Oh Yeah … Oldenburg & Trusnik Are Shelved Too

It’s no great secret that Tangini likes to stash away some of their longer-term projects by massaging their roster somewhat here and there. Here’s our thoughts on the other two guys who were shelved and given one sentence to share in most reports.

LB Jason Trusnik (6-4 250) — The former Northern Ohio standout, appeared in six games for the Jets last season after being signed in mid-November and recorded six tackles on special teams. Trusnik was placed on the IR on 12/26/2007 and might still be rehabbing off his injury he received at the end of last season. Trusnik might have a good shot of being removed from the PUP in short order.

OL Clint Oldenburg (6-5 310) — Placed on the Non Football Injury Reserve (no idea what his malady is) Oldenburg, who was drafted by the Patriots in 2007, appeared in the final two regular-season games for New York last year after the Jets snagged him earlier that season away from the Patriots. Oldenburg added 10 pounds to his frame in the offseason which is good, but the team might push him to add more depending on whether they see him as a Guard or Tackle, or both. The Jets might have only limited space for backup tackles this season, and have a number of offensive line projects in Wayne Hunter, Robert Turner, Jacob Bender, and Nate Garner. Placing Oldenburg on the NFIR might be a way for the Jets to give him another year to add weight, watch film and .allow him to learn.

A number of articles mention the eighty man limit as the problem. There is a perceived need to stash guys in case the injury bug bites.

If Baker blasts the Jets, look for him to harm his reputation more than the Jets’s. He should be getting the message by now. His agent can’t see any good coming from ripping the Jets. If he sits, he is just waisting his professional life.
