Erik Boland was on hand last night for the event at Shea Stadium and wrote that the event was excellent, with the players receiving an , but that it wasn’t without some choice quotes from the former players on their thoughts of the Jets moving to New Jersey. The best one by far, from SB III Center John Schmitt.
… tonight’s winner for speaking boldly about the move goes to John Schmitt, a Hofstra graduate and center for the Super Bowl team.
“In all honesty, I think it sucks that they’re leaving,” Schmitt said.
That made me really want to ask Schmitt about the prospect of PSLs, but I didn’t.
A penny for the Jets’ PR staff’s thoughts? Screw that, I’d pay $100.
As a Westchesterite myself, the Long Island / New Jersey fuss one way or the other is pretty lost on me … either way, it’s there’s a bridge involved in getting there. I’m glad that the players were well received, and it sounds like as a whole that they were great ambassadors for the former era.
The new facilities will be a plus in attracting players (though I imagine $$$ and playoff poised clubs usually matters more) and being as the Johnson family has strong ties to Jersey, it makes sense they’d want to move there and the Morristown area is pretty darn yuppilicious.

My only comment is that Shea Stadium sucked (noisy, dirty, too few men’s room, etc., etc.) and I was very happy the JETS moved to the Meadowlands.

Where in Westchester Bassett? I’m originally from Rye (though I now live in the City)

Shea may have “sucked” (it still does) but it was OURS!!! Sharing with a team in another sport is nothing like being second class citizens in the Giants building, whether its better or not (it is for football).
Whatever, from now until the end of my time on this planet seeing the Jets in person will require a nauseatingly ridiculous travel day (and apparently a second mortgage), so be it, I’m resigned to the fate, maybe they will even reward me with a superbowl victory some time before its over.

I lived in Goldens Bridge for four years. Good times!

You’re right, Bassett. I know Pound Ridge and Katonah, but I’m not familiar with South Salem.
My friend was a cop for many years in Goldens Bridge.

I was there myself and it wasn’t what it was cracked up to be. Where was klecko? No Maynard either? I was expecting more. Come on, they couldn;’t have taken that old white jet out of retirement and rode it once around the field. DOn’t knwo what it was like in the picnic area, btu for a guy in the regualr seats, I thought the Mets could have done a better job showing their appreciation
