Links: I Got Favre On It!
Time for your daily Favre link fix…
ESPN’s AFC East blog has plenty of coverage of Favre’s first day at Jets camp. The reviews are in:
Favre looked tentative, even awkward on some plays. He looked ordinary.
Dan Pompei from the Chicago Tribune doesn’t think much to the Jets and calls the outlook “bleak”
This classic youtube video gives a decent insight into Brett’s character. He certainly is entertaining when he wears a wire.
Speaking of the Wire, Baltimore Sun writer David Steele gives his sixteen “final” thoughts on the Favre “saga”.
In an article from last week, that is even more relevant now, Sportingo.com laments that the Favre story is wrongly stealing the headlines away from Olympians. Come on guys, get behind the Olympic team… USA! USA! USA! (er, and go “Great” Britain!)
Interesting article in the Seattle Times with what seems to be a gaping hole in it. He says there are no winners: Favre didn’t win, the Packers didn’t win and the general public didn’t win. Ummm…hello? Maybe you think the Jets didn’t win either, but you could at least mention why.
And finally, Newsday reports Favre’s respectful compliments about Chad, who he has never beaten:
“So what?” Favre said of Pennington’s knock as a weak-armed passer. “I can throw it through a wall, but I don’t win every game I’ve ever played in. He’s very effective. I haven’t seen one person say anything negative about him. He’s a high-character guy. A lot of class. I’d just like to beat him.”
I hope you appreciate me scouring the net for these links, which were about as hard to find as a needle in…umm, a needle factory.

Any national disfavor about Favre’s move from the Packers to the Jets and the media saturation in covering it is simply not relevant to the fact that we have replaced a quarterback who could not win a Championship this season with one who absolutely can — That is the only thing that should be on the minds of Jets fans — All that other stuff is for others to think about on their front porch in Peoria — Don’t sweat it –
Agreed. And Laveranues needs to get his head out of his you-know-what. There was no problem with him leaving Chad for a $13M signing bonus in 2003 after a great run in 2002 but now the team isn’t allowed to upgrade the position. I know he’ll play hard when the bell rings and I’ve always liked him and respected his toughness but he needs to stop the nonsense. It’s tiring.
Sour grapes for Dan Pompei. I guess I would have a sour disposition too if my starting QBs were Orton or Grossman.
Whether Favre works out or not, at least we are not that bad off. I don’t know which would be worse. Having those two as my choice for QB or being stuck with a head coach who is happy with that choice.

Why are we surprised? Jet haters in the media are a dime a dozen! The majority of the public dislike the Jets for some reason or another. True Fans take this like a badge of courage. Well, hopefully now it’s time to change our image, as we all know Winning Cures all ills. Just ask the Pats. As much as I despise them, they went from perrenial losers to dynasty. Gotta love the NFL for that.
you never ever ever ever let your division rivals get your leader EVER…..we are going to pay dearly for this mark my words..penningtons revenge 2008? just like our jets they do 1 thing tremendously teriffic and go and do the next thing like a bonehead…AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
johnl….
rhodes and revis are gonna have field day with chad…. we just gotta control ricky he looked good in his first preseason game…..
and oh yea do the fins even have a defense anymore?
and once again i by no means am wishing injuries on chad but lets be realistic if we can get a few clean hits on him….. chances are he is going to have to come out of the game….
Just did a search to double check a figure on Pennington’s stats and he came up as QB of the Miami Dolphins. Weird.
Anyway, these guys have to put out some kind of Favre opinion to feel relevant and negative stories make them feel smarter and more critical.
My take is that there are certainly a lot of question marks about Favre’s age, conditioning, ability to learn the offense in a short period of time, etc., but there were just as many question marks about the QB position without him.
The upside is big enough to take the chance.
oh and i forgot lowery looked great and he clearly needs to develop but i really think this kid has a bright future….
does anyone kno if harris will get the start on saturday?
i think harris will be spliting time …….what i fear most is the play action pass with ricky williams …..also i just seen a photo of chad in a dolphins uniform and he’s devilshly smilling YIKES!!!! espn ( nfl)
Just as well u mentioned GREAT Britian !!
Is it just me? Or does anyone find the following interesting too..
1) the jets have two Bretts at QB, and the Dolphins have two Chads..
