jetschick,

I see your point on Favre potentially being a better option than what the jets currently have on the roster but in the last two offseasons the Jets have dumped the "me-first" players and brought in guys with more team-oriented personalities. Are you telling me that Brett Favre would be team first? He kept his playing streak alive last year by playing with a thumb injury that probably caused his team to lose a couple games. He's played the "retirement game" in Green Bay for the past four years.

Brett Favre is only happy when he's the center of attention but he's not good with criticism. He's also been allowed to go out on the field and throw INTs because he's also throwing TDs but Brett has thrown plenty of INTs to cost his team games not just TDs to win them. He is a gunslinger, but at this poit in his career has too little care about his teammates and too much care for his own personal glory. I can do without that.

Oh, I would take Marino, Elway, Montana, Steve Young, Manning, Brady (god I hate saying that) and Jim Kelly over Favre and that's just going back a few years. These guys all had the ability to win games for your team and they also wouldn't go out and throw three picks to lose it.

Eastside,

It doesn't matter now since the scenario will never happen, but I didn't say we would get a #1 draft pick, I just said we would get something in trade. There were posters who were saying that we'd release him and get nothing back. Pennington would fetch something, but not his true market value for the reasons you gave, but we would not give him up for nothing. That was my point.

Favre to the Jets is similar to all the hype over Darren McFadden coming here before the Draft: Sounds intriguing, Divides fanbase, Might Happen, Drives up interest from other teams, Ultimately doesn't happen.

Hey Jetschick,

"How is it I waste space, but you Farve haters don’t"

Well, among other things, you refuse to actually consider anyone else's point of view. sack and i had a lengthy back and forth over favre's abilities, and despite never coming agreeing with him, I thoughtfully considered the post each time. All you do is repost the same crap again without addressing the points anyone has brought up.

But here's another chance....this is the top 10 list that you criticized in another post, yet refused to address. give it a shot and see if you can actually address these points (i've removed the "offensive" painkillers comment so you don't get "sidetracked" again)

Top 10 reasons NOT to get favre:

10. He’s just not that good. He makes terrible decisions with the football and is just as likely to cost the jets an additional 1-2 games as he is to win an extra 1-2 games.

9. He’s a selfish player who will not go out of his way to mentor our young qb’s. ask aaron rodgers - the guy is a d!ck. all he cares about is himself.

8. Because of #9 and the fact that favre’s remaining 2 years coincide with the last years of clemen’s contract, favre’s presence will completely stunt clemens development and prevent the jets from making any kind of assessment on his ability to QB this team when they’ll have to resign him or let him go in 2010.

7. He doesn’t want to play here.

6. What happens if he isn’t successful and the jets bench him? We become the team that snapped his consecutive start streak? great. no thank you.

5. Unless the jets could get him for a 2nd day pick (and they won’t), they’ll be giving up too much for what amounts to a rental player.

4. It’s going to cause salary cap problems.

3. God help us when we have to listen to announcers gush over him week after week and the jets as a team become a secondary storyline.

2. This isn’t fantasy football - you can’t just pick up a qb, stick him in your starting lineup and expect great things. performance hinges so much on a qb’s ability to grasp the new playbook and create chemistry with his teammates - both of which are kind of tough to do in a single training camp. The ability for to pick up that playbook seems like it will be especially difficult, as he is not a student of the game.

Can we trade a pick and Chad to GB for Favre and a Pick, say their 5th round and our 2nd round with performance clauses built in to either increase or decrease the picks based on performance? Favre would bring excitement and a chance to be instant contenders. It has to get done this weekend or else we move on with what we have got. I truly hate to say this but we could give KC the starting job and Ainge the # 2 spot and take our lumps. Chad needs to go into coaching.

sjfalcon2001, Problem is, we would have to pick up Favre first before we get rid of Pennington and teams, knowing we need to get his salary off our hands, would give us less return. It's all based on very simple eBay auction dynamics- you don't want/need it, you don't get much for it.

favre is a true warrior. leaves everything out on the field. who cares that he is 39. I want to see any of u lazy out of shape arm hair qb's get in front of one of his passes and try to catch it. bottom line is he is our best option at making a serious run and boosting self motivation within the players. w our revamped line = a strong run game he can take advantage of the one on one coverage our wr's r gonna see. no defense has been afraid to throw 7 or 8 in the box against us. let's see them do it now. I love chad but he just had some bad luck w injuries and supporting cast. I want to believe in kc but he shows lil flashes. he should have been ready by now. w the way we built this team thru FA and the draft favre is the missing piece of the puzzle. it would be an honor to cheer for a legend!
