Newsflash: Favre Officially Traded to the Jets
Jay Glazer is reporting that Brett Favre has just been traded to the Jets. Man, was I wrong about the Jets pulling the trigger on this one.
The Brett Favre era in Green Bay is now officially over. But Favre’s legendary career is not.
The month-long saga has finally come to an end, with the Packers agreeing to trade their future Hall-of-Fame quarterback to the New York Jets, FOXSports.com has learned.
The exact compensation was not immediately known, but it is believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season.
As a result of this, the Jets will likely release a quarterback. Signs have been pointing to Chad Pennington as the likely culprit because the team will need to free up cap room to fit Favre’s contract under the salary cap.
The Jets were much more aggressive than the Bucs in their pursuit of Favre all along. The bigger issue was getting Favre on the same page as the Packers front office as far as the Jets were concerned.
Finally, late Tuesday, Favre talked to Jets head coach Eric Mangini and others in the organization for the first time as they tried to convince Favre he would be a good fit in New York.
Oh. My. God.
The fact that no announcement was made for tomorrow’s game about the starting QB was the last shoe dropping to me. I’d imagine that Kellen will be seeing a majority of time. As noted, this means goodbye for Pennington … his salary is his ticket out of town, and he’ll catch on somewhere else. I’m just stunned at this point … utterly stunned.
I’ll pull some thoughts together by the morning, but for now, I want to hear your thoughts.

Boo. I have to root for the guy but I don’t really want to.
Joy Joy JOY, NE watch out…Tom Brady who?
This is awesome! I can not wait to see Favre to Keller…
I heard compensation was a conditional 4th rounder which could escalate to a 2nd rounder.
Does anyone really think he will stick for more than 1 year?
We just became contenders!
i can’t wait to see favre to franks in their jets uniforms……it’s a new day in ny.
Awesome! I have been and continue to be a huge Pennington fan. He is a warrior and was all heart for the years here. This was a great move, Clemens is not ready and this makes 10-11 wins realistic.
Should I be happy? I don’t know about this… does he really want to be a Jet? I guess this is just too good to be true right now…
yeaaaaaaaaaaaa this is the greatest day everrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I’m super pumped, we can actually br GOOD this year. But I just can’t help feeling just a little bit sorry for good ‘ol Chad.
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I’m a 20 year Jets fan and SO VERY EXCITED to ha ve Favre as our quarterback. The bottom line is that Chad did not have the capability to bring the Jets to the promised land. With Favre’s arm strength, our offensive is opened up for a complete run/pass attack. Our defensive needs to spend less time on the field. Favre gives us the chance that we all wanted — the chance to reach the Super Bowl.
Bravo Mike! Bravo Eric! I’m a proud Jets fan tonight.
speechless
I have been upset more than anyone since McFadden thing, and haven’t posted much. This changes it all. We are no favorite by any means, I was even against him coming here, but now I can’t hide my joy. I can’t wait for cold December and watch FAVRE vs BRADY, and than in January again. WOW ! 11-5 with no luck and 13-3 with couple of lucky brakes.
J – E – T – S JETS< JETS < JETS !!!!!
Pennington is gonna be cut. Guaranteed.
By the way, I LOVE YOU CHAD but this is it. He will be traded to Minnesota within 10 days.
J E T S JETS JETS JETS!!! HAPPY DAY o HAPPY DAY
This is a great move no matter what anyone says. I like clemens potential but he can learn from one of the greatest now. Chad i love ya bud but you know he couldnt carry this team. Give the Jets the due they deserve atleast they are trying to put a winning product on the field.
man, i cant believe there are so many people that actually believe this is gonna work out. THIS IS ABSOLUTLY SOME OF THE WORST NEWS I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE JETS IN YEARS!!! I Was at least excited about odonnell coming here. Man i hope the jets know something i dont know. Actually they dont. This is a man that sucked two years ago, has won two playoff games since 2002, same as chad. Is freakin an old man. Makes more mistakes then any of the top 50 qbs of all time. BOy you chad hater are in for a suprise when this man throws his first crucial interception halfway thru the first game. I dont get it. And last thing, chad is done , which in my oponion sucks. One of my faorite 3 -5 jets ever. ANd i used to go to see the jets play at shea.
GG Chad. You’ll be missed.
Oh my God it feels like Christmas!! Who knows how this is going to turn out’ but right now Nasty Nasty defense and Farve the field general haven’t felt this good since my honeymoon. GO JETS!!!!!!
EPIC
J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!!!!! in 1 offseason they have now managed to vastly improve the oline, dline, & now have a qb that can stretch the field…….i was already excited about the upcoming season but now w/ #4 i cant wait for the upcoming postseason!!
I’m a frequent visitor over here, love the camp stuff and come by a few times a day but have never posted before. I was against the Favre thing originally but slowly talked myself into it, but never thought it would happen anyway. You never know how you really feel on something until it happens and get your true reaction and now I know – this is freaking great! Look, we matter again. Is it great for the future? Nope – but how many seasons are we going to watch go by talking ourselves off the ledge with blind faith in a great future that never comes to fruition?
I was a huge chad guy – have the jersey, lucky enough to meet him and speak with him a few times. Was proud to have him as our QB no matter what the detractors thought. But we were not winning it all with him. Are we going to with Favre? Probably not. But, hey, maybe.
Let’s be real, outside of a few great throws, Clemens’ #1 claim to the top job was that he was a high pick. If we had seen what we have from him and he went in the 5th round, not sure people would be as high on him. And its not like we give up on him – he learns from Favre now.
Sorry for the long post, but I’m so pumped up – I’m reigning myself in, I could write for hours. Screw the pats, screw the giants, screw em all, lets go Jets! I can’t wait.
This is the 2nd greatest day in Jets history.
Am excited, will be fun, hope this works…
I honestly believe that anyone with any bit of marginal football knowledge cant be happy with this. I am a hardcore jet fan, i dont post much cause thats not what i do. Let me tell you this. This is bad. You all probabaly think that derek jeter is one of the great shortstops of all time. This guy is a freak high risk slinger, not even in the same freakin ball park as montana, manning, evern brady. MAN I HOPE I AM WRONG. Our first pre season game is in two days. There are actually people thinking that manning missing some time might hurt him. The greatest qb ever with the same team his whole carreer might be adversly affected becasue he is missing time. So a guy that every one was calling for him to hang it up two years ago (does anyone remeber that, man you guys have short memories) that has played 99% of his career with one team and with only several offensive schemes is all of a sudden gonna crush the jets playbook overnight and be ready to lead a team he wanted no part of a week ago. this sucks. And i am as hardcore as they come. This freakin reaks of SELLING PCLS BIG TIME.
