First Rounder Dustin Keller Signs

One more down, one more to go!

Word on the street is that Dustin Keller is reported to have signed with the team, no details are yet known about the deal.  At this rate, the team should be able to focus on Gholston leading up to Thursday, so here’s to hoping the deal gets done before then.

I think Keller has the potential to be a special player and open up this offense, eventually becoming the #2 target on this team.  All the same, give him time, it’s not all going to click in year one.

Hope he got a good signing bonus, that Land Rover of his doesn’t run on that hippie biofuel!

Update: Boland has this on his blog too.

Update 2: DB Jonathan Zenon has been released as well.

  1. Brillant, just brillant! C’mon Gholston!

  2. well its good gholston is the last one i just hope no holdout and i think keller can be the next tony gonzalez or at the very least a dallas clark

  3. this is some very good news…keller makes 3 of the 4 in a week…now lets hope gholston signs soon…

  4. Keller will prove to be one of the best picks the JETS ever had, this guy has unlimited written all over him, as a first year player, I think he is going to surprise many in the organization and in the league, but in year 2 and on, look for him to become a prime target.

  5. Hey Dakar where you been? Nice to hear from you.

Are you pshched for the season or what?

  6. that should have read “psyched” for the season.

  7. Yoo…. I heard Chriss Simms is about to get released we should get him…

  8. add ANOTHER quaterback to the controversyi,i,i,mean competition!? the absolute LAST thing we need right now.

  9. yeah. chris simms is a terrible idea.

  10. ramble

whats up man…i’ve been around…hell yea,im psyched…my patience of waiting for training camp is running out…this waiting is killing me…i hate this time of year…5 more days left…thank god…

  11. i agree…c.simms is a bad idea…

  12. If Keller is unable to use the vertical game he displayed with the strong-armed Curtis Painter at Purdue, then he is at most a 4th round value — Chad Pennington cannot deliver the ball 15 yards downfield sufficiently to maximize Keller’s game — Thus, for however long Chad Pennington is the quarterback, Keller in no way can validate the #2 and change draft picks spent on him — Pray Keller does not get killed waiting downfield for Pennington’s wounded ducks –

  13. Dustin, is an over the middle player, and needs only 15-20 yards to stretch the field, fast enough to blow past LB’s and strong enough to run over safeties and corners. I couldn’t disagree more with you Johnny. As for him being a 4th rounder at best, its evident you did not follow the draft boards or for that matter known what a talent he was at the combine. This guy is able to be utilized at HB, WR, TE, this is a weapon unto itself. No sir, Tanny and Mangini have an eye for talent, and they took the best players available, just remember their were WR’s available who in general were considered safe picks, but this guy is special. Just go on youtube and check him out.

  14. Johny Styne…come on man we know you are a PATS fan. Quit insulting Chad. You hate him because he has the onions that you do not.

  15. neauone — I don’t disagree that if our QB can deliver the ball to Keller downfield that we will get the full first round value out of him — However, a significant part of Keller’s game (arguably the part that made him a first round value) is his ability to get open downfield — That part of his game, if Chad is the starter, will be significantly limited by Chad’s lack of arm strength (which in terms of zip and accuracy falls far short of 15 yards) — In that situation, Keller would not be worth the value the Jets invested in him –

  16. Johnny Styne:

You fail to realize that you are a pessimist and Dustin Keller has more than physical talent he has the backbone to play in the middle. Put any safety Rodney Harrison for example who hits hard and watch him fly off of Keller which will be funny though. I cant believe you are still trying to make arguments on the Jets team. Chad is the man and he will finally have more weapons at his disposal than he has in the last four years. This is Mangini’s year he has all of the tools he needs for the 3-4 and for the offense. It is shottenheimer on the hot seat not Sutton this year as far as coaching. Shotty has had two years to work with the offense already with players who have experience in the system and last year was a disapointment towards the end of the season on offense. Sutton has been given a lot of heat regarding his defense but this year I think Mangini will give Sutton a chance to run the defense with the players he needed all along. So go back up to Mass. Styne where your friends are.

  17. Thank you Fonzie.

Styne definitely needs to go. GO JETS!!!
