Jets Add RB/FB Musa Smith
John Clayton of ESPN.com has learned that the Jets have signed Musa Smith, former Ravens FB/RB, who has one start to his credit.
Need more proof that the team is trying to stack the deck in terms of their power running game? Smith isn’t a typically sized running back at 6-0 232, so he can be flexible between the fullback and running back position, but is still labeled as a tweener who doesn’t play up to his potential.
The Jets had looked at Smith at the same time while they courted Jesse Chatman this offseason and my thought is that at a minimum this addresses the backup role behind Tony Richardson, with some ability to flex him into a short yardage player. If you were to ask me who he’s competing for a spot against, I wouldn’t say Jesse Chatman, but rather UDFA backs like Jehuu Caulcrick & Justin Valentine. Based on some of the scouting reports I’ve read on Smith, he might not be the better option of the three of those guys.
Our thanks to Patrick and Ken for the tip!

Agreed. I fell Smith will be a roster cut before the season starts.
It would be nice to have another FB though. Way off topic but Canseco challenged any celeberty to box him. I was hoping Gastineau would have steped up :(
kimbo slice will put him and his fat mouth in the hospital!
Unrelated – did anyone catch the article on ESPN about the Broncos signing Michael Pittman? At the bottom, it says DRob missed OTAs (knee). ha.
I think Robertson was held out deliberately because they are looking after his knees. Besides, we should be rooting for him to play as much as possible because then we might get a decent pick back.
Back on topic: Musa Smith’s a pretty good special teamer if I’m not mistaken.
The last Georia alum to rush for the Jets was non other then the (late), great Quincy Carter. Let’s hope that Muse can do better than that.
Sounds like we signed a wedge buster for special teams
Danny Ware wept when he read Axel’s post.
He sure did, but if you want to be on the list of “the one´s who have rushed for the jets” you better not get cut in pre season.
Our running back stable is busting at the seem, Smith is a good special teams guy and a decent ball specialist RB/FB and blocker which makes him a utility player, very marketable and useful, but enough is enough, our RB’s corpse is fine.
Agreed, Axel (although he did last until December on the practice squad).