This is very good to hear… Veterin leader… solid arm… and a solid team around him… Whatever happens this season this only helps our offense by opening the field like never before… Brett Farve is a New York Jet… HOLY CRAP… haha
everybody knows i didn’t want this…but since it happened…i hope it will work out…does any1 really know if he’s gonna at least play a year here…
1976 Patriots @ Jets – Patriots swallow seven INTs (six by Broadway Joe, one by Richard Todd) en route to 38-24 win.
2008 Patriots @ Jets – Patriots swallow seven Brett Favre INTs en route to big win; Favre breaks his wrist again, cries in postgame press conference.
the greatest day since matt snell ran the 19 straight and the jets won SBIII. ordering my #4 jets jersey tonight. gonna miss Chad. he is a warrior
I feel somewhat hypocritical through this whole thing. I’ve been very critical of Favre the last few years, with his seemingly selfish attitude, his thirst for attention, and most importantly, his INT’s.
That being said, we have a team built to win now. The most glaring need of the team was QB, we went from someone with a pop gun arm to someone with a Howitzer for an arm. This is like switching from dog food to filet mignon as far as QB is concerned.
That being said, I will be rooting on Favre the first game of the season.
this is just absolutely FANTASTIC…we have NOTHING TO LOSE!!! all were giving up is a FOURTH round pick!! and if it turns into a SECOND round pick then all that means is BRETT had a FANTASTIC YEAR!!! NO LOSE!!! AWESOME AWESOME NEWS…..TANNENBAUM is THE MAN!! J-E-T-S JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!
And to tannenbaum, woody, mangini and company – way to pull the trigger, way to get the guy you wanted, after so many years of near-misses they got who they wanted (whether you agree or not) and now we get to see what happens.
p.s. FAVRE is a GAMER….after the way the PACKERS “treated” him,hes gonna come out with a CHIP ON HIS SHOULDER and try to prove to the WORLD that he is STILL the man!!
last negative post then i have to get on board i guess. I mean he is a jet. Does anyone on this stream remeber he was one of the 2 or 3 worst qbs in football (IN ALL OF FOOTBALL!!!!!) in 2005 and 2006. Look it up. Oh yea, he is freakin 39 years old!! ANd in what was the so called maybe greatest year of his career ,last year, He choked again, throwning the packers game away at home with a 13 win team. Great , he plays with the passion of a kid, super duper. He makes mistakes like a FREAKIN KID!!
I love you tangini and woody
It’s just weird. And it’s the third time the front office didn’t receive proper value for a trade because they signed a player before they could trade the incumbent. Chad is worth a 4th easy, a 3rd in the NFC north
I am cautiously optimistic. He had an excellent year last year, but he’s gonna be 39, and he’s coming into a brand new situation. This isn’t going to be a smooth transition.
By the way, as I type Chris Mortensen is saying that Brett Favre might not have approved this deal.
Brett Freaking Favre is the Jets QB!!!! What a great day for the Jets and for Jets fans!!!! Now, we’ll finally see what a great QB can do with Coles, Cotchery, Keller, Baker, Stuckey and Favre’s old pal, Franks. Thomas Jones and Leon are doing cartwheels…no more 8-men in the box. The defense now knows that all they have to do is keep the game close, because Brett runs a 2:00 minute drill like Eric Clapton plays the guitar. WOW!!! My prayers have been answered.
im so happy, i dont even know what to do with myself
i LOve Chad just as much as the next but the people comparing him to Farve cause he won the same amount of playoff games are just insane. Hall of fame QB vs a guy who cant throw a 15 yrd out
GOODBYE CHAD
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8381934/Favre-out:-Packers-trade-legend-to-Jets
Let’s see how classy Chad handles himself now — He will throw everyone under the bus as he campaigns in vain for a starting job in the League –
NOW we can utilize all of Dustin Keller’s game — Would have been sickening to see him limited to five yard routes by that Rhodes Scholar Finalist —
Good Riddance, Chad — You will never get another chance to cripple any more our skill players –
FREE AT LAST!! FREE AT LAST!! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST!!
Biggest winners–schottenheimer, Thomas Jones
Biggest Losers–chad and clemens esp chad Brad Johnson’s not going to get much slash duties imho
Biggest need–receivers Can LC stay healthy? who is our #3 receiver Stucky Brad Johnson
This is how you know you are a jets fan – my excitement has suddenly turned to “what if he decides not to come?”. And, man oh man, what disarray would that leave us in. Gonna try to push it out of my head, and I don’t expect that to happen, just the way it goes in jetland.
Kudos to the Jets organization, they were aggresive in the offseason rebuilding this team, spending the money and then they had a chance to roll the dice and get an impact HOF QB and they didn’t hesistate. I love this aggresive winning attitude. They didn’t sit back after last year and are going for it. Its a welcome change for an organization like this. I’m very happy
Being a lifelong Packer fan I am very upset that he wasn’t treated like the hall of fame Qb that he is (hope the Jets win the superbowl, and the Packers flop…fire ted and Mike)…and sad to see the guy I have looked up to for many good years and a few bad ones leave like this..BUT I am pleased to see most of the Jet fans are excited to get the man…he really makes every game exciting to watch..enjoy
For all you Favre detractors, I’m re-posting this:
The problem is that a healthy Chad is both a rarity and not better than Brett Favre. Brett does have the most interceptions of any other QB. He also has the most wins, TDs and consecutive starts. He has only 1 losing season as an NFL starter. Also, since his 2004 shoulder injury, Chad has been an INT machine and has also thrown poorly-timed INTs. The difference is that Brett matches his INTs with the kind of big play ability that this team hasn’t had since 1998. Favre’s arm may be the most powerful in NFL history and there’s no pass that he can’t make on the field. Plus no QB in NFL history gets more out of his TE. Favre to Keller could become the AFC’s deadliest QB-TE combo.
