In an interview with the NY Post the other day at the owners meetings, Eric Mangini gave Mark Cannizzarro some thoughts on things he’s looking to change this season.
“I’ve got to do a much better job. Part of that is continuing to develop relationships with the players and incorporating more of their insight into the process. We have a lot of really smart veteran players and it’s important to have that good dialogue. Everyone working toward that same goal.”
Last season, the players were the ones pleading the coaches to try the 0-7 plays seen towards the end of the season, where no one lined up with their hand on the turf in pass rush situations. It was effective at times for the Jets creating havoc for offensive blockers.
With his type of players in place throughout the organizationand some trust now with those players and their abilities, it’s good to see Mangini allowing them more input. Let’s hope it translates to the field.

Let’s win a playoff game before we deem ourselves healed.

More team involvement tempered by good coaching judgment. I like that, I like that a lot. Done right it could elevate every level of play.
I was always under the impression that Gang Green was used in a positive light for the JETS Defense.
Weren’t the Eagles Defense also referred to as gang green back in the 80′s? -
i have always thought a chant of “green machine”…the way they chanted “mean machine” in the original version of the longest yard would be a cool way to get the defense motivated.
think about it….if u saw the movie…how cool it sounded when they chanted that.
or hell we can go with mean machine if u want!!!

bass…love the new look you guys came up with…as for me i always liked the GANG GREEN nickname… klecko…green machine will sound to funny at the games…it sounds to much like a movie in the making for it to be real…but it does sound cool though…and maybe mangini’s new approach will make for an all around better team…giving the fact the players will have a voice now…just my thoughts…

I dig the double entendre in ‘Gang Green’. It’s a disease to be a Jet fan. It rots our hope. Our caring brings misery, suffering, exhilaration, near ecstasy, neck snapping disappointment, repeat. But in those fleeting times when they are playing like a team, a gang, a roaring green wave of all the things we ever allowed ourselves to believe they could be, and we fans are on our feet or leaning into the television and caring and cheering again despite all that has come before, well, then we are GANG GREEN. And we are fatal.

yeah…but u cant chant “gang green” at games dakar…
remember the way “mean machine” was chanted in the original longest yard….that sounded tough!!!

klecko…lolol…i’ve seen the movie lots of times and its 1 of my favorites…all i said is it sounds like a movie in the making…so you should spread the word around on your new jets chant…imagine every1 in the crowd cherring on the defense…GREEN MACHINE GREEN MACHINE GREEN MACHINE none stop all at once… that would be so wild and great..not to mention funny as hell…but it should get the players all wired up and thirsty for blood…the more i think about it i love it more and more…after a good stop on defense we go back to the J-E-T-S jets jets jets chant…sounds great…spread the word…and maybe the fans wont get yelled at by some1 like me to get off there asess and cheer their team on…anyway, silly thinking but they are just my thoughts…lol…

YES dakar…thank you. but i would still say mean machine….but either way…picture us needing a big stop on defense….and the crowd from a relativly quiet level….slowly builds up the “mean machine” chant….i wouldnt even say GREEN machine….
but either way….with how loud we get with j-e-t-s…. we can get the place more nuts with just a chant for the D. and lets face it…we are gonna hopefully have a kick ass imtimidating defense this year. lets see how powerful this website is…and as it gets closer to the start of the season….we gotta get it circulated!!
just my thoughts….=)

WE NEED something that is OURS!!! we will still share a freakin stadium next year that isnt ours…and even when we move to the new one…it still wont feel like a true home unless the $#%% fans make it an intimidating place to play.

I think gang green sounds bad ass, it makes it sound like our defense is sick.

Loving the new look!!! However, I have to tell I am surprised that you of all people would use that “gang green” moniker. This label for the Jets has to be ended. Gang Green was the name given to the Jets, way back when they were so bad they were negatively referred to as having Gangrene. Gangrene (wikipedia definition) is a complication of necrosis (i.e., cell death) characterized by the decay of body tissues, which become black and malodorous. It is a terrible reference to the team, organization and fan base. If anything, I think you and all of us that love this blog would petition to end this horendous nickname. Your thoughts?
