Dave Hutchinson notes in an article about local product Brandon Renkart that he’s not sure if Justin has done enough to warrant him being an every down type player.
Neither Justin Miller nor David Barrett has stepped up in the battle to start at right CB opposite Darrell Revis. Rookie fourth-round pick Dwight Lowery, veteran Hank Poteat and third-year pro Drew Coleman provide solid depth.
Depth is good, but the team sure could use a solid second corner they don’t have to worry about swapping situationally or based on certain gameplans. Should this stay unsettled, we’ll likely see some of the rotation that we did last year. If Miller can’t take this job from a bunch of depth players on this year’s team, he might never be able to … stay tuned …

Cimini just posted the depth chart. Clemens is the #1 QB.
Ask Mangini, my guess he will say ‘C comes before P’.

It’s interesting to watch the two sides of the Justin Miller review. Last Saturday on Jets Nation everyone was gushing about his progress. The previous post has a smiley face with shades (I think that means cool) and said he is playing well. In this post Hutch says he hasn’t stepped up. I guess preseason will tell.
btw, it’s interesting to watch NFL live visit the various camps. Some teams in shorts and helmets, while others in full pads with full contact. I’m not sure who’s up today, by the time they get to the Jets I hope #4 is back in retirement so they will actually talk about the team. Yes I have a job, and yes I tape the shows and watch them at night. My best to SD99 who has been very quiet lately, I’m looking for a mega post on Friday morning (cp vs kc).

u know its funny if miller didnt get injured and leon didnt rise as the new KR miller wouldnt even be a candidate 4 the starting job cuz he would be 2 busy wit his KR job
-
Weird how we hear different stories. All I have heard is how pleased Mangini has been with Miller this camp. How he came to camp in shape and his footwork in vastly improved……I respectt Hutch but what gives here??
-
i still think justin miller will be a solid corner for us… and if our front 7 is as dangerous as it looks on paper…miller may be even better than just solid…and if not miller than poteat will do the job…he came on last year as the season was wineding down…anyway, just my thoughts…

Miller is listed as the #2 corner on the depth chart the team just released…
Clemens is listed as the starting QB…
See Cimini’s article…

Great question for everyone: For get who you want to start, or who should start– Who do you want to WIN the job?
By win the job, I mean Mangini and Tannenbaum decide this QB performed the best and gives us the best chance to win TODAY.
I bet the majority says Clemens. I do, obviously.
-
Miller is losing steam already?!! Well if Lowery gets a couple of preseason games under his belt and impresses Mangini….. Then Miller will be thrown back into the depth pool and who knows we can see Barrett released soon and Carroll with Lowery splitting reps. We might have found our solution at number 2 cornerback.
-
Ropati is still alive!!!!! We will get a chance to see him. I am pulling for him. If he makes it through next week and plays in next week’s preseason game then he might just make practice squad.

Anthony:
What has Clemens proven? I mean he is just like rest of the qb’s out there that need a great offensive line to be spectacular. Chad has proven though his career that he can lead this team to the playoffs and win. Now with this team who has spent more than 100 million dollars in the draft and free agency you are going to give it to an unproven qb. Whats wrong with you?!!!
-
Pennington has proven what? That he is not capable right now of taking this team where it needs to be. With that logic, you would have started Pennington over Eli Manning last year and Roethlisberger two years before.
I asked who you would want to WIN the competition. At the end of the day, I would be happier if Mangini thought Clemens was the best shot than if he though Pennington was the best shot. The question itself implies Clemens is better than Pennington.
-
First off let me say I want Clemens to win the job. Anthony, great point about Eli and Big Ben. I hope Pennington returns to his 2002 form. Is it likely? No, of course not. The Chad supporters speak of him as if HE’S Brett Favre. he’s done some nice things in his career, and he’s had some awful performances in big spots as well. Alot of QB’s fit that category. What the Chad supporters refuse to look at is the fact that Chad’s best days are probably behind him. He could prove me wrong, but it’s tough to come back from 2 shoulder surgeries. And the Chad supporters like to point out his “highlights”, but you overlook the “lowlights”. Like the fact that he gets seriously injured on a regular basis. That is huge. What the Chad detractors can’t stand is his style of play. His completion % is so high because he takes very few risks. Dumps off constantly. While this cuts down on turnovers, it also cuts down on big plays. If you have the 85 Bears defense that’s great. But right now no one has that defense, especially the Jets. I am in the camp that is ready for a change in the offense where we look to make more big plays. I simply find it hard to watch Chad run the offense. if we had won a SB in the last 5 years with him than maybe I’d be ok, but we haven’t. So I’m ready for our QB to throw 75 yard bombs and 30 yard lasers over the middle, and i will live with the turnovers.
-
I wouldnt release David Barrett. Or else he will end up in the Patriots just like our other cast-offs.
-
i said this before and im saying it again…if chad doesn’t destroy KC in camp then by all rights the job should go to KC…who will do alot more than throw int’s and that’s win games…plus how can any of us say chad gives us a better chance to win when KC won more games than him last year…most of which were without LC…and not to mention the dropped passes that might have cost KC at least 2 more wins last year…so if any1 gives this team a chance to win now its KC…and i liked what i saw in KC when running the 2 mintue offense last year…just my thoughts…