Football Outsiders ranked Favre’s 2007 behind only Brady and Peyton. He made the Pro Bowl, passed for over 4,000 yards, had the highest completion pct. of his career and the highest yards per attempt for his career. Football Outsiders ranks Favre and Elway, by FO’s stats, as the best 2 QBs of the modern era and note that Favre has had, using their statistical metrics, one below average season in his 16 years as a starter, and that was in 1999. Here’s the article:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3276536
I like Chad, said all off-season that he was the better choice than KC and, often, I was Chad’s only diehard defender on this blog. But, Chad is not in Favre’s league as a QB. Their careers have overlapped as starters since 2002. Favre has been in 3 Pro Bowls and has had 1 losing season. Chad has no Pro Bowls and 3 losing seasons. Chad has missed games in 4 seasons, Favre in none. Chad has thrown 20 or more TDs in 1 season, back in 2002; Favre has done it in 5 seasons. Chad has thrown for over 3,300 yards in 1 season; Favre in all 6. And, if you look at Chad’s TD-INTs, it’s 80-55; Favre is 155-116…Chad’s ratio is only slightly better and skewed by Chad’s 2002, which was by far Chad’s best season and Favre’s 2005, which was by far Favre’s worst INT season. I’m saying this because if you start in 2003, Chad goes down to 58-49; Favre is 128-100…Favre’s percentage is better and I’ve included his WORST INT season. The fact is that Favre’s the far superior QB. That’s no knock on Chad, Favre may be the best ever.
what it comes down to is that Favre is a huge upgrade and giving up whatever we give up is worth it. Even if he sticks around for only a yr or even 2 we can realistically draft a qb in the 2nd round next yr and develop him for a yr….and who know clemens may come into his own under Favre….this is a great move considering the QBs that we had…now we can stretch out the field and sling the ball around and win some more games which is what this all comes down to.
I didn’t watch ESPN at all today not once then I turn it on and see “Favre traded to Jets”. Its good, oh its real good.
And I’m saying Favre is likely an upgrade. But he won’t play long enough for the team to get to a Superbowl and is ultimately a placeholder for 2 seasons. That’s why I’m not a fan of getting Favre.
Listen, we give respect to CP and wish him the best. the page has now turned and The Jets will be taking it to the next level. Welcome Brett!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw posted on espn.com board that the pick becomes a 2 if Favre takes 70% of snaps and the Jets make playoffs, becomes a 1 if they go to the SB. No idea if that is true or not, just saying.
Keller will become a huge weapon with Favre at the helm.
As ya’ll know I wasnt a fan of Favre coming here, but he is certainly an upgrade over Chad. I just hope his performance is more like last year than the previous 2 seasons. One other note here, how many Jets are left from the Herm regime, not many, (Ellis, Coles, come to mind first), this season is definitely going to be interesting.
Gavin- If the Jets go to the SB who cares about a #32 pick, the Jets in the SB that sounds like a fantasy but at least this gives us a shot at toasting Belicheat in week 2.
A conditional 4th? Is that all it is? And if we can flip Pennington to Minn for a 4th (or even a 3rd). Who wouldn’t be in love with that? Thank you, Mr. Woody Johnson! Tangini, you ROCK!!
you all talk like favre has been the qb for the jets and he is coming back for one more year instead of chad. Accoriding to every single human being on the earth that has any base knowledge on sports. QB IS THE HARDEST POSTION IN SPORTS> and a lot has to do with all the decisioins he has to make, and these desisions in turn are made based on his knowldege of the playbook. BY the way, i could care less if i dont post on here that much and if Johnny Styne is a regular (is he, the guy is embarrising) . You are a scum bag and know nothing about anything to do with the jets if you dare say good riddance to chad. free at last free at last!!! That was cute you scum bag.
NyjBeast89 – oh yeah, I agree completely. If that really is how its laid out, its a brilliantly constructed trade. The Jets in the SB – I mean, man, if that happened they can take another pick for all I care, for once the draft won’t be the highlight of the year.
NFL Network is saying here’s the compensation
Right now it’s a fourth rounder.
If Favre plays 50% of snaps in 08 its a third rounder.
If Favre plays 70% of snaps in 08 and we make the playoffs its a second rounder.
If Favre plays 80% of snaps and we make the Super Bowl, it’s a first round pick- but like Gavin said this would be one of the last picks in the round anyway
finally its over and know nobody is gonna have doubts about us in the dolphin game
I hope the Jets can get some sort of compensation for Chad, as I could see if the Jets just outright release him, Parcells and Miami would scoop him up. But hey at least our CB’s will be used to picking off his lollipop passes.
I have no idea whether Favre will lead the Jets to the playoffs or the Super Bowl, but now it’s more likely than it has been since 1998. I have a ton of faith in Mangini to craft a game plan to beat the other team on game day. But, the team has to execute. Favre’s 63% winning percentage and 253 consecutive starts make it more likely that the Jets will win. I just don’t think anyone on the fence about this deal truly realizes how much better a QB Favre is over Chad. That’s no disrespect to Chad, Favre may be the best ever.
And, Tannenbaum and Woody get their man, again. Favre, Faneca and Pace…all hotly pursued, all gotten by Tannenbaum AFTER a 4-12 season. WOW!!!
This is the best day for the Jets since the playoff victory over the Jaguars nine years ago — That self-entitled jerk of an egghead is gone — His locker has been cleared out and the next time anyone will hear of him is when he’s named the Quarterbacks Coach of the Chiefs in 2009 — There will be time to relish Brett the Jet, but for now consider that we no longer have to watch the passive gutless play-not-to-lose dink and dunk offense that taxed our defense and crippled our wideouts and running backs because for years we had a quarterback who couldn’t throw — and now he’s gone — HE’S GONE — ZIPPIDY DOODA ZIPPITY DAY — THANK YOU ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON IV –
LETS GO JETS!!!!!!!! THIS WAS ALREADY A GREAT OFFSEASON NOW WE WENT FROM THE BOTTOM 10 QUATERBACKS IN THE LEAGUE TO THE TOP 5
I’m as excited as the next guy (if not more), but lets hope that the madden curse takes a year off.
It might be a little premature, but season ticket holders have fun with the $5,000 PSLs. Might be a little easier to swallow with Favre on the team right?
