Team Jets to New Facility Ahead of Schedule

by Bassett on April 4th, 2008 at 8:04 am

florham.jpgThe Jets announced yesterday that they will be moving their training facility from Hofstra to Florham Park during the course of this season, a full year ahead of schedule.

“We’re moving in after training camp but a specific time has not been scheduled yet.” Bruce Speight, the director media relations said on Thursday.

I should have known something was up when I received this email last month, and then was going to write about it, but got sidtracked. This from Doug in Long Valley.

A friend of mine is in real-estate (isn’t everyone), a guy in his office was showing houses to [Kellen Clemens] here in NJ. I’m 23 miles from the front door of the new headquarters and I can hardly wait for them to get here, but it’s interesting that guys are looking for houses already … this will be the best thing for the Jets and why this will be pivotal in their ability to attract and retain talent.

So KC and the Sunshine Band were already looking for houses? I chalked it up to an eager guy from Oregon, but clearly this was more serious than we suggested. There’s no firm dates yet, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Professional athletes are creatures of habit once the season begins, so my hope is that this doesn’t interfere with those during the middle of the season. Either way, it’s clear they are eager to get into that new facility!

Well they probably won’t have any problem finding a place to live with this mortgage mess going on.

    Damn Leon Hess.

It would be great if the Jets/Giants preseason game was played at Shea

My fellow Jet fans, a sad day is looming. Woody Johnson is now getting even with NY for not getting his Westside Stadium. Moving the Jets off of LI, where 75% of his fan base is only part of the retribution. Teaming with the Giants to play in NJ is another part and the final piece will be to re-name the team as the NEW JERSEY JETS!

Yea, this is crap. I loved the 15 minute drive to Hofstra to go see training camp. I mean…Jersey? Come one.

Hey at least he didn’t move the team to Baltimore or LA.

I realize that many fellow Jet lovers are going to lament when the team moves to NJ but it will be the best thing for the franchise. Kevin Mawae said 3 years ago “if you’re going to commit to playing in NJ move the team there”. Here are my reasons we will be able to attract and retain talent based on quality of life:
1-Not every player makes $5M a year in guarantees and can afford Long Island housing, taxes and private schools. Forget about the coaches who are making far less.
2-You aren’t land locked in western NJ. Players can live on a lake, farm, golf course, ski slope, down town… it’s all within 30-45 minutes of the facility.
3-The towns that surround Florham Park have the best schools in the state, probably the country. Free Public schools, where the Giant players send their kids to them without hesitation.
4-Morrsitown hospital is 5 minutes away it is the best in northern NJ. Former Jet O-linemen #79 Dave Szott (sp??) moved to Morristown because of his special needs child and the great schools and hospital care he could get here. He slept in Mawae’s basement during the week on LI to attend practice.
5-The wives will love the shopping, access to NY, big beautiful homes. Western NJ living is wonderful.
6-And the new facility will be world class. Training rooms, meeting rooms, game rooms, and all the things you need to attract some one who is looking at the Jets. Imagine our history if we had been able to attract Reggie White, instead he went to Green Bay.
7-For the media and guests, hotels, restaurants…
8-Morristown air port is a few miles away.
OK, enough, looking forward to seeing you in our neck of the woods.

i cant wait!!!!!! i live in jersey and i am sorry LI fans u have had the easy ride to training camp long enuff now its my turn!!!!

but on a real note i feel bad for u guys i am really a 5 minute ride from giant stadium….so i shouldnt complain… but jersey is nice and its a new facility to attract new players…and not for nothing nothin against hofstra but they were playing at a college….some players mite not like that….so atleast now we will have our own official facilities…..

Ramble hit it. Nothing will be in NY. And Ed L, if all is fair, do we get the stadium by us now instead of having a 2 hour drive in traffic? Pissed off on LI.

  10. avatar ED says:

yes…we should play a pre-season game at Shea. Never happen, though.

No offense to our Jersy fans, I agree with what some of you are saying about attracting talent, but this feels like a dagger in the heart.
They have to do something to maintain the NY connections, and lets not forget about our fan base in Conneticut.
I still don’t understand why they didn’t build the stadium in Queens, something near Shea would have been ideal.
I really hope ramble is wrong about changing the name to the New Jersey Jets. If that happens, I hope the league forces Woody to sell the team or NY gets approved for a new franchise.
