I met Joe Namath ten years ago in Dallas at a sports card show. He is a great person to meet. He is down to earth and is just as friendly in person as he was in his press interviews.
Well written article.

R in CT,

Excellent article, I was a freshman in HS when we won the Super Bowl, the Namath years were the glory years of our organization. My father and I were watching the Heidi game when it switched programming, we fell over each other running up the stairs to the living room to try and get the game on radio. Those were the years.

btw, Friday night I drove through the new Jets Facility in Florham Park. OMG, it was like seeing the Emerald City on the Wizard of Oz. I ran into a cop when I went around back to see the fields but man is this place BIG!!!! I'm hoping they have a Jet Store where slugs like me can stop by and buy more Jet stuff and get the feel of being on campus (legally).

Let's hope we start reading about signings soon, I got nervous when I herd a Mr. T reference about having Gholston signed about the same time as last years #1 pick. Can't wait for July 24th.

The guy made "the guarantee." No one - NO ONE - save for maybe Cassius Clay/Muhammed Ali ever did that before. Namath set the standard. Being a big NY Rangers fan, I remember when Mark Messier guaranteed NY would beat the Devils in Game 7 of a Conference Final. That was great, BUT - it was no Joe Namath moment.

I remember watching Joe Willie in a Rams uniform. It felt so wrong (even though the Jets were probably wise to move on without Joe when they did). I was 12 years old and thought Namath would take the Rams to the Super Bowl and show everybody he wasn't done. He played worse in yellow and blue than he did in green.

Joe Willie, this franchise needs another character like you at QB.