They just opened sportscenter with a J-E-T-S chant. I may cry. Okay, I won’t cry, but that was awesome. Its gonna be a crazy couple of days. Any guesses on the NY Post headline?
Sackdance…you can not have your cake and eat it too.
You do not know if Favre can take this team to the playoffs?
I can take this team to the playoffs! Anything less than a SB is a total failure. And stop kissing up..you were doing the same thing last year with the Kendall situation!
You give them a 2nd rounder so that he can take us where we were going.in the first place.
This front office is desperate to sell the PSLs, it does not give a s..t abou football.
WOWWW this is awwwsooommmmeeee… and what makes it all better… is i bought my tickets for game one in miami today!!! I could probly re-sell them for 3 times as much.. but i wouldnt even dream of it… and i got 1 extra ticket !!! Sec 111 Row 6!! AND ALL I WANNA KNOW… IS WHOS COMMING WITH ME!!!!!!!
Man for cryin out loud we were 4-12 last season and we spent all this money in the off season. This is WIN NOW MODE!! We had no choice but to go after FAVRE. I am tired of losing and I know he takes chances but look at his track record CHAD wishes he can say he had those numbers and CLEMENS is still getting his feet wet. The guy plays to win he makes some bne head plays but at least he tries to win and won’t settle for that stupic 5yd check down to the FRIGGIN FB. Its going to take time while he digests the playbook but I’m ready to ROLL! Tannenbaum and Mangini are putting all the CHIPS on the Table Remember “Scared MONEY makes No Money”
Mixed feelings about this guys
1) Ecstatic that Chad will not be the QB – he has NEVER been the same since 2002 – every D coordinator knows his arm is shot
2) We are not getting the mid to late 90s Favre. we are getting the randy johnson the Yankess got. If Favre understands this is a running team and it his job to NOT LOSE the game, this will work. No gunslinger crap unless we are down 2 scores on 4th quarter
Mort just confirmed Favre has signed off on the deal. Phew. Can’t believe they are gonna give him Glenn Foley’s number. Is nothing sacred anymore?
HAHA GUESS WHO IS ON THE MADDEN 09 COVER

i agree with you…and let me add…before this move i never once felt we were in a win now mode…i felt we did a great job getting the players we needed to make the team better…but after getting farve…i now believe were in a win now mode…i also feel that if we dont get to the championship game or to a SB then it was a total waist of money…cuz he’s not coming cheap…not to mention that its beneath him to teach those under him…he’s an arrogant and i dislike thos who think they are better than everybodyelse…just my 2 cent…
OUCH!!! why you even got say that!!! i wonder if he’ll be wearing a jets jersey or a packers jersey on the cover??
You guys act like this guarantees us winning a Super Bowl. They still have to play the games, and Favre still has to adjust to the team.
So maybe we’ll see Brett against the Skins on Aug 16?
NFL Network is reporting that the Jets are going to release Chad.
It looks like the Jets are the big story in NY for the 2008 season. That’s especially crazy considering the Giants just won the Super Bowl.
I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about the Jets… I just went to Stubhub and bought two tix and a parking pass for the Arizona game!
Chad was great and had tons of promise early on. It’s unfortunate that it never really happened for him. I hope he has success wherever he goes.
I can hardly contain myself…
what a pack of pestimistic pack of losers!!! Didnt you hear Chris Berman when we drafted VG!! And I quote “And the JETS have just won the superbowl” so it was already set in stone! but this just adds some excitment to it!!
My hands wont stop shaking!! The new chant is
“B-R-E-T BRET! BRET! BRET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Dakar -
I too agree with you. Before I didn’t think we were in win now mood but now I do.
I’m telling y’all it’s the new stadium and PSLs from Woody. That is a big factor in this.
Tannenbaum doing a conference call, its on espnews right now….
madden curse + curse of being a jet = brett favre missing his first game ever (or more) this year….guaranteed
No the madden curse would be that Favre gets cold feet and doesn’t report. Then he goes back to Green Bay.
i see us drafting another QB in 2 years…favre will retire after the season…clemens confidence will be shot and for the most part probably play awful…and last but not least…everybody asking for tanginis head…just remember im saying this so when i remind you guys that this is a mistake you wont say i didn’t say so…championship game or SB…anything less is a total failure and a waist of money…just my thoughts on the future…
This is a Favre-Job. Does anyone remember January 26, 1997? ANYONE??? That was Super Bowl XXXI. Where the Packers’ Brett Favre once beat the Steelers’ Neil O’Donnell… THE SAME NEIL O’DONNELL THAT WENT ON TO PLAY FOR THE JETS… THE SAME JETS WHO WOULD GO ON TO SIGN BRETT FAVRE… THE SAME BRETT FAVRE THAT ONCE THAT ONCE BEAT THE LATER-SIGNED-JETS’-NEIL-O’DONNELL… Do we see the connection here? It’s a conspiacy… and I think… a-derp-a-derp-a-dee-derp-deo-doo-tum-ta-teedely-tum-de-to-da-derp-a-derp-de-doo-derp.
this is the most exited i have ever been about sports even though i am a mets fan also and they just picked up johan santana in the offseason but i am more excited about this
the madden curse was broken last year vince young didnt get injured
psl move psl move. SUPER- I just heard that within one month- that is opening day kids brett favre should have about half the play book down. SUper, a whole 50% of the playbook. From a guy that gives us one year with a young and up a coming team. That mother freaker better have the playbook being faxed to him right now. Man, for diffrent reason i feel like the mets just signed bonds. Not to exicted but i guess i should be. GO JETS!!!!! by the way favre is 1-3 vs the jets in his career.
