The Thursday Top 10: Ch-Ch-Changes

Okay, I had to take a quick detour from our normal pure Jets-related coverage to have a little fun in this groundbreaking week here at TJB. I promise to be back on the green-and-white path next week.

As many of you have heard, Bassett has taken our beloved little blog here (currently the #81-ranked most influential sports blog according to Wikio — thanks to metsblog.com for the tip) to the next level, joining forces with the official TV home of the Jets, SportsNet New York (or SNY to those of you who hate to spell.) It’s a great achievement for Bassett (and Bent), and testament to their hard work and devotion to this site. I, for one, welcome our new media overlords … er, I mean, partners.

But just because a few more people may have heard of SNY (possibly), doesn’t mean that they should be the dominant partner in this endeavor. We should get to call a few shots. As a matter of fact, here are

The Top 10 Changes We’d Like To See As a Result of TJB’s New Partnership With SNY

10. “TJB Nation,” a weekly show dedicated to what’s happening on the blog, hosted by D. Rose and Bent (via satellite), with site news and stories, highlights and lowlights, as well as a little segment called “Flight Crew Hot Tub Extravaganza.”

9. “Loud Posts,” a weekly post featuring lively debate between two avid posters, like sackdance99 vs. seanmac, Nikolas vs. sec108, etc. And of course, the ultimate grudge match: Bent vs. RAJ.

8. “Jetsblog Game Day” where Bassett gets a full Sunday countdown-to-kickoff studio show, complete with film analysis, a detailed look at keys to the game, and an in-studio analyst, preferrably Nuu Faaola.

7. More cowbell.

6. “TJB Kids Adventures” – An animated program featuring young Bassett and Bent, their plucky sidekick Suzy (who wants to be a Flight Crew member), and Marlon, their magical time-traveling mynah bird, who leads them into wacky forays in Jets history — like the time they go back to November 17, 1968 to watch the end of the Raiders-Jets game and Marlon accidentally throws the switch in the control truck that puts Heidi on the air, or when they go ahead to February 5, 2028 to witness the Jets winning their unprecedented 4th straight Super Bowl under legendary head coach Chad Pennington.

5. A weekly NFL insider column from Greg Buttle called “Buttle’s Scuttle.” (Because I like the name, that’s why.)

4. How about some actual historical Jets programming on SNY? Seriously for a second — why is there no “Our Favorite Jets”-type biography shows or “Jets Classics” or NFL Films-produced Jets programming on the TV home of the Jets? This team has been in the NFL for over 40 years, playing upward of 700 games — obviously there’s a vast depth of material from which to choose. Are you telling me no one can even get their hands on a rerun of “The Joe Namath Show“? Please.

3. AFLAC to sponsor Harlan Lachman’s “Kewpie Doll of the Day.”

2. A behind-the-scenes documentary-style look at TJB, including a field trip to England to see Bent watching Jets games at 3 a.m. on his laptop in a London pub, and a live webcam set up at Bassett’s computer so we can see him every morning at 5 a.m. reading headlines and cursing out Cimini.

1. Bassett come over from the Dark Side, embrace the New York Mets and grow a proper noteworthy mustache like Keith Hernandez.

(Note: That’s actually Keith’s mustache — circa 1982 — digitally grafted onto Bassett’s face, and it looks fine if I do say so myself. And I do.)

  1. Number 6 is awesome. I’d watch it. Yay 2028 and Coach Chad.

  2. Sweet stache, maybe for the the beginning of the 2008 season we should all grow a Namath stache and see if it actually brings us good look at the beginning of a season. We obiviously need it!

  3. that is a nice stache – makes him look like a Mario Bros. character

    boing!

  4. I just curse out nationals like Peter King these days … I’ve gone big time.

  5. I’m ready to do my part for #9, bring it on! Lets not have censorship either, I mean this IS cable.

  6. Just as a note, being 81, and who knows how that is determined, but out of zillions of blogs that is pretty huge.

Let’s work on making it higher and then we can RULE THE WORLD…or hopefully win a championship as the other option.

  7. I miss RAJ. I’m sure we’ll see him a few days after the draft…if you’re lurking, Bob, chime in!

Nice moustache (sic). You look like Dan Dierdorf! I’d be all for every one of us growing one as per 18&1’s idea, but I don’t think I am physically capable!

It would have to be a preseason game at 3am…

    Great post, rinky.

  8. We could have been #80 but we dropped a place in honour of McCareins being cut (pun very much intended).

  9. R, you sly dog, thanks for echoing my call for more cowbell!

  10. For #5, how about ScuttleButt(le)?

  11. By the way, you make a very good point with #4. There’s plenty of retro Mets stuff on SNY — why no Gang Green? YES airs that Yankeeography show ad naseum.

What, does the NFL own the rights to the Rusty Guilbeau story? That’s DVR-worthy material!

  12. I’d have to bow out of no. 9 because I’d be playing Ross Perot to seanmac’s Al Gore, but if Brooklyn Decker were the moderator; I’d reconsider.

I’m all for more Jets history. How About “Forgotten Draft Blunders: The Carl Barzilauskas Story.”

  13. You put way too much thought into #4. And if you didn’t, now thats really scary.

And the Site is looking SWEEEET!

For some reason I really like the next and previous links you added to the bottom. Gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling.
What can I say, I’m easy to please. Don’t even think about commenting R in CT!

  14. I would dominate a TV show. Seriously, I have too much personality. I will be selling it by the lb.

  15. loved the #6…lolol…very funny…looking foward to reading the debates between sack and seanmac and others…and # 4 is a cant wait to see addition that should have been done long ago…just my thoughts…

  16. Larry Grantham was a linebacker. Greg Buttle was a cheerleader – pointing out tackles to team mates rather than head into the tackle himself. Lets get Grantam rather than Buttle for #6. Grantham’s anthum!

  17. can this new partnership with sny put tjb in a position to have an extensive game film breakdown post? I’m thinking something similar to what ron jawarski does on NFL matchup on espn, but tailored specifically to the jets.
