Blah blah blah … there’s a presidential race coming up, but there’s a race that really matters and we need your help on.
Apparently Sportsline is running a vote of “mascots” against each other, and the Jets (who mind you don’t have a mascot) Fireman Ed is up against that stupid Dolphin, T.D. Right now, the Jets are losing by over 20% but there haven’t been many votes and we can rig this … trust me.
I don’t like Fireman Ed’s embargo of the team last year, and we all know that these votes are pointless and just prove which fanbase has more time on their hands (which is why Packers and Steelers fans always win stuff like this) but I’ll be damned if I sit here and let a Dolphin beat not having a mascot at all. This is a matter of pride, and teams with mascots are for losers.
So, are you going to sit there and let a stuffed Dolphin beat a team without a mascot?!?!
I didn’t think so …
Please go here and show that no mascot beats a lame Dolphin anyday … please, this is serious. Post this around other blogs, Jets’ boards etc. as well …

Why wasn’t he around last year? I missed the story I was too busy worrying about bad football.

I can’t stand people like that who go the game primarily for the purpose of self-promotion and not just to root for their team. He’s our version of the Met’s “Cow Bell Man.” They don’t even watch the game – they watch the crowd and the big screen to see if they’re on it.
I hope fireman ed loses in a landslide.

I met the guy once he was nice to me… the tickets i bought actually happened to be really close to where he was sitting maybe two or three rows off… it was my first jets game i went to.. it was in miami and i remember it being a shut out… but it was crazy how he had pro player stadium doing the jets chant!!

Back in the days of Shea the JETS JETS JETS started in Sect 19 by a wild bunch who for every game managed to bring in a case or more of beer. Fireman Ed was not even around!!!! The group moved to sect. 306 but it was difficult to get it going from up top in the Medowlands.

I heard fireman ed had knee surgery last year so he was on IR. Fireman ed is a great “mascot” if you will but he stole the J..E..T..S chant from other guys who stole the chant from a guy named “Crazy Larry” who used to do the chant in the corner of the end zone upper deck at shea in the late 70′s. I remember back when I was knee high to a grasshopper seeing Larry do that chant than mooning the crowd afterwards. Crazy Larry and his crew sat right next to us in the last row. Our scetion was the only section doing the cheer and the rest of the crowd just laughed at us.

He was nice to me too. Say whatever you want about the guy but our crowd was lame when he first left. He unifies us well. When he is gone there will be another.

Yea that’s what I heard that he felt used by the Jets organization so he won’t be going to games anymore… The stadium was extremely weak last year… the worst I have ever seen. I go to all the games and sit in sec 204… I do my best to get the crowd into it but usually the fans near me are a bunch of cry babys who don’t like some crazy drunk runnin up and down the aisles screaming… If Ed doesn’t come back someone else needs to get it goin again

So Fireman didn’t show up to any games? He wanted compensation from the Jet organization? I was too busy being depressed to even notice!
-
C$..you are correct. Larry would drop his pants and moon every game. He was worth the $8.00 admission. We sat in the section to the right of where you were.

i never met the guy but we need him or someonelse to get the fans going…when i get a chance to go to games i loose my voice for 2 reasons…
1) for cheering on the team i love nonstop…
2) for yelling at fans to get off their assss to make all the noise they can on a 3rd and 1 defensive stand…
so if someone thinks they can do a better job then him…im all for it…

It needs to be a season ticket holder. I don’t think we need a leader as much as to bring the same intensity the gate D guys brought to body parts to football.
I lose my voice too.

RED..THAT’S GREAT, I was hoping someone else knew of him…..He used to moon the crowd after the cheer and have “lets go” painted on his back and “JE” painted on one “cheek” and “TS” on the other “cheek”. The crowds were much rowdier back than. Larry never made to move to Jersey. If he did he could have been Fireman Larry. My father said Larry was a fireman from Queens.
As for Fireman Ed, if he is really boycotting than I say good riddance. However, they need to do something to unite the jets chant at the games, it never really got going last year.

we should ALL forget about every aspect of last year, and instead learn from it.
mascots or “mascots” are supposed to help rally a team and its fans, bringing everyone together…enough of this dissing of Fireman Ed, just come together as fans and root on the Jets
-
C’mon Jets fans screw the dolphin!!!
-
We do have a mascot…

I can’t wait to see the results of the Patriots-Steelers mascot matchup. But the Pats have so many mascots… I wonder which one they’ll pick?

Brandon Me-weather,
The way I hear it, Fireman-Ed was compensated for his cheering antics, to the tune of free season tix. I guess he was even flown out to the Denver championship game to be in the crowd. So it’s not like he isn’t a fan dedicated to watching the game. Quite the contrary in my opinion.
Perhaps his rift with the organization has something to do with a feeling of “inappropriate” compensation… which is kind of the common theme going around the Jet camp, isn’t it?
For what it’s worth, if Ed continues his boycott, I’d love to see Chrebet leading the cheer on the big-screen…

That chant cam crap last year was a joke…we need him there or somebody else has to step up…plus no matter how you feel about him you can’;t let him lose to some F***in guy with a dolphin suit…post this on all all the jet blogs

I still hold a grudge against Fireman Ed. The chant started out (in the meadowlands) as a battle between the upperdecks by each endzone. I know in my section (340) we had Helmet Head (a big guy that would squeeze a tiny Jet helmet on to his head) who led the chants, I have no idea who was on the other side.
It was a battle to see which side could be louder. And when the lower section tried to chant we’d actually boo them.
Then Helmet Head stopped coming to games and at the same time Fireman started to take over. For the first few years it really hurt to see the lower section lead the chanting. We saw them them as the white collar fans compared to us blue collar fans. So even til this day it still seems a little off but I’m pretty used to it by now.
We need to take the chant back to the upperdeck.

fireman ed is losing 58-42…come on people

I actually met Fireman ED. He gave out an autograph to my nephew. It was on a picture of him in the stands with his arms out. I thought that was really nice of him. When I asked him if I could have one he told me he was out. I told him no problem and that I understood, I was just happy he made my nephew excited. As I turned away he asked me for my address which I gave him and he mailed me one. The guy is aces in my book. COME BACK FIREMAN ED!

Yeah the contest is ridiculous but I did my part. Can’t let the fish beat us on this, boycott or not.
I looked at the rest of the list though and I’m kinda curious how “Raiders Fans” can be considered a mascot? And how can you include teams with no mascot like the Giants, Rams and Packers in a contest of Mascots?
At least Pat Patriot is losing to a mascot that is hated by its fans (Steely McBeam) and could get bounced out.

F Fireman ED, he betrayed us last year and I know him personally he thinks hes hot ****…. I’ve seen him yell at little kids who were trying to get on the big screen when he was doing his little chant… Sure it was good for the fans and the team but he would never get my vote for anything
