With rookie minicamp underway, here’s five observations from the beat writers there … as they’ve been writing on their blogs …
Go With Gholston — Vernon has been seeing time on the edge, dropping into pass protection on drills. The Jets are wanting to work with him to teach him as much as the can, I’m guessing in the course of the next few months. The Jets coaching staff might have their work cut out with Gholston, but he’s a willing student and has all the potential to do what they want him to do.
Woodhead Turning Heads — Chadron State’s Danny Woodhead might be small at 5-7 (like that’s how tall my wife is), but people like the way he’s moving, and can cut. For him to make the team it would have to be with some work on punts or kicks, so expect the team to watch what he can do there, as well as in pass protection. Those two elements could be key to his staying with the team. Mangini referenced Leon’s height (who was an MVP in 2007) when talking about Woodhead.
Put into Perspective — Jehuu Caulcrick, who grew up in Liberia puts football into a whole new perspective when it comes to hardship. Read about it here. After tearing up Michigan State’s opponents for 21 TDs as a senior, it’s hard not to root for this goal line monster.
Special Teams for Special Players — Mangini is making even his first round draft picks play special teams at camp. You have to love the “Beamer Ball” perspective!
Harris Taking On Leadership — David Harris didn’t have to be there, but he was there on Friday, stopping in to keep an eye on the rookies after he had his own workout. He’s only a second year player, but it’s clear he’s heavily invested in this team and wants to see the rookies and the progress the team will make.

How are the undrafted CB and DB looking?

I’m trading in my Vilma jersey for a David Harris – Enough said!

I really hope Woodhead makes the team. I saw him on tv during the draft and had to do a quick head count and see if any of my friends were missing! It should be a definite story to follow, though. I like the site. Come over and check out my Bears blog, sometime.

We are in trouble as Jet fans.
Parcells is a force at the Dolphin mini camp.
He is acting like a coach.
This sucks. I thought he was going to stay in the front office.
I was wrong.
The Jets better produce quickly or the Tuna will bypass us …. mark my words.

David Harris is a pro-bowler in the making seriously a vocal leader his presence is exactly what the Jets are about
