Don't believe the hype. Polamalu is real good, but not as great as they make him out to be. When the hype was at its peak, he used to fly about making plays but could also be a bit reckless. Over the last few years he has reigned in his discipline, but now this means he makes fewer impact plays. He is probably better now, although he stands out less on the highlight reels.

i love rhodes, but he's never been as good or as consistant as palamalu was in his rookie year, or their superbowl season.

I dont watch the steelers enough to say who's better right now, but palamalu was all over the field during their superbowl run. both are probowlers in my eyes tho.

Contumelious...your figures are pretty good, but you haven't taken into account that 20 percent of Rhodes' signing bonus will go against this year's cap. I don't believe they've announced it yet, but I assume it will be most of the 20m guaranteed. Therefore that's another 4m or close to it on this year's cap. Cutting/trading Robertson is likely, which will leave them with about 3-4m spare after the rookies are paid. Pennington too is a possibility (I doubt it personally), but I don't think the saving is 4m anyway, I make it 1.8m.

Losing Barrett could save us 3m, I believe, so that's a possibility.

The Jets don't pay based on Pro-Bowl appearances. As we've seen in the past couple years, guys can get voted in on reputation. Who would you want as a safety right now, Rhodes or John Lynch.

Now all the Jets key players are locked up through the 2011 season or have team options in 2010. Important because of the likely uncapped season.

As for this year, the Jets right now have about 5-million to spend. With the trades of D-Rob (8-mil) and Pennington (4-mil) they'll have about 17 for rookies and free agents. Should be plenty. And yeah, the Rhodes deal may pave the way for Chad to be dealt to save money.

The fact Rhodes missed the last two pro bowls probably helps us because it could have made the deal more expensive.

I don't care if any of our players ever make the pro bowl, I want a championship this year. These players better go out and get it done this year. They have been set up to win. Can someone please explain to me what kind of cap space we have now. We have to be in the red, I think we are spending a little too much money. I think the front office knows that all of these contracts will be voided after the 2010 season during the lockout.

Pro Bowl votes are hard to come by when you team isn't featured in any of the years games. Maybe the Rhodes signing and the names of our acquisitions will get us more this year.

this is not a fuve year extension but rather a tear-up of the old contract and in reality only extends him 4 years beyond the original
