Would the Jets Trade Up?
Bill Williamson of ESPN notes some head coaches that might be helped in their job by the Draft and of course, Mangini makes the list.
There is a gem awaiting Mangini that could help him stay in New York for the next several years: Darren McFadden. The Jets are holding their breath, hoping the best running back in the draft is available at No. 6. Mangini’s biggest worry has to be Oakland at No. 4 and Kansas City at No. 5. If McFadden slips past those two teams, the Jets will get their guy. Don’t be surprised if the Jets press the matter and try to swing a deal up to No. 4 with Oakland to get the game-changing back.
Without a third rounder, unless Robertson is involved and the folks in Oakland think he’s worth the points difference (mid third), I don’t see how the Jets would move up two spots.

Where the hell is the base for what this guy’s saying? Considering how diligent the Jets have been about filling needs, I highly doubt they feel like they HAVE to have McFadden. I call BS.
It’s okay to draft McFadden at six because he would be the best player on the board at that point, but it would be inexcusable to trade up for him. Running backs are arguably the worst bang for the buck of any viable position at the top of the draft; you can’t give away picks for the purpose of trading for one.
Chris Long? Now that would be a different matter.
I agree with seanmac, if the phins screw up with CLong, then i dont mind moving 4 spots up for him. We can always include players in the deal other than draft picks if need be.
If chris long was avail at #4, i would be shrieking like a little girl.
there was word today, that the phins are taking a long hard look at Quentin Groves and local product Taveres Gooden.

Having taken carrker last year, I could see chris long getting past the rams if they couldnt’ trade out … the falcons is the most troubling organization as I think they would jump on Chris Long. esp. with the dmitroff –> pats –> bill b –> al groh ties …
Agree with everyone.
More baseless speculation, but if it was true, Long is the only guy I’d move up for.
FWIW the previous rumor was Kenyon Coleman + 6 = 4, but it’s senseless to trade a guy one year into a deal (as discussed in the BT thread) and as far as I can determine, this was totally baseless too…
I wouldn’t move up for Long, I’d be fine with McKlevin or McFadden, both would assist us but I wouldn’t move up for McFadden, I think people are really underrating the benefits of teaming up mcklevin with revis and rhodes
This guys is a clown for stating the obvious– A player must slip by #4 and #5 to get to six.
The fact the mentioned the Cheifs taking McFadden is crazy by itself.
O please let us pass on McFadden, we dont need him and i’d rather get Resard Mendenhall. My biggest hope prospect for the Jets to draft is Chris Long, he is everything a coach wants out of a football player. Otherwise it’s between a CB, i liek Vernon Gholston but i’d rather have Long then him and if we can’t Chris then we should get a CB like Leodis McKelvin or Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, or trade down and get another highly rated CB.
All this talk about moving up is so frustrating when you consider the fact that we should have the 3rd overall pick in this draft.. BUT NO… the Jets like to make you burn in rage, so they beat Kansas City in OT on the last game of the season, thus dropping us back to the 6th pick overall.
The life of a jet fan: We lose when we must win, and we win when we must lose!!!!
Actually, I like the scenario where Rams pass C Long. The falcons are being run by a guy rite out of new england. He’d be begging to trade down. If C long is available at 3 (now im dreaming) i wont mind giving more than wht the chart says to jump up 3 spots.
i wouldn’t move up for any player in this years draft…i just dont think any1 of them is worth draft picks and more money than whats gonna be there at 6…and i like the fact we have the 36th pick in the 2nd…so,to give up our 36th pick to move up 2 spots doesn’t sit to well wth me…i rather keep still at 6 or if possible trade down if we dont like what fell to us…just my thoughts…
Wouldn’t mind giving up more than the charts say to move up 3 spots — are you high? Are the Jets sooo good that one player will put them over the top? Jets need to move down 4-8 spots and add 1 or 2 picks, if possible… deep draft at several positions, without much separation btw best and 4th best at a given position… Chris Long should be very good, but he’s not a franchise quarterback, right? He’s too small to play DE in 3-4 in the NFL, and has not yet played OLB.
inexcusable Seanmac ??
This is just rumors created by bored writers. The jets arent trading up to get McFadden. If he falls to them at 6 they will take him and like Seanmac said that would be a great value pick. But other than that, they wont jump up 2-3 spots to land him.
I have a question for those who suggest the jets should draft Rashard mendenhall, or even any RB other than DMC for that matter…
if you think the jets dont need a RB bad enough to get McFadden, then whats the sense of drafting a rb such as mendenhall. We already have Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, the only reason DMC is an option is because he has gamebreaker abilities that the Jets offense lacks. The jets wont draft him just because hes a good RB, they would draft him because hes a play maker and a huge offensive weapon. Mendenhall isnt half the offensive threat that McFadden is, and while I do believe Mendenhall will be a very good pro, theres no sense using a first round pick on a running back that we dont really need.
All the moves in FA allow us to be flexible with the pick at #6. That should mean we wait and let the draft come to us, take the BPA, not move up. The only way we draft a RB is if he is the BPA, and unless we trade down, that won’t be Mendenhall. BTW – If you like him, you must love Pierre Thomas (now in NO), because he couldn’t beat him out for a starting spot in college, and essentially has one year of experience. That doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t make a good pro, but it does sound way too risky for a high pick.
As for whining about beating KC and losing a few draft spots – let’s get real. I’d be much more concerned about a team with so little character that they are folding their tent late in the season than what may or may not happen in the draft.
If the Jets are going to trade up, it would be for Chris Long. The more likely scenario for them is trading down.
Having DRob will determine if we pick a DT in the first, as for Long I cant see the Tuna passing up on the only player aside from the freak VG that is currently worth the money in slot one but then again who would have thought he would give 11 pink slips in one day, I think Darren will fall to us that is if we don’t trade down- Trading up would be too costly for the future cap “again- DRob” and would cause a disgruntled locker room from the vets that want extensions- we can hope for Long or the Gholston at 6 Darren would be a great addition but the RB stable is getting big and expensive, the other safe bet is a DB in the first and a OLB/ILB in the second- Penns Connor would be great if still on the board
Can anyone tell my why C. Long is so desireable? Yes, he played the 3-4 in college. yes, daddy’s a Hall of famer. But he’s too small to man the 3-4 DE spot in the pro’s. I love the kid’s skills and drive, however, wouldn’t he be a project as a linebacker, just like Gholston (not sold on him either)?
I am lazy so I will post this comment that I made in another thread…
“Absolutely I can see him being a difference maker and a star if he stays healthy.
Technically, he is superb in the trenches. Good hand fighting and pass rush moves, coupled with a relentless motor and strength to hold his ground. It’s not all about size. As noted he could contribute in a variety of positions.
I also agree with the comments that his athleticism isn’t that far off Gholston’s (his short shuttle time was better, suggesting he may be more agile and therefore better suited to certain OLB requirements than VG) … “
I am glad that the Jets beat KC in the final game of the season. The Jets will get an elite player at 6 without paying a top 5 salary.
10yardbomb, Chris Long is an absolute beast and would be an absolute stud as a DE/LB tweener in the 3-4. He also has the speed to play and has a non stop motor. Whoever gets this kid should be thrilled to have him. Not to mention his dad is a HOFer.