Tannenbaum pretty much just said Chad will not be here anymore, did not specify, said no trade, looks like just a release.
vince young didn’t get injured but he sure sucked
Man all this boo whoin for CHAD like he took us to the promise land do I have to remind everyone thats against this trade that we were 4-12 when you don’t make the playoffs you have to make moves!! Desperate times brings desperate measures. CHAD was going to win this QB battle because Clemens is not ready now he can just sit and watch. I don’t care if FAVRE does’nt try and teach if the kid is smart all he has to do is watch and learn and study film and listen. We might not even make the playoffs but i am willing to take my chances with a HOF QB then a guy that has never completed a SEASON has a NOODLE ARM and is scared to go deep because of it… wait a minute he’s scared to throw a stinkin 10yd OUT cause of that POP GUN arm
None of us can say with certainty how the season will play out. I sympathize with the Chad fans and recognize the risks that come with Favre. Maybe it won’t work, after all. But there is no way you don’t take the calculated risk for a 3-time NFL MVP who got his team three points from the SB just 8 months ago. Especially when the QBs on the roster combined for 4 wins last year and are either injury-prone or unproven. The potential upside simply outweighs the liabilities.
yea thats true but i just cant see a hall of fame QB having as bad a year as vince young i think favre will have a good year maybe pro bowl
Tannenbaum presser: Chad traded tomorrow.
good point about VINCE Young and i’m sure with his Experience FAVRE can top what VY was doing. Plus with the Revamped D and O -LINE we have to at least get a wild card
i hope we see chad traded tomorrow but i dont know what we could get for him 4th rounder?
Favre scheduled to make 12 mil this year, Jets are about 2 mil under right now before trade. With release of Chad that makes total of 8 mil under, still need 4 more, David Barrett anyone?
sackdance, i doubt chad will be traded…..seems a release is more likely
sub
how can a QB prove himself if not given the chance… and please, dont even say clemens was given a chance to win last year…as every1 in here stated at 1 time or another…no QB would have won behind the line we had last year…
prepare yourselves with alot of dropped passes…and int’s…
Good call Swizzle. Barrett is gone too.
Sackdance, I thought he said a “separate transaction for Chad,” did not specify and was asked about a trade and he said no. Unless im extremely tired cause its past my bedtime.
derp de derp de derp de derp de derp da da da do do do do doo doo da de derp da daddly derp a dee do
dakar- i feel you. ONce diffrence in that if we make the playoffs then it is all good. By the way, anyone that give me the ludicrous angle the clemens could grown from a year on the bench behind favre, you are crazy. Favre has gone on record in the past that he has zero intrest in being a tutor to youger players. Fact. Man, and the ridicuoluous post about being more exicted about favre 38 year old with one year to go coming to a team that he didnt want to go to, being more exiceted about this then the mets signing the best picture of the last 7 years in his prime. Man please ship me the drugs you are on, ill give you more then market value. Well at least we will get one or two more national games out of this.
nyjets.com is already selling #4 jerseys
definitely a great day to be a jet fan. hopefully the next “great day to be a jet fan” will be during the actual season, and not like it usually is..in the off season!
getting farve is a no-brainer. a good to mediocre favre, is better than clemens, or pennington..but I do love chad pennington as a player. I wish him nothing but the best.
sack
can you pull the stats on favre’s TD to int ratio…in the past 4 years…please…i know your a stats guy…can you do that for us…
http://www.jetsshop.com is down. Too much traffic! lol
espn just said Tannenbaum said pennington will be either traded or realeased by tomorrow
Dakar
2004 30 TDs 17 INTs 92.4 rating
2005 20 TDs 29 INTs 70.9 rating
2006 18 TDs 18 INTs 72.7 rating
2007 28 TDs 15 INTs 95.7 rating
i know http://www.jetsshop.com is not working haha
Good luck to Chad, wherever he ends up – no matter your opinion of the guy, nobody can ever say he didn’t give his all to this franchise mentally and physically.
can any1 pull favre’s stats for the past 4 years…
i would really like to know what every1 is so happy about…getting some1 in their prime is good news…getting some1 who doesn’t even want to play for you and is way past his prime isn’t…this will hurt us…
Where does Chad go now? Atlanta? Minnesota? Chicago? Are we going to cut him or trade him? Will he be an NFL starter next year?
Personally, I think we will just release him and he’ll sign with Chicago, maybe Minnesota. I think he has a better shot at starting in Chicago, but there may be more of an interest from Minnesota to be Tavaris Jackson’s competition in camp, and a veteran leader to look up to and learn from…
How will the Jets manage to trade CP when every team knows that he will be waived?
Anyway….we’ve got Favre!!!!!
YES!!! THANK YOU Jets orgainization! What a way to cap a perfect day. The first round draft pick will be so worth it. Billy Bob Brett to the rescue!! Having him on board with all the other dynamic players will make this one of the most enjoyable seasons in recent memory. Yee ha!!! Good luck Chad in hopefully Minnasota as that would be such a great fit for you and them. Win win for everybody.
vb thanx
96 TDs and 79 INTs…
he doesn’t seem to be a great player to me anymore… his 3 MVPs and superbowl win are way behind him…just my thoughts…
(1) Will (can) Favre learn the Jet’s plays or will the rest of the offense now have to learn the Green Bay plays?
Or will all the pass plays be, “Just try to get open anyway you can and I’ll hit you right on the numbers”?
(2) Will this trade crush the cap picture so much that other medium or high-priced talent will also have to be traded or cut? (Like Barrett.)
Is there any flexibility left?
Adam Schefter reports that the Jets will have to send three 1st round draft picks to the Packers if they re-trade Brett Favre to the Vikings
lololol
its seems like this blog is starting to die down…
Well the site crashed for like 10 mins.
dakar,
put 2005 in context…pro bowl LG Marco Rivera (now a Cowboys starter) was not re-signed and pro bowl RB, ahman green, was injured…chad didn’t do so well w/out kendall or without c-mart.
put 2007 in context. Kellen Clemens had no O-Line and no time ever in the pocket except for the end of the Baltimore game…
moyvore, bill callahan runs the same zone blocking scheme as the Pack and he was the Raiders OC under Gruden…so he knows the west coast
can’t belive it, can’t believe it !!!! i just woke up, what a surprise !!! J E T S jets jets jets
I feel for Chad – He was a true jet and a true pro – but that said the Jets had to take this shot in order to compete with N.E. and a rising Buffalo and carpetbagger Bill in the backround a few years away.
I have also been a season ticket holder since Shea and I was in Denver at the AFC championship game…
Lets Go Jets!!!!! Lets GO Bret!!!!
Maybe the stadium will for once be filled on opening day with no empty seats…
Don’ t be suprised if CP doesn’t end up in KC with Herm.
hard to put clemens’ season “in context” when he has no track record. favre had 15 other, non-losing seasons and 4 pro bowl seasons this decade. there’s a difference vb.
all right chad vs favre OUr saviour.
