Film Room: Tannenbaum Speaks

Courtesy of SNY. SNY has the whole story from camp yesterday, and gets a soundbite of Tannenbaum responding to Chris Baker.

  1. Can someone find Chris Baker’s Former Agent Cliff Brady, the person who told Baker that Mr. T promised to revisit Bakers Contract situation this offseason. Right now it bakers word against Mr. T’s, but the real convo was between Mr. T and Mr. Brady. Mr. Brady could of said that the Jets would revisit his contract this year to keep his job, but really Mr. T never said that. Its called an agent trying to keep his job while his client is upset with his contract. Agent tells client to go and play well and he will then get a new deal from the jets- well the agent hoped Baker played so well that the jets would, but it could of never been stated from Mr. T, it could of been just words from the Agent to keep his client happy and to keep his job.

  2. Further to Brads post, PK’s agent calls him and says I can get you more money, just like Pete. Cliff get the axe and CB trotts out the same ol’ story we heard last year.

You’ll notice Cliff has said “no comment.” You think HE wants to get into the middle of this? No way!

  3. Cause or effect?

It’s hard to tell if Tannenbaum is the target by Greedy Gordon Gekkos who smell money in the water?

Regardless Mr. T is a victim of his own words or otherwise, one thing is certain – the Jets are earning a negative image in the news and likely among the players. Perhaps, the kind of stuff that would keep players from signing?

I would hope not to have draft picks pulling stunts like the one Eli Manning engineered at the podium to navagate around San Diego.

Piranha or Pariah? Let’s not let this come between Jets and next “Broadway Joe” Messiah!

  4. Its just so typical, no beat writer will stick up for the jets in this one (not that they need to) because that is a non story, but a player willing to repeatedly bash a team that strives to have as few stories surrounding it as possible, well thats a feeding frenzy for the local media, which is exactly what this has become.

While I agree with Brad and billvv, getting to the bottom of this he said, she said agent, player, front office battle isn’t really good copy, but getting either side to make juicy comments on a daily basis is.

  5. You get concessions (e.g. a contract extension) for deferring salary, not for having it advanced. Much as I would like CB on the team, Tannenbaum must stand his ground or there will be no end to players demanding new deals claiming they were promised something.

  6. Salma Hayek promised me a date tonight.

  7. May you have better luck than Baker collecting.
