‘Things Going on’ for Dewayne Robertson?

by Bassett on April 5th, 2008 at 10:39 am

Rich Cimini has some interesting bits of information to wrap up the owners meeting in Florida. From some public comments of Sean Payton on Jon Vilma to the QB situation to the status of Dewayne Robertson:

Eric Mangini spoke of NT Dewayne Robertson in the past tense: “Dewayne did a lot of good things for us at nose tackle.” Asked if a trade is imminent, Mangini said, “I wouldn’t say imminent, but there are things going on.”

Hmm … here’s to hoping that “Denver’s fleeting interest” does not equal “things.”

Maybe DRob plus our #1 to raiders for their #1.

it’s an interesting thought … but it seems that d-rob isn’t worth a washing machine in terms of trades these days. the difference in points is a middle third rounder … is d-rob with a middle third?

The offer from the trade that fell apart was worth a middle third. I’m assuming we’ll end up with less than that, if anything.

I don’t see much difference between 4 and 6, so would personally prefer to sit tight rather than worsening our cap position. I still think D-Rob will probably be released or restructured. Maybe “things” = negotiations with his agent.

If the Raiders were interested, it would be interesting to see him replace Sapp, but I’d rather they just gave us a pick, even if it was only a 5th rounder.

Hmm…the fact that Mangini is usually very tight lipped about these things makes me think that he might be trying to generate some interest by saying there’s interest.

Mangini’s QB comments were an eye opener. It certainly sounds like Matt Ryan is a real possibility. Maybe a smoke screen, but interesting nonetheless. The trades and moves in FA showed that they decided they needed to move agressively to transform the team. Maybe that philosophy extends farther than we originally thought.

It seems clear that NE will try to trade out of #7 so its incumbent upon Mangini to make other GMs think he might take anyone (Ryan, McFadden, Ellis, whomever) ahead of the NE pick. Hopefully, someone bites and feels the need to get in front of NE. For the Jets and NE it seems that the same guy who goes at #5/6 could go at #9/10 (ie, Rivers, Harvey, Jenkins, McKelvin, etc).

It would be sweet to get a guy at #9/10 for a bit less in guaranteed money and net a third round pick for the trouble.

it’s not just NE. it might be jumping ahead whoever might move into 7. this assumes multiple teams are on 1 or 2 players. but if there’s a guy you want, why pay up and take risk moving into 7, just to leave the door open to have someone jump ahead of you. just move into 6 and cut ‘em off at the pass (always wanted to do that).
