Con Call 7/23/08: Harris, Cotchery & Revis
Just got off a con call with David Harris, Jerricho Cotchery and Darrelle Revis. Don’t consider these quotes, but rather … notes. I’ll link to the transcript when I find it later.
One roster note, OL Clint Oldenburg has been removed from Non-Football Injury list …
Also, check out Erik Boland’s blog for a Live Chat right now (1PM ET).
David Harris
On constantly being at the facility.
He likes and needs to workout. “They’re like my brothers. ” … I just like being around football.”
On how Mangini runs practice?
He takes it a serious approach. “Like clockwork … everything is scheduled [even] the water breaks.”
On how long he took off after last season.
“After that first month … I was missing football.”
Thoughts on Jenkins
4 or 5 time probowler … Jenkins is “going to fit into the system well.”
On Eric Barton and how he’s worked with him. (My question)
Eric has “helped me out a lot … giving me tips … great tips. He’s been in [the league for] 10 years now, football is something that comes natural to him .. he made my jobs a lot easier.”
Jerricho Cotchery
On whether he’s excited about Mangini changed approach to camp.
“No doubt. I’m happy to hear that.” He talked about the length of the practices as the toughest part of them.
On whether teammates were tired entering the season.
Tired? I wouldn’t say that …
On not knowing the starting QB, and whether or not it causes division.
“It’s not a big distraction at all. [I need to] focus on being the best receiver I can be.” As far as division … “no I don’t think that’s the case at all … it’s one spot that’s being highlighted … there’s position battles throughout the team.” Noted that once starters are named, teammates are happy for them.
On Brett Favre as a Jet.
“We have guys here, I wouldn’t do that.” Cotchery went on to say that he’s confident with the QBs in New York and that
On Keller and Stuckey and how they can help his game (My question)
Noted how he’s been focusing on his game, not that of others. “What has been standing out, is that those guys are making plays. they’ve been doing that on a regular basis.” Noted that if they can continue to do that, it will be good for the team.
Darrelle Revis
On his first full camp
“I came in late, it’s totally different, this will be my first training camp as an NFL player. It’s great to be here.”
Comparing his situation to Gholston’s … how did he deal with it last year?
“Basically i just worked out.” Revis noted that the coaches worked hard with him to keep “me focusd on what I needed to focus on.”
On who’s going to start opposite.
“I don’t know if I’m going to start. This is where guys are going to compete for jobs. (Hutch of the Star-Ledger later informed Revis, “Darrelle I got news for you … I think you are going to start.” which was pretty funny)
On how eager the team is to get started.
“We started the offseason strong and guys are feeding into the program … we hang out together [a lot], it’s going to be great, we’re excited.”
On his film studying habits from last year, and plans for this year. (My question)
“Yes we are going to continue, and yes we are going to add DBs.” Revis noted that he wants “to get the whole secondary.” He then said that of him and Kerry “we got a feel … a feel for each other” from their sessions that were helpful to the product on the field.

Awesome players and classy guys. Thumbs up Bass.
I love hearing about the film studies. Its like these guys dont quit. I hope the dedication off the field will show on the field, as well it should. if this continues we’ll have the best secondary in the league
Very cool. Interesting that Cotch was so point blank about Favre.
Bassett – you didn’t finish typing the end of Cotch’s sentence regarding Farve and the Jets QBs. What else did he say?
I’m so impressed at how deeply entrenched the “company line” has been sewn into these guys’ mentality. Very impressed.
i’ve been a jet fan for 30 years and i can’t remember a time i was more excited for two young defensive players as i am harris and revis. mike t takes his share of heat but he deserves a lot of credit for doing what it took to get these guys in last year’s draft.
