Gholston Showing Up, Keller Impressive

First of all, sorry to all for the lack of appearance by me here on TJB. I’ve got a lot of stuff going on what with the end of the school year and all. However, I will be around as much as possible during the summer as we head into the preseason.

Anyway, the two rookies for the Jets have really been looking good, Vernon Gholston and Dustin Keller. Keller has been showing Jet fans exactly what they will get if Chris Baker doesn’t come back, as he caught two passes over last rookie breakout star for the Jets, Darrelle Revis, who quickly established himself as an underrated cornerback. One of them was a quite impressive dive in the end zone to catch a Chad Pennington pass in an 11 on 11 drill.

Then, later Gholston and Keller went mono a mono in a coverage scheme up the middle of the field. Gholston dropped into coverage and Keller raced up field and cut a nice gap that made it easy for him to catch the ball over Vernon. Gholston brought him down near the sideline, but it was certainly nice to see Keller get good looks early on.

  1. ok i just had a bold idea lets put bryan thomas as i DE and let gholstan start and how bout we hire takeo spikes and move him to the inside it makes sense dont it oh and i think we should make keller 2nd string on the T list and 4th string as a receiver and 2nd as a fullback so that way hell get enough playing time wait scratch the fullback part let bubba do that

  2. “mono a mono”

    means

    “kissing disease a kissing disease”

  3. bryan thomas couldn’t play DE. he wasn’t strong enough to play it in the 4-3, much less in the 3-4. that’s why he moved to OLB, where’s he’s been ok at best.

  4. Sounds like Keller is a good draft pick. At least he’s a practice all-star so far. Eventually that will translate onto the field in a regular season game. I was worried about this pick a month ago, but after reading about how well Keller has been practicing my worries have been relieved. Looks like another excellent draft move by Tangini.

  5. I am excited to see Keller in action, when can the fans start attending practices?

  6. Unfortunately it is practice, hope we are reading about these two on Monday mornings in the fall

  7. It’s good to see the young guys are making an impact in practice. But I’m concerned that Keller had to make an acrobatic diving catch on Chad’s pass. Is that an indictment on Chad’s progress on his revised throwing mechanics?

  8. Bubby, Chad’s throwing mechanics have been indicted, convicted, and have no chance of parole

  9. mono a mono actually means to good players going head to head. its really a term used in baseball

  10. Mack-

    It’s mano a mano, not mono a mono. “A” rather than “O”!

  11. HAAAA… im with pete57 on that one… actually is say we just impose capital punishment!!!

  12. Mano a mano means “man to man”.

  13. Ramble-

Actually, it’s a term of Spanish origin meaning “hand to hand.” Mano is Spanish for hand. Though the term is used to describe man-against-man situations, as you said, it’s technically hand to hand.

  14. Our two first-round picks made out on the practice field guys…

  15. They made out?

    This isn’t New England, guys.

  16. I like the content of the article, but it really does need to be edited down to make it easier to read.

  17. nyr2k2,

    Thanks for the clarification.

  18. mack, glad to see your enthusiasm for the season. but how, exactly, does one quickly establish himself as underrated? if you are quickly established, i think you are no longer underrated. sorry to nitpick, but i have to agree with redd5 about the need for some editing here.

  19. I agree about the editing as well. Write it, re-read it, let it sit awhile and read it again. Revis wasn’t underrated
Nice to know about some of the individual plays though.

  20. If we’re going to spend time on mono a mono, can we get to then/than next?
