Buzz: Goodell Involved In Favre Situation?

by Bassett on July 25th, 2008 at 4:37 pm

Rumor is that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is now involved in the Favre saga and telling Green Bay to pull the (Johnson & Johnson brand) Band-Aid off this Favre situation.

With that in mind, should anything happen, this might move quickly.

Please, PLEase, PLEASE trade for FAVRE!!! If we’re gonna lose anyway at least let’s be entertained.

  2. avatar Fonzie/Naples says:

It is ABSOLUTELY ABSURD to sign this guy. It would be out of pure desperation. He is a OLD Chad clone but less accurate and LESS BRAINS.. The Jets have enouh issues to settle without having to deal with an old man that threw more int’s than td’s the previous two years!!! Plus what part of the future are we willing to part with?

  3. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

thet are asking for a 1st rd pick……..i say a 3rd and a 5th should get it done?

  4. avatar Bent says:

    Good luck with that.

  5. avatar Fonzie/Naples says:

    HOZ THE JET:
How can we possibly entertain the idiea of this guy comming to the Jets . This is not baseball, you don’t get a guy to come in and pitch one inning. We are looking AND building a future. Aren’t we?

  6. avatar EastSideKahaluu says:

I read on Boland’s blog that Tannenbaum told Chad that the Packers had reached out first to the Jets regarding the situation and not vice-versa

  7. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

bret favre saids he dosen’t want to play for us,so i guess we can move on!

  8. avatar pat d says:

    Fonzie

    looking and building a future?

that may be true but chad and kellen don’t fit into that plan

  9. avatar pat d says:

Bret Favre said “I love New York”

  10. avatar Jeff says:

How can we give up a 1st rounder for a guy to play for 1 season?? That must be a joke. heck Jason Taylor went for a 2nd rounder and he is 5yrs younger and the DPOY 2yrs ago!

  11. avatar ALL THINGS NY says:

GREAT IDEA! Lets bring in a grandfathered QB to run this team. This is probably the greatest idea, probably even better than trading for Doug Jolley. If any draft pick over round #5 is over paying for an older qb who is the record holder for # of INT and has a romance with choking under pressure. This is definitely the guy that I want running this team.

  12. avatar Brett says:

The lesson as always: Its good to have a former Jets PR Intern as the Commissioner.

  13. avatar ALL THINGS NY says:

    Brett Farve is over rated..

Yes Brett Farve maybe able to take you close to the promise land, but NO he can not win it for you

  14. avatar ALL THINGS NY says:

I really do not want him in a Jets uniform, I respect his greatness, but you cant win against father time

  15. avatar pat d says:

    ALL THINGS NY

Old man Favre is better than what we have

  16. avatar pat d says:

The NFL would love Favre in New York.

The money this would generate would be massive.

There is no question Favre would take a pay cut to play in NY.

  17. avatar ALL THINGS NY says:

Pat D, I understand that he is better than what we have, but we really dont know what we have in Kellen Clemens, but from what we’ve seen, yes Farve is better.

Based on Farve’s history, he doesn’t take you to the promise land, and the whole point of giving up a draft pick for a man of his age is to win the super bowl.

Now, if you bring Farve in, you waste a draft pick for a possible 1 year stint, but not only are you wasting a draft pick, you can consider Kellen Clemens as a waste of a 2nd round pick as well.

Do you want a possible (not probable)1 year wonder, and then wait a couple more years to develop a quarterback or do you want a QB you can consider a franchise QB developing by playing REAL NFL DOWNS with the possiblity of a competant QB that can keep a the Jets in contention?

Signing Farve creates an immediate mess, the QB position is already a sticky/sensitive situation and if you bring him in, throw Chad and Kellen out the door.

Farve is a gunslinger but we have no legitamit deep threat that can go up there and grab it. Only one close enough to that would be the unproven rookie in Dustin Keller.

I just can not find a reason to legitimize this move.

Whether it be giving up a draft pick, sacrificing Kellen Clemens (remember, young QB’s struggle in their first couple yrs in the NFL) or not having the proper weapons around a guy who is more known for his deep threat and interceptions than winning BIG games

Not only that, being a long time Mets fan and a long time Jets fan, I’m sick of picking up other peoples “used condoms” giving them big money during the declining years of their careers

  19. avatar ALL THINGS NY says:

other teams i should say instead of other people

I dont want to fight for scraps, I want to full course meal

  20. avatar Fonzie/Naples says:

    Pat d:
QB to QB Farve couldn’nt win when his life depended on it last last year, so why take a chance on having the same result this year and give up the future?