Chads career 1919 pass attempts
65.6 pct 82/55 td/int 7.2 yds att (big stat) 88.9 rating
favres last 1775 attempts (closest i could come with out doing his indivdiual games)
61.0 pct 66/62 TD/INT (AWESOME!!) 6.8 per att (Man this guy with the howitzer for an arm averages quite a bit less then chad)
about a 78 rating
No comparision . I mean chad couldnt stay healthy, so that is a big freakin knock agaisnt him. ALL i got to say is favre better start all 16 games and take us to the playoffs all else this is a bust
Karmajaxx…calm down. You are acting like your life depends on the outcome of this team. Stop being a B*tch and recognize that the Jets are trying to put a winning product on the field for YOU. Stop complaining and just be glad that the Jets have something to hope for the first time in many seasons.
Do you think they are up a bit late tonight in N.E. rethinking their game plan……. I guess they will have to loosen up that secondary a little bit.
Can anyone see Thomas Jones and Leon Washington smiling…
ugh, i’m sick. i can’t root for this guy. i was so excited for the jets this season…. this is like a rotten pickle in the jar…. and i love pickles!
Dakar such a Hater!! This is so awsome… I cant believe the Jets have Bret Favre.. Stop drinking all the Haterade!! You and every other hater on Bret Favre coming to the Jets… You all must have some pretty bad memories!
Does anybody remember that he lead his team to the NFC Championship Game last year?
4155 yards?
Remember that?
28 TDs to 15 INTs?
starting to come back?
95.7 passer rating.. #6 in the NFL?
Most plays over 40 yards??
Getting a little clearer?
BRET FREAKIN FAVRE!!!!
Whos talkin smack?
I’ll take Bret Favre over any QB on our roster! Period.
Then the young gun Clemens can learn from one of the best rocket armed QBs there ever was!
All Jet fans shold get behind this a come out loud behind the team on opening day….
I mean lets face it when was the last time the Jets website crashed because too many jet fans were excited and trying to get on it. It didn’t even do that when we got Parcells….
Forget Clemmons. Favre will lead us to serious contention with the solid team we FINALLY have until Ainge is ready. Exciting times
Yo james, tough guy. First of all, i am assuming that if you post on this blog, you are a fan. Settle down there buddy. My life doesnt depend on this team, i def love them thogh. ANd i believe that this is a bad move> You are clueless if this is the first time in many season that we had something to hope for. You are posting on a blog and it is 2 in the morning mr muscles. CHill out. Man, i have posted exactly one or two times ever before tonite. But i do enjoy my sundays watching the jets and know i think there future is comprimised.
You know all this time i havent even thought what this is going to do to our run game… We all know good our lines gonna look… Im so excited for this!!
Yo Karmajaxx… not to talk smack but it 2:30am and your posting also!!
I do see Favre as an upgrade over Chad. But I wasn’t ready to give up on KC yet. O well I guess we can draft another QB in 2 years or something when Favre is done. It’s been fun KC but management is done with you.
Karmajaxx…If you think the Jets ever had a chance with Chad Pennington over the past few seasons then you need to visit a doctor and get your head checked out. And I live in California you idiot, it’s 11:27 here…you’re the one up at 2:27 on a weeknight losing sleep when you should be thinking about your job (if you have one). Enjoy being in the minority of haters all year. I can’t wait for you to be chewing on your intestines when you realize how far your head is up your @ss.
the jets finally became an official ny team. mets spend money, yankees spend money, and now the jets spend money. I just hope they r relevant when it counts in december.
p.s. i remember the other day someone saying chad threw balls the recievers could catch and clemens threw them too hard. imagine how brett’s going to throw the ball. those recivers better hang on. no more cotton candy, straight rockets.
GO JETS GO!! I am a avid Packer fan and sad to see Brett go. Now I am no longer a Packer fan and a Jets fan. I cannot believe the way that Ted Thompson and Mark Murphy had treated Brett. He has brought everything to Green Bay and they just threw it out the window by trying to buy him off. I hope you fans will treat Brett good. I still cannot believe what they did to him and his family. Our next mission is to get rid of Thompson and Murphy. I wish the Packers played the Jets and I know the Packers will not make it to the Superbowl with Aaron…so good luck and be good to Brett….We will miss him dearly. We love you Brett…
johny styne, great post, “Free at last” no more rolaids or tums. No more covering my eyes and waiting for the TV fans reaction when Chad goes back to lob a ball downfield. Finally as Jet fans the word bullit comes back into our vocabulary… 6 years was a long drought.
karmajaxx, Neil O’Donnell… You mean the guy who choked and lost the SB,,,? O… I get it… obviously you like QB’s that choke under pressure. Brett 2005-2006… does the word rookies fit into your thought process. Half of his offense was rookies back then.
We just became a new team with a gunslinger… interceptions… the pros outweigh the cons.
Yea Jets don’t play the Packers in the regular season until 2014.
Rich g- i dont think dakar is talking smack- I am hardcore jets fan and i dont feel this trade. To summarize your views a little better. Let quckly break it down like this
2005- horrible
2006-horrible
2007 excellent
2008- first new team and offence in like 14 or 15 years.
You and james , if your still out there. BIte me you little bitch. FOr real. I post for the third time in my life , my life and you make freakin stupid comment like that. Man if youi dont have an opinioun on this matter as a jet fan then you are not a fan.
Glad to see most of you are excited, he will be missed here and you will have a heck of a lot of NEW supporters of the Jets here in WI thanks to our management! Good luck and KICK Patriot butt!!
karmajax…favre wins more, throws more TDs, and never misses games. favre’s a better qb…look at my earlier post
So What your telling me is you would rather have Chad pennington or Kellen Clemens over Bret Favre??
