Jets Officially Sign McMackin, Waive Two Others

by Mack Rosenberg on May 4th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

The Jets have made official their signing of Hofstra offensive lineman Shawn McMackin, one of the UDFAs who was present at the Jets minicamp for rookies this weekend. They also waived two other players of the same status, center Brett Byford from Nebraska, and Al Phillips, a cornerback from Wagner. Erik Boland notes that the Jets have 79 players signed to the roster, while each team is allowed 80. So you can basically look at the current Jets roster and make an accurate judgment on the depth at each position because the team is just about where they can be in terms of roster spots.

I would think that at least 4 or 5 players wil come and go between now and the opening of training camp.

One of them will be Chris Baker unless he shuts up and reports.

No, I don’t think it will play out that way. He’ll report or be fined and not paid! He’ll cave before that!

I was talking to Shawn McMackin outside of a bar he worked for/bounced at, (the guy is huge, obviously bouncing or pro football are his 2 career paths) he told me he did 42 reps of 225 and ran a 4.78 . I don’t know how much of this is true, but straight from the mouth of our new practice squad OL. good luck to this 300 lbs monster out of St. Joe Regional HS, Montvale NJ
