The Jets announced last night the signing of their seventh-round draft pick, RT Nate Garner. Garner is the first of the team’s six picks to sign, terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Garner (6-7 318 lbs.) likely was noticed by the Jets as they watched a lot of tape on McFadden, and it was Garner who’s road grading skills helped the team have two players run for over 1,000 yards in Felix Jones and McFadden.
Garner has been attending many of the activities so far and will be there for the mandatory minicamp beginning on Thursday.

You never know, sometimes these guys turn out to be 10 year pros.

True. You can never have too many O-line prospects.
-
Looks like the perfect guy to try and develop. Excellent 7th round pick.
-
and from that picture, it looks like his frame could handle alot more weight, 350 maybe?
-
All I can think of is Ryan Young and Fabini! Late round picks who had great carrers though youngs was cut a little short with injuries.
-
Bassett – Turner will be a keeper.

I hope this guy can play, I love our new OL, and am probably one of the few people who thinks D. Woody will be fine at RT. I am somewhat concerned about our apparent lack of depth at OL. I fear that we are one OL injury from being where we were last year. I hope we are seriously considering signing Shane Olivia.

You can’t coach size or speed. With 6th or 7th rounders, it makes sense to take a guy with some promising physical attributes and hope you can develop a player. They did it last year with Bender and Stuckey and again this year with Henry and Garner.

i agree…i feel good about woody…i think he’s a hugh improvment over clement…wether or not he played only 5 games at RT…we do need a hold the fort type lineman in case of injury…back to you…lol…

Fabini was another 4th rounder the Jets scored on. Hopefully Lowery continues the 4th round trend!

I like the fact that hes so big and that he played on a dominant running team… I hope he tears it up… Henry too… we need a tall reciver to step into our line up for goalline situations…

Dak,
We need to have some of these late round OL draft picks become players, we can’t keep using early round picks and signing big name FA’s for the OL ,or our salary cap will be crap in a few years. If these late round guys work out we can spend the money on skill position offensive players and impact defenders.

yeah it would be great if 1 of are late round OL picks ends up being a stud…lets just hope they all learn off faneca and compete for a starting job…

omg this is the missing piece in the OL he will replace woody in the line in 3 yrs i have a good feeling bout his guy

Being from Arkansas, I imagine Garner’s a good run road grader, but doesn’t have any pass blocking skills. Hopefully, he develops that. And add me to the list that feels good about Woody at RT. He also can play anywhere along the OL.

nyckage,
You hit the nail on the head. He can replace Woody (or Moore for that matter) in a few years. That is what the so-caled experts don’t get about our off season moves. We brought in guys who can play now, while giving us a chance to groom their replacements in the near future. If we tried to use these young guys now we would get killed. By signing these FA, it gives us some breathing room. However, we cannot start to look for their replacements 3, 4, or 5 years from now, or we’ll back back in the same position.

They should have this guy rooming with Callahan. The goal should be, to get this guy ready to play an important part — this season. Fabini shocked everybody, by playing in his first year, why not Garner. Woody is 6’3″, 30 years old, has had injuries, and didn’t rock the world in Detroit. I want him to challege Moore at RG.

At least this guy is not another project, he is a proven team player that will be a good back up, just ask the Mac.

Bassett,
How about a picture of the fat bastad
