EEEE HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
Like the cryptkeeper, it’s the story that just won’t die.
Apparently word from Green Bay is that
“The New York Jets are in serious talks with the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre’s agent about acquiring the legendary quarterback, a source said today.
The Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only teams that have permission to speak with Favre about a potential trade for now. Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, has been in talks with the Jets, who have shown a growing interest, but Cook has not been working closely with the Buccaneers, according to two sources.
Favre would have to sign off on any trade before a new team would be willing to give up compensation for him, because if he refuses to report to the new team’s camp, the trade would be voided. The extent of Cook’s talks with the Jets means Favre at least is considering playing for them.”
ProFootballTalk is reporting the same story, and they added this twist:
In fact, there’s actually a headline right now on the Press-Gazette web site reading, “All But Over: Favre to Go to Jets (It’s Over: Favre traded to Jets)” although there’s no story under that headline, and it has the appearance of something that was mistakenly put up by an overzealous web producer. (UPDATE: That headline has now been removed.)
Here’s my thoughts on the subject … after the jump. (more…)
Here’s some quotes from Jerricho Cotchery today at practice …
On his progress leading up to his big year last season…
It was good to see the progression. Every year I try to get better and better and try to put in the work that I need to put in just to continue to get better each and every year.
After today’s practice, it might seem that Mangini has had enough nonsense from those darn Tour de Frenchies he’s been gushing about so much recently. This morning’s practice was “not acceptable,” and he’s looking for accountability.
“Look, these (practices) aren’t long comparatively, but come on, it’s a joke compared to what we [did in 2006]. Everybody has to uphold their end of the bargain. To whom much is given, much is expected to be efficient. We’re doing that, we’re not wasting any practices, any periods. So that’s where I’m at.”
I’m not sure JC was exactly talking about efficiency in football practices when he dropped that 2,000 years ago, but the principle can be transferred. Of course it happened during the day that Clemens didn’t throw an interception … coincidence? Hrmmmm …
UPDATE: It sounds like there were a number of dropped passes from Bubba Franks, Ratliff threw a pick-six to Ahmad Carroll, Wallace Wright dropped some passes, Justin Miller got burned badly by WR David Clowney, the pass protection looked bad, and screen passes weren’t being executed well.
OK, unsolicited opinion time, America-style.
Listen, when you ask Frenchies to help with anything — let’s not even get started on 20th century wars — if the answer involves, a baguette, a glass of burgundy and not going “balls to the proverbial wall,” you’re going to be in trouble.
Last week, I think I even heard Bill Callahan say “c’est la vie!” about a botched line assignment during drills.
Um … so … yeah … we’re just going to link you to Deadspin for all the juicy details.
From hearing him on the radio, I will note that Tom Casale is a bit of an odd bird, but he worked for the Patriots (via their PFW media wing) for more than two years, and would know a thing or two about the players or rumors in the halls.
- I told you then and I am telling you now .. there’s something about Dustin.
- Baker is just “preparing to play the season.”
- Bubba Franks says he’s trying to mentor Keller: “I wish somebody is taking Keller under his wing.
- Brad Smith is versatile enough to play several different positions, but coach Eric Mangini says Smith’s top priority is making progress as a wide receiver.
- Mangini don’t like no turnovers.
- It might not be hotter than Arizona Calvin, but it’s definitely humid-er.

If there’s one thing we know about our very own D.Rose, it’s that he’ll tell you what he thinks. We can vouch for that when last summer we saw him tell Eric Barton “I’m your only fan!!” In this column, D uses the space as an opportunity speak his mind, from the perspective of a die-hard Jet fan, tailgater and ticketholder in Section 321. Today, he reports from his journey yesterday to training camp and of his love of Jets media interns.
If you’ve never been to training camp, you’re really not missing all that much. It’s really more fun to go when you have a TJB meetup before hand and can consume some frosty beverages before hand. The highlight of camp for me was the media relations girl. She was uber hot.
But for those of you who really care about the football here are my observations:
Andrew Weiss did a good job of giving us a sense of what happened at camp yesterday … OTHER than the rally. Remember, if you are going to check out a practice, it could be worth a $50 Gift Card to Best Buy! Send in your pictures, notes, thoughts, whatever, and we’ll post them up! I try to read all comments, but sending me an email is the best method to get entered in the contest.
Camp Report – Wednesday, July 30, 2008.
To the fans who remained sitting in the stands long after it became clear that the entire practice would take place on the next field over I can only say “I salute your determination.” (more…)
Here’s video of Craig Carton, addressing the fans yesterday. Also you can see some player interviews here.
Since we saw the back of it for four minutes, it’s also worth noting, that maybe it’s time for Craig to mix in a new jersey … vote on who you think he should upgrade to in the comments.
Thank you for your patience to the many of you who tried to visit the site last night and this morning and found that your hrowser wanted you to download some weird file. What that was all about was that the site was getting transferred to a high availability server, so now (fingers crossed!!) the blog is up and running again, and should be all set. Please let me know if you get any of those CPU Exceeded messages from here on out, but that should be a thing of the past.
Again, thanks for your patience and for making this one of the best sports blogs on the intrawebs!!
We realize this is has become somewhat … divisive, but it’s about the Jets, so there you have it.
WFAN morning radio host Craig Carton led a rally to “Let’s get Brett.” Carton’s point is that his rally could have been avoided had the Jets endorsed the QBs on their roster, but they didn’t so he proceeded today at 1PM. Although I haven’t heard much so far, I did just speak to D-Rose who is at Hofstra today, who said it was, at the least entertaining. The rally did encourage more chants during practice, but we’ll have more information from D-Rose later tonight.
Stay tuned.
While Lori Rubinson makes practical sense, our friend (and growing NY Sports folk hero) Ted Berg defends the honor of Kellen Clemens on SportsNite.
While I think they both make great points, I’m looking at the season. Yes Pennington might be the favorite to win the job, but how long can he stay healthy? Even with the greatest offensive line in the world, he’s going to get popped, and when he does, he invariably gets injured.
Do you let him play through that hypothetical injury? Although I hope it doesn’t happen, the team can’t afford to do what they did last year and run an injured Pennington out there, under any circumstances, it’ll be a drag on the team, just like it was last season.
The hamsters who keep this blog powered seem to be a little tuckered out, so sorry for the spate of site crashes you’ve probably experienced.
Ugh … sorry about the server not working for many of you. Although we thought we resolved most of the issues late last week with some script tweaks, it seems that it’s come back with a vengeance, and many of you are having trouble accessing the site. We’re going to continue to tweak, and potentially seek a new home.
In the meantime, your patience is much appreciated, so keep checking back, and we’ll do our best to get this sorted out ASAP.
