If GB wanted to give away Favre they would just release him. A 3rd, 4th..not going to happen Jet fans. Trades for Pennington, etc, would be a steal of criminal proportions. Get real. Favre means def coord. have to defend the 'entire' field. That is the unique element that Favre brings. He makes the running game better instantly because safeties can't slide up to defend the run. LB's have to drop back instead of coming forward. The Jet offense changes dramatically with Favre, but it won't come cheap. If the Jets don't step up, the Vikings would give up at least a #1 if GB wants to put Favre in the same division. Favre won't come cheap, and as has been said, less than 1/2 of #1's end up contributing anyway.

James,

Too bad you are in Tenn. and not able to see Jet practices. I've seen two already, and I have to tell you, Ainge looks pretty good. He already seems to have a pretty good understanding of the offense. He seems to be able to make all the NFL throws, he can use touch, or he can zip the ball 30-40 yds. down field. If KC isn't careful, Ainge might be the QB of the future.

Oh how I hope we get Favre. It will buy us time to draft a QB for the future. In the meantime we trade Chad try Kellen as a backup and waive Ainge. Then we draft a QB next year in the draft. The Jets are heading in the right direction.
GO JETS

Everyone in the league knows Goodell wants the Favre situation resolved quickly so there is not a chance in hell GB gets a 1st round pick. They'll be very lucky to get a second. Assuming Favre would do an incentive-laden, cap-friendly deal with the understanding the fertile NY media market offers additional financial opportunities, it would be hard not to swap him for Pennington, perhaps in a three-way with Minny that sends CP to the Vikes and their '09 second rounder to GB.

Chad's done a lot of good things for the Jets but he's 32, injury-riddled and definitely not the long-range solution at this point. If you are going to play somebody that is not the future, while searching for the QB of tomorrow, would you rather it be a *nice* player who's *almost* gotten it done over the course of his surgery-plagued career or a hall of famer, who took his team to within an OT field goal of the Superbowl six months ago?

Sure, it would be tough for him to learn a new system and Favre would throw a lot of picks, but he'd throw a lot of TD's, also. With the defensive improvements it's worth the risk. And, for all his faults, the guy is certainly charismatic, fires up his teammates and would send a nice blast of chutzpa through the stale Jet air.

Fonzie,

Maybe there's another Chad Pennington I am not aware of. Pennington and Favre are clones? Yea, they're identical with the exception that Favre can throw 40yd bullets, and Chad can throw 10yd bullets. They are identical in there careers and accomplishments too.

If you are hanging your hat on their similar completion %, what good is that. What has Chad's high career compl. % ever gotten him? He is a dink and dunk QB. We need a vertical passing game.

The Packers don't want him back and they want a 1st rounder for a 38 year old QB..come on man thats insanity of the highest order ,not counting the fact he's not coming for minimum wage here is he? Mike T is doing his due diligence on this because thats his JOB. Packers called ..you listen and make the decision thats in the best interest of the NY Jets.

I hope we get Favre too. I like Chad a lot, but it is mostly because of his attitude and professionalism. Unfortunately, I don't think his arm will ever be able to take us deep into the playoffs. As for KC, he can still sit back and larn for 2 years and he will stil be young when it's his time. Plus, Ainge may be our guy in two years. I don't get some of you say we would be mortaging our future. Say we trade a 2nd and 5th rounder for Favre. Most likely we get a 4th back from somewhere for Pennington. SO giving up a 2nd rounder to upgrade at QB is not really mortaging our future. Even better if we can send Baker and a 3 or 4. Plus, we have had QB's who manage the game for years now and look where it gets us.

Pennington, as much as I have enjoyed is passion for being a Jet, needs to be dealt to Minnesota. The Vikes would surely discuss a trade if it involves a 2nd or 3rd because Chad instantley makes them contenders in the NFC. Again, the Jets need to deal Chad to Minnesota if they are discussing a trade for Favre.

Comparing Chad to Bret is like comparing a VW to a Porsche

What future are you guys talking about mortgaging? The future starts opening day, and we have for over forty years mortgaged our future and come up short.

I like the immediate future with a QB that will be in the HOF first ballot, and who had a great season just last year.

You cry baby management type company line guys are dim.

The time is now, and Bret is the guy.

Can't help but wonder what Joe Willie would think about BF becoming a Jet!

Funny thing is all you Chad and KC supporters will be the first to jump ship when they stink up the joint.