i agree…to lead a team deep into the playoffs and possibly a champioship the QB needs to be a RISKTAKER…chad isn’t and from what i’ve been reading KC is…and to me the difference between an average QB and a good 1 is the risk 1 takes to win games… some say KC is making mistakes…others say he’s taking risks…i perfer to think KC is trying to make a play by taking a risk…and that is his upside along with his arm strength…and he’s smarter than most would admit…its time for a change and be better than 10-6 and crawling into the playoffs…which is what chad gives us…KC can give us 2-3 more wins than chad…like them or not-these are my thoughts…
-
Are you saying Kellen is as good as Eli or Big Ben ?
Those guys were big time draft picks. If Kellen had that ability, I don’t think he would have slipped to the second round.Kellen has a strong arm and I hope he plays great and wins the job, but a strong arm does not entitle you to start.
Until he cuts down on the INT’s, he cannot be the starter and be successful in the NFL.
He gets a chance on Thursday night to show that he has taken that next step in his development. -
pete99
KC slipped to the 2nd round due to a broken ankle… not becuz he couldn’t play…or wasn’t as good as those chosen in the 1st that year…

anthony
Everyone would love to see Klemens win the competition at QB. That would would mean a hope for improvement and not the same old results. The fact that there is a QB competition says it all. Neither option is all that promising. It is not a recipe for success.
The Eli Manning and Roethlisberger references are ridiculous because Klemens is not close to them. He has no pocket presence and he probably never will.
-
patd
how would you know if KC isn’t as good or better than them…he hasn’t really had a chance to prove anything much play behind a team that has a good o-line like theirs…but now that he does we can all find out that he will be better than most think…jusyt my thoughts…
-
I say if he’s keeping up with J Co part of the time it’s better than a lot of corners. You have to consider who Miller is lining up with in practice.
-
dakar
i hope you are right.
but the fact that a38 year old Qb’s agent was contacted 4 times tells you what the upper brass thinks. -
Oh yeah
This story was about Justin Miller.
If he can’t play behind this front seven then it is time to move on. I think he will be fine.

Anthony:
Pennington has already proven to us what he can do. He is the only quarterback to my knowledge to lead his franchise to the playoffs three times. If my thinking is correct Mangini and Tannenbaum do whats best for this team and are always in a win now mode and improving this team by whatever means necessary. Your references to eli Manning and Ben Roethellesberger only support your arguement because they were young quarterbacks who had the team around them in the first place, but before they won their superbowl and I believe that is what you are referring to by asking who would Mangini and Tannenbaum would want to win this competition today you must remember that before each of those quarterbacks won in the playoffs they also lost in the playoffs (ben 2004, eli 2005). They were only as good as their team BUT they were proven to lead the team with the experience that they had. Clemens hasnt even finished a nfl season yet and if I was mangini or tannenbaum i would be thinking the same way. Why would I risk spending so much money on players who have the potential to win games and win championships and then go ahead and kick out the only source of winning that we have on a player who is an unknown to win the competition TODAY. Let me ask you if mangini and tannenbaum are thinking that Clemens is the best quarterback and the best to win today then they should feel great about the fact if clemens doest work out lets say 6 games into the season and he does start every game what happens with Chad on the bench? What would you do? If I thought like Mangini I would be trying to hide and get away from the fact that we lost two quarterbacks instead of one because I know that Chad IS NOT GOING to backup Clemens. He already said that he wanted out of New York last year if he doesnt get the starting job or compete for it because he believes he is a starter. What would you do if Clemens wins the competition but loses the season. Remember the competiton is only preseason which is about a month and a half. The season is four months long and I were mangini I would not like to have one good month and four terrible ones.

Correction: not his franchise but this franchise

How many times on the camp reports have we read that JMils was “burned” or “looked bad”? He is a talent, no quesiton, but his fundamentals seem poor.
Vote Hank Poteat in ’09! Guy can tackle and plays hard.
Always,
Dave Barretts jock.
