I'll never agree with the Celtics analogy, but hey if the result was the same I wouldn't complain.

No way the Jets defense is better than the Pack's though. They had ATARI BIGBY.

Bent, Faneca replaced the weakest link on the OL and Favre would replace the biggest overall weakness on the team at QB. Both are HOF level players replacing what were glaring negative weaknesses. I think it's impossible to quantify what kind of an exponential impact such an upgrade would have; that's where my Celtic analogy comes in. Because QB is the most important position in pro sports and because Favre is a HOF QB, the upgrade would have a Garnett-like influence on the Jets. It's not just that you convert a weakness to a strength, you put in the key position one of the best ever to play the position.

As for the defense, is the Jets defense now worse than the Pack's last season? I think if you went position by position, you would conclude that the Jets' defense is superior, so with Favre at QB, the Jets could easily make a deep playoff run because a good offense makes the defense even better, especially if the Jets get to play with a double-digit lead and the other team's offense has to move away from the run.

Reprocity, we will agree to disagree. If Favre decides to comeback, he'll be in revenge "I told you so" mode and will be the "good" Favre, who is a team leader and inspiration for, at least, 2 years, which is all I want from him. If you don't want to see and hear the announcement of Brett Favre as the Jets starting QB at around 4:05 pm at the Meadowlands on Sept. 14 and then watch no. 4 come out in a retro Titans blue and gold jersey as the crowd goes bonkers and he high 5s and head butts his other offensive starters, then I guess I really can't explain much to you. I'll tell you this much, I don't think Tom Brady, Belicheat and that weak Pats secondary on the visitor's sideline will be thinking that the Jets made a bonehead move.

Sack, There is a big difference between a player who wants to come back and a player who says he plays when he wants to play. One player is negative while the other is just a delicate situation. With Moss it was personal and the Pack and Farve are just trying to work things out the best they can. I wouldn't mind one bit as what to do with a HOF QB type of head ache! We just have to deal with disgruntle TE's :)

Sack, I wasn't prepared for you to start quoting Keynes at me!

OK. So here's where I'm at...is the Jets defense and the rest of the team good enough that adding Favre puts them in a position where they can win the Superbowl. I say no...not right now.

If the Jets defense and the rest of the team gets better could it be good enough that a Chad or a Kellen or a next year's number one pick could get them there in a few years. I say maybe...but not if we can't afford to keep upgrading because we are paying big money that wasn't budgeted for to a QB and then dead money to a retired QB.

Now, if he decides he will play for less, then I agree 100% that changes everything...but I can't see that happening.

As for the Celtics, they added two guys to a starting five that already included a perennial allstar in Pierce. They play 40 minutes each a game, so that's literally 50% of your team in minutes terms. It wasn't hard for them to put the rest of the team together cheaply with what they had already by adding a few role players. Even if Favre and Faneca transform the offense, they can't represent as much as 50% of the team, so the rest of your team will be weaker than average if you overspend on the QB position. Adding two guys to a 12 man basketball (active) roster has a far greater impact than doing the same on a 45 man football roster.

If we could pull off a trade for Favre we should do it. I think a third round pick and maybe Baker would be fair. However, Favre would have to drop his salary to around $4-5 million.

The guy can still flat out play. I would cut or trade Chad, and let KC and Ainge learn from a HoF QB, then after two years one of them could take over.

I can't help but think how much fun it would be to have Favre slinging the ball around the Meadowlands.

NYC Parking Expert, I agree that the risk with Favre would be convincing him to play a minimum of 2 years, but he has to know that any team that trades for him would want that commitment. Plus, I think a lot of his unhappiness was with the Pack's FO which he thought was not doing anything to make the Pack better. A change of scenery, especially to New York, could rejuvenate him. Every superior athlete wants to go out on top and wants the biggest stage, NY gives Favre a platform that he's never had before. Plus, could you imagine if the Jets won the Super Bowl with Favre at QB? Favre would reach a different level of stardom and his career would be viewed much differently. No QB has won Super Bowls with two different teams. He would go from being considered one of the best to the best QB of all-time. I'm willing to bet that Favre would love that challenge.

He was a "has-been" 2 years ago? No, 3 years ago he was a "has-been" because his team stunk and he had the only losing season of his HOF career. Two seasons ago, he was the only difference between a 4 win and an 8 win team. Also, what is Cotch supposed to say? That the team needs Favre? Chemistry? Favre has been universally regarded as a great teammate. I think Pace, Jenkins, Faneca, Thomas Jones, Keller and Gholston would all like the fact that nobody will be looking at them, the spotlight will be on Favre. Like I've said before, Keller could be All-Pro with Favre at QB; it could be like Namath to Caster in 1972 all over again. Favre is such an exponential upgrade at QB that unless the Pack's trade demands are outrageous, the Jets FO should do everything to get him. I hate saying "same old Jets" but missing out on Favre twice would be reason no. 1,000 why this team is always on the outside looking in.