You need some serious profesional help…
I think im gonna have a brownie im so happy!
thank u god i hope the madden curse doesnt hurt us
so i guess chad is going 2 chief vikings, bears, and mayb even 49ers
Thank God!!!! finally I can root for the Jets and have a great QB to root for! Pennington.. great guy, but this is a truly great day to be a Jets fan!
karmajaxx
there excited for now…but when the INTs mount up and our defense is on the field all game…then come back in here and see what are fellow bloggers are saying…becuz as far as i remember every1 was worried about KC throwing INTs in PRACTICE…well we all know favre throws alot of them in games…not to mention he probably came out of retirement becuz he didn’t want to be remembered for throwing that INT to end his career in a championship game no less…i guess it was pricking his conscience…so here we are now…the egotistical arrogant came out of retirement and is gonna play for the team he had to be he didn’t want to come to but was persuaded to play for…just my thoughts…
Dakar- trust me , i hope you and me are very wrong. I just really dont feel this move right now. Yo, and james. Seriously eat my ass you prick. I have no problem with rich g questionng my sanity, but for your to question my priorities in life cause i am posting about this, then why are you here. This is the biggest jet news in a decade weather we like it or not. You self righteous peice of trash.
karm
i agree with you…its not like i want him or this deal to be a failure…it just doesn’t feel like a good move to me…but lets see how it all works out…
Wow. I’m a lifelong Jet fan who ALMOST became a Giant fan after sitting with my 8 year old daughter during the Super Bowl and watching Tyre catch that ball on his head. Tears came to my eyes. It was in my Mom’s living room. The same room I grew up in. The same room where I, as a 6 year old, watched a B&W image of Joe Namath and the ‘68 Jets beat the Colts. I remember asking my Dad why he liked the Jets so much. “Because they’re underdogs. I always root for the underdogs.” It’s really the only reason I still watch sports. It’s what connects the ‘07 Giants to the ‘68 Jets. They were both huge underdogs. It’s why I’ve remained a Jets fan all these years. They’ve almost always been underdogs. Now they won’t be. I honestly don’t know what I’m gonna’ do now.
I know all you tough guy jet fans are gonna’ call me soft. You’re gonna’ say you’re tired of being the underdogs. I don’t blame you. And I really wish the Jets well. But I can’t escape the notion that this move is somewhat desperate. To hire a man who just retired a few months ago. I just don’t know. I think this is where I get off the bus. Good luck Jet fans.
PS – Maybe now you’ll all stop asking chicks to flash their boobs in the walkways and watch the freakin’ game! PLEASE!!! (I say this as a father of two young girls. One of whom is a football fan now. Serioulsy Jet fans. Those who know who you are. You’ve got a hall of fame QB now. Start showing some class.)
Sorry for the long post.
1 more thing…i guess as long as its brett favre throwing an INT. it’ll be ok…after all he’s brett favre…
Years from now we will tell our grandchildren exactly where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news that the Jets finally dumped Chad Pennington –
YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hmm. favre to the jets. i shall express my reaction by haiku:
I did not want you
But now that you’re on my team
I will root for you.
and
We gave up too much
Second rounder for playoffs?
Sells the PSL’s
JETS JETS JETS Brett here ,Chad gone. Gonna be a good year!!YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
(Repost for those just waking up)
GOODBYE CHAD
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8381934/Favre-out:-Packers-trade-legend-to-Jets
Good Riddance, Chad — You will never get another chance to cripple any more of our skill players –
FREE AT LAST FREE AT LAST THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST
johnny, it wasn’t so good the first time around that there was any need to post it a second time, let alone in the same comment section.
Whoever does not like this trade has no clue of the pain of being a Jet fan. Are u kidding me? They are getting one of the greatest all time QBs to ever play the game for, realistically, a 2nd to 3rd round pick. The fact that they give up a 1st rounder for the Super Bowl tells me there in this year to go for it. This puts the Jets on the map as a landing spot for future FAs. And if he does succeed here, i could see him being here the next 2-3 years if he wants. I do feel for Chad because i was a big fan but this is gonna be a big day for the Jets as an organization. The FO has done a fantastic job of building a winning team!! This is a risk free trade. If he isnt the same guy as last year, the most we lose is a 3rd rounder!
And also about the 2 slow years Brett had, Those Packer teams had no weapons or a running game. Ryan Grant and the emergence of Greg Jennings was a big contributor to Favre. Now he has a solid O-Line, TJ, Leon, Coles, Cotchery, and Keller. plus Baker and Franks. This is a solid team for him to play for. A QB can only succeed with what he has around him. Favre was partially not at fault for those struggling teams!
My brother called me this morning when he heard the news. He used to be the craziest Jet Fan. We had season tickets and even traveled to many away games. But he has really been down on the Chad era and hasn’t been into the Jets for some time. I answered the phone, he told me Brett was now a Jet, and he said, “I’m back, we’re going to the Super Bowl!”. It’s a good day.
And while I don’t think we should treat Chad poorly on his way out, I agree with Johnny S that Chad’s “style of play” has gotten some of the other players hurt.
I’m trying to get excited about this. I think he only makes the Jets two wins better. With their tough schedule thats probably around 9 wins.
Frank,
“Whoever does not like this trade has no clue of the pain of being a Jet fan.”
That’s just a dumb statement. it will be explained…
“Are u kidding me? They are getting one of the greatest all time QBs to ever play the game for, realistically, a 2nd to 3rd round pick.”
Yes, and they’re getting him as he’s about to turn 39 and is likely to play only 1 season for them, with perhaps 3 or 4 games very badly as he only knows a quarter of the playbook early in the year.
“The fact that they give up a 1st rounder for the Super Bowl tells me there in this year to go for it.”
don’t dwell on the 1st round/superbowl thing. it’s probably not going to happen. this guy might get us to 10 wins, and there’s a ton of great teams in the afc.
“This puts the Jets on the map as a landing spot for future FAs.”
yeah, good point. they haven’t had any success signing free agents lately. what the hell are you talking about?
“And if he does succeed here, i could see him being here the next 2-3 years if he wants.”
So, this guy who didn’t want to be here in the first place – you see him not only playing out this contract, but you see him RESIGNING with the jets, and playing till he’s 42. here. where he never wanted to be.
“This is a risk free trade. If he isnt the same guy as last year, the most we lose is a 3rd rounder!”
third rounders are valuable picks. just because you don’t know the guys name when the pick is made doesn’t mean they don’t develop into great players. Look at how the jets have done in the 4th round lately.
actually, i spoke with Chris Mortenson, and he said the real reason why the Packers traded Favre was because he is on the Madden 2009 cover and they believe in the jinx.