2)The Jets FO office was quick to do what the Packers FO could not: give CP his unconditional release and allow him to play for a divisional opponent.
3)”Experts” kept saying that spendin $140 Mil was a desparation move that would amount to nuthin’ because of our QB situation…are now saying the Favre trade reeks of more desparation…and will not garrantee anything…(geez, just no pleasing these guys, huh?)
4) As a 35 year JETS fan, I’ve have never seen an off-season like this! And PSLs are coming too! Coincidence??? I think not!!
its all about the money ….always has been always will
favre just ran his first penalty lap ……HEY HE BROKE HIS CHERRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just another thought….
Could the Madden Curse be that Favre has to play the season as a NY Jet? If so, then, it is all up-hill from here! YES!!
I know we signed quite a bit of talent but I’ve never seen so much come out of the woodwork like this offseason. Ratliff, Clowney, Murrell, Cummings, can all be decent role players this year.
Better he broke his cherry than something more vital!
Seriously, there are so many haters out there taking pot shots at the Jets. All I keep hearing is “4-12 last year; no chance in the AFC; just looking to steal headlines from the Giants; etc.” Do these people watch the NFL? Do they not see that things change year to year in the blink of an eye? Did they watch the Giants run last year? Hell, nobody mentions that the Jets were 10-6 the year before they went 4-12. And for the Giants comments, do people really think the Jets wouldn’t have made this move if the Giants didn’t win the SB last year? Such idiocy. Jet fans try to ignore the haters who should be worried about their own team (see: Bears).
i really appreciate what you did for getting all this news BENT
actually the jets won even they dont make the playoffs because they get all this media attention
yea who can say anything bad about pennington and whoevers uses his weak arm as an excuse for him not being a good QB he is a hater , if CP had atleast and avg. arm we would see a SB that is how good he is
oh and the olympics arent really all that great now that it involves politics but i loved it during the cold war when it was us against russia and besides america should destroy anyone in basketball and that isnt cool
Favre just gives the writers something to write about and stir up some controversy. Although I really do think some writers can stand the Jets for some reason. Its funny that Pompei has to write and cover the Bears QB situation mess for the past decade, haha.
Its really annoying how people forget how bad we were last year, what did they expect tangini to do? let the team stay as pathetic as it was last year? no, we went out and made the moves we needed to do, so we could have the right personel in order to be successful this year and beat the patriots. I am very excited for this season not to mention how easy our scheduale is too, we could easily go 11-5
cody
before favre i was looking at 10-6 —11-5…now that we have favre we should go 11-5 13-3…becuz he is brett favre…anything less i would consider the season a failure…just my thoughts…
You can’t guess a record before the year starts, this is the NFL. For all you know Miami or the Rams are going to win the Lombardi.
I have been the biggest hater of this move since before it happened, mostly because I really liked Chad.
But Brett, by praising Chad, has made it a little easier to come around. He’ll still need a few magic moments for me to start experiencing any type of Brett mania syndrom, but he’s doing things right so far.
Favre is saying things that make sense though. Chad has won in the league due to his smarts, and even though i think in Miami hes gonna get his head knocked off, i think he can give miami 3 extra wins in close games. Thatl make them like 5-11. lol.
But you see how Favre is addressing every question in an honest manner and not flinching to the media? good, positive answers. I dont like that he didnt promise another year, but why should he? we knew this all along. Hes trying to put out the fire.
The prefabricated answers athletes give are more boring than Mangini’s press conferences. I’m with you on this one Vinny.
The clipping on newyorkjets.com is making me really sad. They are all the same BS! Over and over again! Coverage of Farve has robbed us of the preseason analysis. I want to be reading about the position battles and who’s on the bubble. Anyone read Peter Kings MMQB where he refers to Marty Schottenhimer’s son as Mike McCarthy? All I have to say is thank god for this site or I’d be screwed!
It is just like Brett to say nice things about Pennington. I have never heard him say negative things about his opponents, which is why he is so popular with his fellow players. It is amazing to watch him before and after games when he is mobbed by the opposing team. I do not know what will happen to the Jets this year, but I just don’t see how they could be worse off having Brett with them. He is sorely missed by his loyal Packer fans. He is too truthful, which is why he got into the retirement mess in the first place.
