No New Contract For Coles Yet?

by Bassett on March 25th, 2008 at 12:55 pm

Hutch notes in the Star-Ledger that he has a take on what he thinks happened between the Jets and Laveranues.

… Coles and the organization were nearing a compromise that would result in the veteran reporting this week. It’s unclear what type of agreement was reached, but it is believed Coles was assured he would receive a long-term deal next season if he remained healthy, or he would be allowed to seek a trade on his own.

One more thing off the check list.  In a worst case scenario, it gives the team one more year to find a suitable replacement as a second option in the passing game and leaves the cap as is.

    Can we re-draft Kenny Shedd?

I believe that we should re-do his contract to a four year deal worth 16 million total with 12 of that guaranteed. This would bring his cap number down from 5 million to 4 million and he will have his long term deal in place. Everybody wins………

Haha, if Coles falls for the “we’ll help you out next season” thing by the Jets’ FO, he must not have read about Pete Kendall last year!

If Coles is guaranteed the same amount of money, how does that make him happy ? I would think he wants more guaranteed money.