He is just gonna make are wr better
brandon….. do u think the packers WR’s are so much better then the jets?? there is plenty of talent for favre to win here….and he is quite familiar with one of our tight ends.
we would be the most moronic franchise in the history of sports if we didnt do this deal!!!!
yeah he is 39…but last time i checked he had a pretty good year last year!!!!! and hello?? vinny was pretty old when he kicked ass for us.
yes there is a risk….but jesus people…this is a no brainer for at most a 2nd round pick.
and he will play 2 years minimum…..the guy has a HUUUUGE chip on his shoulder….and loves the game.
wait until he hears the ny crowd!!!!!!!
You can all expect the unveiling of the new PSLs immediately following Brett’s press announcement.
As for the trade… awesome, a no brainer… a conditional pick, most likely a second rounder for Favre. The haters can detract from Favre, but you can’t deny this is an upgrade for us.
I love Chad, but we needed to turn the page and Clemens isn’t there yet.
Welcome to where you should have been all along, Brett.
Another thing… a f-ng second rounder, jet fans We’ve done a lot worse with our second rounders… Doug Jolley.
How can you not be f-ing excited?
I can’t f-ing stop cursing, I’m that excited.
seriously guys, i rocked for you. when i was 35 years old. and when I was 39…hmm…what happened…
oh yeah, that’s when Chad took over. Interesting.
And thanks for using me in your argument, klecko71. I had been feeling pretty irrelevant.
And one more thing, it is nice to know that we have a guy who will start every game. Do we have any stats for how he does after those 4-int games? Cuz I’m sure he will have at least 3 of them, but whatever. They will be spectacular ints, down the other teams gullet…instead of a pick-6 duck.
Although, I thought that Chad could still get us into the playoffs, Favre has the ability to take us farther and to do it with authority. It is a shame that we are getting him at the end of his career. This will not be an easy transition, him coming over so close to the start of the season, with so much to learn. I feel that management did this, to make it easier to sell their PSL’s. As a Jet fan, I want him to come in here and torch the Patriot secondary. And as a Jet fan, I just hope we keep him healthy, until we get to that game. I wish Chad the best, as he is one of the brightest and classiest professionals that have come through New York. It is now the “Brett Favre Era” – for as long as it lasts. Go Jets!
I just crapped my pants.
DanC, on the jets website, I’m pretty sure they are now selling #4 NY Jet diapers…. I need one too
Johnny Styne and SackDance99…two words for ya…Madden cover! All the best to you Chad, whatever happens to you in the future, I’m gonna miss you!
Favre isn’t the only one needing to learn a new playbook. The playbook is going to be rewritten.
Harvlis, glad to see your support of Brett. If Chad had been named starter, I would’ve done the same for him, even thought hat’s not the direction I wanted. It is very amazing if you think about it, with the Giants coming off a SB win, the Jets are the bigger story in NY. Also interesting, this season is the 40th anniversary of the SB season. How great would it be to see Namath on the podium with Favre holding up the Lombardi trophy. That’s what this trade does, it gives the Jets a ton of hope for success. Even if it doesn’t work out, I stand behind the FO decision to do it. Just like on the field, I much rather attack and be aggressive than play it safe.
my bad, we traded a first rounder for Jolley… I was trying to block that from my memory. But still… most likely a second rounder… hell, we gave a second rounder for McCareins…. Much better trade than those two.
Even if it turns out a third round pick and we miss the playoffs, it will have been worth it not to endure the frustration of watching Pennington or Clemens and wondering who is the lesser of two evils.
Get your popcorn ready!!!!
This is going to be a great year with a ton of potential. Brett Favre is the man.
Yeah! This is great! Just like when Michael Jordan came out of retirement and went to the Wizards. Remember all the championships the Wizards won? They were awesome! Jordan will always be remembered as a Wizard. Right? And Farve will always be remembered s a Jet.
Oh, and pigs can fly.
I’m a Jets fan/season ticket holder. I’m glad the Jets may have ONE good season with Favre, but if the team who knows him and worship(ped) him for many years doesn’t want him, why do we? We are the kings of getting has been’s like Boomer and Testaverde. They were great guys and brought the team some good times for sure, but they were not the foundation of any type of dynasty. What we need is a young QB to build a team on. Personally I think this is all going on at such interesting timing – on the heels of the Jets announcing their intent to gouge the fans with PSL’s in the new stadium. Yeah, I think that definitely has something to do with it. They want us to feel this move will justify the team raking its loyal fans over the coals with exorbitant seat licenses. Well it doesn’t. It’s just about pure greed and choosing to favor the super rich and leave the rest of us in the dust.
John, welcome to twenty-first century sports. I wanted to take my girlfriend to a Mets game two weeks from now against the Braves (the 4th place out of 5 Braves) and found that the UPPER DECK seats were $25 a pop. Seriously? I used to get those seats for $5-$10 only a few years ago…
I know, James, it just pisses me off. These tix have been in my family since 1975. With the PSL’s that’ll be the end of it. But look at the Patriots – they built a new stadium without any licenses! So I’m sorry but it doesn’t have to be that way. Do you know how much advertising revenue they get? Not to mention 2 teams’ revenue not just one! Welcome to 21st Century greed is more like it.
Pete,
If Favre lights up New England, after smoking the fish, I’ll buy the jersey.
I’ll miss Chad but, after winning the division, I think i’ll be able to deal with the loss. Right now, I am trying to figure out how many yards Dustin Keller will have, when the year is over. Favre’s downfield threat will allow Leon Washington to become the All-Pro that we all know he is. When Favre starts to work with his Offensive weapons, I think he will be pleasantly surprised.
I didn’t think that this would ever happen but, now that it did, the season couldn’t get here fast enough. Eli who?
Watch & See, Jet Favre will have a Broadway Joe Finish. We were a 10 win team the year before last & with all these new additions, plus Favre, we are in the ball game now.
He will play 2 more years & win the Super Bowl before retiring. Seriously!
J _ E _ T _ S
JETS JETS, JETS!!!
JETS UNIFORM ON THE MADDEN COVER??????????
Gee I wonder why Herm Edwards hasn’t snatched up Chad…. I mean to quote ” Chads the QB of the future.” Well the future is now and you benched Vinny for this bum so Why don’t you whant him you askhole.
sorry… want him now you askhole
Having Chad as “the” qb was like a stripper I was once dating… You knew she was going to dump on you , you just didn’t know when.”Free… at last”
