Matt Ryan Visited Jets Last Week

Matt Ryan was on NFL Path to the Draft on Friday, and he spoke about his visit (what? no Hammerstein Ballroom?) earlier this week with the Jets.  The Jets sent up a portion of their playbook, and asked Ryan to study up.

… on his studying …

“[The Jets] sent up the playbook two days before the workout and I studied as much as I could and tried to learn everything in there.  So that I could talk when we finally sat down and went over what they had in that playbook and be sharp.  I thought I did a pretty good job, I was going through the formations and the route tree and thought I retained most of the information pretty well.”

… on if it’s fun to get in front of chalkboard …

“I think so, just learning more about the game in that sense is a lot of fun but at the same time I’m no different than anybody else.  I was a little nervous getting up there too.  It’s kind of like taking a test, you never know if you’re fully prepared, luckily I felt really good up on the board and I thought I knew the offense pretty well.”

  1. THE JETS CANNOT DRAFT MATT RYAN HES ANOTHER BUST IF MCD OR GHOLSTON IS THERE AT 6 THEY CANNOT TAKE THIS OVERRATED ACC QB HE IS DEFINITELY NOT A BETTER PROSPECT THAN CLEMENS GHOLSTON N MCFADDEN CAN CHANGE A TEAM THIS GUY IS NOT ON THEIR LEVEL

  2. nyj4clong – your capslock is on.

i think ryan is overrated too (and will be tremendously disappointed if the jets take him), but let’s be fair – the guy is a better prospect coming out of college than clemens was. it’s not even close.

  3. Can you say “smokescreen?”

  4. It’s not that bad of a pick or it is a good smoke screen. The only move at this point that would bother me is drafting Doresy or Ellis and forcing them into the 3-4.

  5. The Jets have done well for themselves this year. This is the best free agent crop in quite a long time. The Jets have been able to set themselves up to pick the best player available. If that is Ryan, so be it. We haven’t had a franchise QB in way too long.

  6. Nobody is making Ryan out to be the next Peyton Manning. We shouldn’t forget that. A lot of busts are cracked up to be the real deal and just aren’t…All of these analysts are just considering Ryan to be a good quarterback with upside (and he is a better prospect out of college then Kellen btw).

I doubt the Jets will grab Ryan if he is still there but if Mangini and Tannenbaum really feel like he’s the best player available and want to pick him I’m OK with that. He could add solid depth to our QB, he could be a bust, he could be trade bait for Baltimore. Who knows, all Im saying is to have faith my fellow Jets fans.

  7. I’d be surprised if we went with Ryan. I’m going to hold judgement on this until after the draft. If we do end up taking Ryan I’ll have some questions. Mostly, this would tell me that the coaching staff has seen something in kellen they don’t like. It’s easy for us to say, “we have kellen and chad, we don’t need a qb.” I too feel this way and feel that we’re better off drafting elsewhere. The fact is, I’m not part of the Jets organization and they know better than I do.

I’m still doing the chris long dance. Don’t think we’ll get him either, but that would be a VERY happy saturday for me.
