Daily Links: Draft Rumor Quick Hits
Posted on April 26th, 2008 by Bassett
Here’s some quick hits this morning as I’m catching up from a hectic day yesterday …
- Does Chiefs new OC Chan ‘the man’ Gailey have any say in the Chiefs taking Ryan at five?
- James Walker thinks that Ryan would be best at the latest at No. 8.
- Are the Chiefs going to move back and allow the Pats to take Gholston at No. 5? Be afraid!!
- Could the Robertson trade be a giveaway?

I will self-immolate if the Pats leapfrog us for the Gholst.
Two things. One, the only reason the Herm won’t harm us by trading down to the Pats is if Carl Peterson has a guy he wants more than an extra three (unlikely but possible). In this scenario, I hope Ryan is still on the board at 6 so we can trade him to the Ravens and leave KC without the QB they covet and pick up our own extra pick (I would demand a 2nd and offer it to Carolina too to ensure I get it). In this crap shoot of a draft, other than Chris Long, we could do better with a CB, WR than Gholston.
Secondly, if this report of the DRobb trade is correct, Tangini panicked and made a terrible move. Stupid too. DRobb was as good or better than our other DE (Coleman and Ellis) at DE even though he was a tackle and got most of his reps there. I wanted a conditional ‘09 pick with upside. But the pick should be conditional on performance stats not coaching stats (and the coaches determine who plays and rests). On a rotation team, 65% of the plays is just too many. Tackles, sacks, hurries, and assists would have been better. F DRobb, his agent and Denver. Pay over the $3 mil and wait. We could just as soon have cut him the last day of training camp.

it is completely out of character for the pats to trade up. i smell smoke.
remember, it was the pats making noises over drobertson that helped prompt the jets to jump for 4 for him. they may be going back to the well.
If Carl and Herm were smart men, they could trade back with the Jets, if the Jets are hot on Gholston, and then double dip with Carolina or Baltimore. That would be some incredible maneuvering, and would be totally out of character for that group.
As for DRobb. Shanny’s going to have a tough time docking DRob’s playing time if he’s having a good year (I imagine he will) and they’re making a playoff push. Remember he’s being brought in because they’ve had a hard time staying healthy on the D-Line. Besides which, a pick for DRob is found money at this point. The cap savings were the most important part of this deal.
i’m with mpg on drob.
65% is starters time. that number didnt come about by accident.
and no coach sits a guy who can help them win that week. they are hard wired that way. win.
plus something like that doesnt go over big in the locker room. dont sweat it. if drob is good they get a decent pick. if he isnt, they moved the money and a competitor for a wildcard didnt benefit.
