WR Malcolm Kelly Does Damage Control .. Kinda

Another day, and more people are scratching their head at the continually devolving situation with WR Malcolm Kelly. A month ago, the buzz around the league was that Malcolm Kelly could be the first receiver off the board. After a long wait and high expectations from draftniks, Kelly’s workout for scouts last week didn’t go well with some bad 40 yard dash times. At the event, Kelly threw the Oklahoma strength & conditioning staff under the bus, which wasn’t looked on too favorably by media and scouts.

Since then, Malcolm has gone on a PR campaign, according to the ESPN.com.

Oklahoma receiver Malcolm Kelly apparently is doing some damage control after his slow 40 time in the on-campus workout this week. Kelly went on a Tyler, Texas, radio show to apologize for his criticism of the workout logistics and to report that he will workout on Sunday in Atlanta in a private session. No scouts allowed. It will be videotaped and sent to all 32 NFL teams.

Huh? I think half of the hubbub about all this is some overanalyzation, Kelly still has potential, but all the concealment around this just seems odd … will the video be taped end to end without cuts? Could Kelly be running dashes all day long to get the two that are the right time and then they edit down onto the video? There were questions before, and now there’s even more than before the apology. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kelly out of the first round completely at this point moving forward.

So how does this apply to the Jets? There could likely be one less tall WR sitting at #36 since that player has already been taken.
