EB: You’re overly optimistic. Favre already retired once. What makes you think he’ll play “a couple of seasons.” More likely, he wants one more season. He won one Super Bowl in 12 years with the Packers. He’s NOT going to come to New York and win a championship in one year in a new offense. The Jets will waste a draft pick and they still won’t know if Clemens is their QB. When they seek that answer in 2009, it’ll be without Chad Pennington as a fall back.

GB has little leverage here. They can’t have Favre making camp a circus. There are few teams interested. They will take less not to have to face Favre this year and have the fans screaming at them if he beats them

No reason to give up more than a 4th.

I mean if anything it would be a conditional 4th rounder or 5th. You cant give high draft picks for players that will only play for 1 maybe 2yrs at best!!

Some Facts:
1. SjFalcon2001 According to Favre’s interview at the NFL network the GB Mangement forced him into retirement. So it is GB management that gave up on Farvre and not the other way around.

2. sec111. It is also your perception of Chad’s diminishing skils. At least I am talking by using the numbers which by the way do not support your perceptive argument. If there is an argument against Chad is that he is injury prone and you cannot rely on him playing hurt or missing games. And his numbers are the result of playing half his games hurt or injured and in the worst field in football, the Giants stadium.

3. To the “wet noodles” the new class of unitelligent Jets fans, good luck

Jets already have there Brett, Ratliff. I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy gets thrown into the mix, strong arm and throws to the right jersey. Before some make stupid comments about this assessment, 1. watch him in practice first and 2. i could name a half dozen QB’s who have come out of nowhere the past several years, Garrard comes to mind first. Why not give him a chance when you already know what you have in wet noodle armed Chad, and have somewhat of an idea with KC. Not saying he is a savior, but deserves a look at the very least.

Dan Leberfeld on Sirius NFL Radio today recounted info shared with him from a major network rep at Jets camp: the network reportedly was holding all their reporters at camp til 5pm because they anticipated a major announcement that Favre had signed with the Jets. When that didn’t happen the rep insisted that a deal was in the works. According to Dan he seemed very ‘convincing’. No mention of details of any deal.

Nikolas–
Farve gave up on Green Bay, not the other way around. He retired after the season and for the second time in as many years, he changed his mind and wants to play again. The Packers were prepared for Farve’s departure with Rodgers. Favre’s will he or won’t he retire saga has been goign on for the last 3 seasons and I think the GB Front office just said enough is enough, now move on. It’s not a statement of Favre’s playability, but more to do with not having that cloud over the franchise again next year.

That being said, I am still torn on bringing Favre to NY. I think it will cost too much for too little in return, especially if the Packers want a #1. Favre will want a pricey contract and I think we’re only going to get 2 years out of the contract, maybe less. Does anyone remember Neil O’Donnell? How did that work out for us??

Nikolas – you seem passionate, but your perception of pennington’s current skills and abilities are clearly clouded by the fact that he’s a good guy who we all want to root for… unfortunately, he ain’t got it… he’s certainly nowhere close to “top 4-5″ qb’s in the league.

While the o-line was awful last year, chad’s decision making and lack of arm strength in several non-pressure situations were just abominable//

do you not remember him throwing away the giants game – twice? do you not remember the almost weekly – quick out pattern intercepted and returned for a TD b/c the CB’s could jump his throws?

i applaud your loyalty to chad and agree that when healthy he can do some things, but nothing like you are suggesting..

a 3rd or 4th rounder for favre is fine.. but let’s just remember how many picks he has…

at the end of the day, if you can get one of the greatest qb’s ever coming off a strong season for a decent draft pick you do it..