  21. avatar spent says:

I took a picture today of Favre wearing a Jets jersey (It was Testaverde by the way). E-mail me if you want a copy.

  22. avatar ALL THINGS NY says:

Thank you FONZIE, it really seems to me that alot of Jets fans want to take this risk, I think Tangini will be wise enough to keep their fingers out of the cookie jar

  23. avatar AA says:

Favre with a walker would be better than Chad

  24. avatar Fonzie/Naples says:

    ALL THINGS NY:
How are the sports bars in NY? Still 60-40 Jets?

  25. avatar Bassett says:

i’ve said it before, if it’s pennington or clemens i think they both bring something different to the table and could equally do well, the kid has more “upside” but potential doesn’t win games. whether you love him or hate him, think he’s a fit or not, you have to admit that favre is an upgrade over either … combining some of both of their best qualties (experience and an arm, combined with durability)

the more i think about it, the more i see both sides of the argument, i was vehemently opposed to favre joining the team, but if all the Jets needs is an upgrade, favre can be that.

with better lines, some playmakers on offense (which is what cotch would become) a pass rush and a resurgent secondary, this could be a very deadly team …

  26. Haven’t we had enough of great players who are over the hill? I personally don’t need another Art Monk, Boomer Esiason, Ronnie Lott or Ty Law on the team. What they did in their prime isn’t usually what they do in their mid-late 30′s.

Yeah, favre was better than what we have when he played with GB, but there’s no way of knowing how he’ll fare with a new team and on such late notice, no less. I’d only consider him if it’s a steal for us, which ain’t bloody likely.

  27. avatar D. Greene says:

we should give them a 3rd round pick for farve, nuthin greater

  28. avatar swizzle81 says:

Favre is an over the hill QB, who is not in his prime and who should stay retired. If the Jets get him somehow, the Jets are going to get the Favre who showed up against the Giants in the playoffs, throwing off his back foot , countless dumb throws, ints and one that almost looks like he gave up at the end, then the Favre who took the Packers to the Superbowl, years back.

  29. avatar X says:

Why Is it that many Jets fans dont know football or their own team.. I love the Jets to death but also a football fan as a whole. Why do people forget Coles’ great speed coles is a deep threat, Not only that but to Say keller is teh closest thing we have to a dep threat is absurd keller Is fast but fast for a tight end maybe a little above avg speed for WR, Not only that but we Have Chansi Stuckey Who is speedy Leon washington, as well as some Practice squaders in David Clowney and Paul Raymond, Plus I think Brad Smith is about as fast as Keller, Plus Since when does coming off Second place in MVP voting make you an over the hill Qb that cant get it done? And Favre not being able to lead anyone to promised Land? Favre Has played In 2 Super Bowls WON one, barley missed out on making 4 (2001and 2007) since he won the first super bowl only missed playoffs once I think… League MVP 3 times… Yea Favre cant lead anyone anywhere. Plus Im tired of the older Fans griping about how they have watched 40 years of No championships and then complain about Brett Favre only playing one year for us even if he does win it all, being a set back. Take chill Pill and relax and enjoy the game Let the team decide whats best cause im sure if we could do better we would be in charge….

  30. avatar ALL THINGS NY says:

    X,

I agree that there is potential deep threats, but speed is not the only factor involved in being a deep threat. Who has the speed, the hands, and the height to go up and get a jump ball. Cotch is not fast enough to burn the DB’s but he does have a height advantage over Coles who obviously has the speed advantage. Yes they can both get separation, but you need a big guy to take the hits involved with Bretts gunslinger mentality. Honestly, if we gave up a 5th or 6th rounder to get him, I say, go for it, but If I’m the general manager, I am not spending anything over a 3rd rounder to borrow a player. This is not baseball, you dont just come to a team, take over that team, and understand a system that the coaching staff has been instilling in our players in training camp. I’d rather have one more losing season to figure out what to do with this qb debacle rather than pushing it off for another year and being left with a stickier mess… (What do we do with Clemens? Do we give up on him, draft another qb with a high pick? Do we let Pennington sit on the bench or trade him away? Its impossible for a team with a fill in QB every year to win consistently and what I want from the Jets is consistency, not playoffs one year, 4-12 the next, playoff the next year.

Even if the Jets don’t win a Super Bowl for the next 10 years, the bottom line would be that I would like a consistent football team that I can trust to compete with other Class A teams year in and year out. Give us something to cheer about consistently rather than 1 suprise year here one suprise year there
