10yardbomb, Chris Long is an absolute beast and would be an absolute stud as a DE/LB tweener in the 3-4. He also has the speed to play and has a non stop motor. Whoever gets this kid should be thrilled to have him. Not to mention his dad is a HOFer.

I am glad that the Jets beat KC in the final game of the season. The Jets will get an elite player at 6 without paying a top 5 salary.

I am lazy so I will post this comment that I made in another thread...

"Absolutely I can see him being a difference maker and a star if he stays healthy.

Technically, he is superb in the trenches. Good hand fighting and pass rush moves, coupled with a relentless motor and strength to hold his ground. It’s not all about size. As noted he could contribute in a variety of positions.

I also agree with the comments that his athleticism isn’t that far off Gholston’s (his short shuttle time was better, suggesting he may be more agile and therefore better suited to certain OLB requirements than VG) ... "

Can anyone tell my why C. Long is so desireable? Yes, he played the 3-4 in college. yes, daddy's a Hall of famer. But he's too small to man the 3-4 DE spot in the pro's. I love the kid's skills and drive, however, wouldn't he be a project as a linebacker, just like Gholston (not sold on him either)?

Having DRob will determine if we pick a DT in the first, as for Long I cant see the Tuna passing up on the only player aside from the freak VG that is currently worth the money in slot one but then again who would have thought he would give 11 pink slips in one day, I think Darren will fall to us that is if we don't trade down- Trading up would be too costly for the future cap "again- DRob" and would cause a disgruntled locker room from the vets that want extensions- we can hope for Long or the Gholston at 6 Darren would be a great addition but the RB stable is getting big and expensive, the other safe bet is a DB in the first and a OLB/ILB in the second- Penns Connor would be great if still on the board

If the Jets are going to trade up, it would be for Chris Long. The more likely scenario for them is trading down.

All the moves in FA allow us to be flexible with the pick at #6. That should mean we wait and let the draft come to us, take the BPA, not move up. The only way we draft a RB is if he is the BPA, and unless we trade down, that won't be Mendenhall. BTW - If you like him, you must love Pierre Thomas (now in NO), because he couldn't beat him out for a starting spot in college, and essentially has one year of experience. That doesn't necessarily mean he won't make a good pro, but it does sound way too risky for a high pick.

As for whining about beating KC and losing a few draft spots - let's get real. I'd be much more concerned about a team with so little character that they are folding their tent late in the season than what may or may not happen in the draft.

This is just rumors created by bored writers. The jets arent trading up to get McFadden. If he falls to them at 6 they will take him and like Seanmac said that would be a great value pick. But other than that, they wont jump up 2-3 spots to land him.

I have a question for those who suggest the jets should draft Rashard mendenhall, or even any RB other than DMC for that matter...

if you think the jets dont need a RB bad enough to get McFadden, then whats the sense of drafting a rb such as mendenhall. We already have Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, the only reason DMC is an option is because he has gamebreaker abilities that the Jets offense lacks. The jets wont draft him just because hes a good RB, they would draft him because hes a play maker and a huge offensive weapon. Mendenhall isnt half the offensive threat that McFadden is, and while I do believe Mendenhall will be a very good pro, theres no sense using a first round pick on a running back that we dont really need.

Wouldn't mind giving up more than the charts say to move up 3 spots -- are you high? Are the Jets sooo good that one player will put them over the top? Jets need to move down 4-8 spots and add 1 or 2 picks, if possible... deep draft at several positions, without much separation btw best and 4th best at a given position... Chris Long should be very good, but he's not a franchise quarterback, right? He's too small to play DE in 3-4 in the NFL, and has not yet played OLB.
