Remember when we said just a few days ago, we’d tell you when the D-Rob trades were off again? Consider yourself notified by Mike Shanahan.
“And whenever a guy fails your physical, it’s never good. He’s a guy that, if you do take, there’s going to be some question marks. Because you take a look at his knees – he still played 80 percent of his games – but you are taking a risk.”
He was playing for an audience in this discussion, but it’ll be a shock if the Jets can really move Robertson at this point. I always think back to the Jets trading Brooks Bollinger to Minnesota, but Bollinger didn’t have bum knees, a first round sense of entitlement and the huge salary and roster bonus looming either …
Hat tip to Kyle from BroncoTalk for making us aware of this …

Oh theres still a good chance he’ll be going some where.
We just won’t be getting a draft pick in exchange. -
At this point D-Rob is worthless as trade bait. If we can’t even get a decent draft pick for him, we might as well keep him for one more season. I’m surprised he’s not worth at least a 4th round pick. Maybe he should go out and get into an old fashioned bar fight. That could help his street cred, and in turn raise his trade value in the eyes of teams like the Bengals and Cowboys.

2004: Fresh off his divorce, Woody Johnson cheaps out and lets half our team go to the Redskins, including our kicker which results in the signing of signing Doug Brien. We use the first round pick we get as compensation from the Redskins plus our own #1 and #4 to draft Dewayne Robertson. Without our #4, we allow the Patriots to draft Dan Klecko who, while no hall of famer, has been a better NFL player than Dewayne Robertson.

I mean 2003.
-
I don’t think I’d call Klecko a better player than Robertson. That’s just foolish.

What a dissapointment. What do we do with him at this point? I can’t imagine he’s going to renegotiate to remain a Jet just to play in the 3-4. Maybe we can move him to offensive line! Just such a waste to have to cut him to free up the cap room. I guess sometimes you just have to suck it up and move forward.
-
At least we got Doug Brien in that deal, he turned out to be clutch when we needed him the most. Oh wait…that son of a…

Hey, he’s no Mike Williams.

Why do the Broncos keep asking about DRob if they don’t want to pull the trigger? That would be like me calling you everyday to ask about buying your home or something else and then saying nah just curious.

Sometimes you have to just cut your losses. Whats the point of keeping a guy around just because he cost you so much in the past, even though he is a worthless turd-bomber?

Take a look at what Tom Rock has to say:

I don’t think D-Rob is coming back at all…
The best we can hope for is a good conditional picks for next year as comp if he performs well this year for whoever we can trade him to.
Of course, any team that doesn’t have a dire need at DT can wait until he’s cut before 6/1 and then sign him, without the baggage of the current contract or giving up picks, to compete for playing time with whoever they have on the roster.
It’s sure looking like another Justin McCareins situation where they didn’t get anything for someone they gave up a high pick a few years ago to get and could have traded a year ago… except this is worse because if we cut him, not only did we lose on the picks, but I think we take a cap hit for the rest of his contract.

This is just Shanahan being a good businessman and trying to convince everyone that Robertson isn’t worth anything. Sounds like some of you are convinced already…
Clearly, the Jets won’t have to cut him. He’ll either stay and renegotiate his deal or someone will take him dirt cheap, which is still better for us than cutting him. Shanny wouldn’t be talking talking about him if he had no interest at all. -
Gotta get another team interested, otherwise Denver’s not going to give up squat if they can sign him as a FA.
-
Where there’s smoke there’s fire!
Shanny is PUTRID at personnel decisions. Right now he’s dealing with a QB (Jay Cutler) who can’t keep his mouth shut, a WR who damaged his arm goofing off, a bad defense, an offensive line that’s offensive.
Shanny is on his last leg here in Denver and can’t afford to make another mistake.
D-ROB fits this D!
Obviously there’s interest but the BS is to lower D-ROB’s contract demands and lower the draft compensation.

If D-Rob has not been blackballed already by now, I agree we won’t likely see him going anywhere soon. The question remains however if he and his agent can swallow their pride and renegotiate his contract to avoid getting cut June 1st.
