There is a (probably bogus) rumor all over the internet that Tom Brady is set to miss two to four games this season (remember they play the Jets in week two). Here’s the original source
This just in.
We’ve received news from a reliable news source, that would like to remain anonymous (initials E.B. who is a writer for the _______ News), that Tom Brady will likely be missing between two and four weeks of the regular season.
Note that they didn’t say which weeks he would miss. Is this anything more than a guess? Interesting that this rumor (which deadspin called a “rumour” – can’t they spell or something?) should come out on the eve of many fantasy football drafts scheduled to be taking place on labor day. Hmmm.
Did I mention that I think this rumor might be bogus? Let’s hope I’m wrong.
If you want some real news, I’ll pass on that the Jets will be announcing their practice squad tomorrow, one day after most teams.
Considering all the “experts” think the Jets suck, it’s interesting how quickly their AFC East rivals moved to pick up some Jets that couldn’t even make the active roster. Of course, they may only be there to share information about the playbook…
Jason Pociask has been picked up by the Pats and Nate Garner was added to Miami’s active roster.
Also, one of the Pats cuts was S John Lynch and Rich Cimini says he’s “hearing” that the Jets might make another run at him. Also from the above link, the Dolphins also picked up guard Andy Alleman off waivers and apparently the Jets had put a claim in for him too, so it seems they aren’t 100% satisfied with their OL depth.
Finally, one of the Jets cuts, C/G Kyle DeVan was apparently told to stick around, so could he be one of the practice squad members?
I’m exhausted, so this time you guys can do the work…any names out there following cut-down day that tickle your fancy?
Leave your suggestions in the comments…
Here is an interesting read about, yes you guessed it, Brett Favre. He says that he was never 100% sure he wanted to retire and that Ted Thompson really pressed him for a decision. More importantly he mentions that he is having a “blast” so far with the Jets. Tannenbaum wanted a two year commitment from Favre.
- Hutch now admits it would have been odd for Chatman to be released (a day after reporting that that was going to happen).
- The veteran Cimini and rookie McManus battle over the annual writers’ roster pool.
- Coach Mangini’s Conference Call.
- Bob Bullock provides a little analysis on how the roster breaks down.
Stay tuned, Brian will be back shortly and there will be plenty of information on the practice squad as it is announced.
Poor Jason Nerys. This time three years ago, he spoke to the media about how thrilled he was to make the team after the Jets announced their cuts and he wasn’t among them. Unfortunately for Nerys, the Jets picked up another player off waivers (I believe it was TE Zach Hilton, who had zero impact with the Jets) and this bumped him off the roster. He never got to play in the NFL…
So, now the cuts have been announced, who goes if the right player becomes available via trade or waiver wire transaction? Who is the 53rd best player on this team, or does it depend who the Jets can bring aboard? Who is still on the bubble?
You decide…
Cimini with a minor correction based upon a quote from Chatman’s agent, who seems like he would probably say “no, I don’t” if you suggested that he seems to deny everything:
Jesse never tested positive for a steroid or any other performance-enhancing drug. Near the end of last season the League claimed he had a diuretic in his system that they said could also be used as a masking agent. After spending great time and money defending his innocence, the League made its final ruling and now Jesse has no choice but to look ahead to week 5
I meant to make the point earlier that a substance abuse ban doesn’t always mean steroids (could be painkillers or something like that), but didn’t get a chance to with all that was going on (although, you will note that I deliberately didn’t mention steroids in my post). However, despite this (and a few other minor inaccuracies that, if anything, added to the intrigue today), this seems as good a time as any to commend Cimini and Hutch for their excellent and timely updates today (and thanks to any commentors that passed on links and news updates – you know who you are).
Update: The NY Post headline, currently says (in capital letters) “JESSE CHATMAN BUSTED FOR STEROIDS”. Ha ha. I won’t even bother to link to it, because they’ll probably remove it in a minute.
Further Update: Yep, they changed it to “Jesse Chatman suspended for substance and related-substances policy” (which doesn’t even really make sense). They still didn’t change the address of the link though, which still says “Chatman busted for steriods”.
After the jump, my analysis of the rest of the cuts. A hearty congratulations (but don’t get too comfortable) to the likes of Murrell, Cummings, Ainge, Clowney, DeVito, Brown and anyone else under the gun! (more…)

Note that Jesse Chatman, originally reported as a cut, was not cut, but there is a suspension hanging over him as prevously reported.
We now know who we’ll be rooting for this year (give or take a few more moves). Analysis to follow in a bit…
Cimini reports again: Jesse Chatman has a four game ban for substance abuse. Hence the confusion.
Meanwhile, he confirms the Poteat, Chatham and Bender cuts and three more names, Jason Pociask, Cam Worrell and Nate Garner. Analysis after the jump: (more…)
Wave goodbye to Jacob Bender and David Ball. Analysis after the jump. (more…)
Hutch reports that the Jets rescheduled the 1pm conference call (where they would presumably announce the cuts) and draws the conclusion that the Jets might be rethinking the decision to release Jesse Chatman, which he describes as “odd”. The conference call will now be at 6pm ET.
I wonder if the Jets floated the trade rumors from earlier today (happy to help, by the way) to see if anyone would register interest – and maybe something is on the cards.
Sorry about the bits ‘n’ pieces nature of today’s coverage, but I’ll keep passing the news on as I hear it.
Latest blog post from Cimini suggests the Jets are about to make a trade. However, it may *not* be for Jesse Chatman, whose agent has reportedly denied that his client has been traded OR released. The cutdown deadline is 4pm ET.
Cimini wonders if the trade could be for Chris Baker or Justin Miller. Meanwhile, an unsubstantiated rumor (apparently from ESPN1050, hat tip Ed(itor)) says that Kellen Clemens has been traded to the Vikings.
UPDATE: Cimini has now done some digging and confirmed that there is no chance of this happening.
We’ll keep you posted…
