Notes: 8/13 Morning Practice

Here’s what the press is writing about today as notes from practice.

JOURNAL NEWS REPORT
Highlights include …

* Favre threw another interception to Abram Elam, which he said after practice was a communication issue.
* Brad Smith caught a long 45 yard pass from Favre which he added 5 yards to with his YAC
* Favre made a point of working with Coles in side sessions and even related his converation with Coles “I’m not here to take Chad’s spot or replace him …Whatever you had with Chad, may that continue.’” (Actually, he DID take Chad’s spot and replace him, but we know Favre meant it figuratively.)
* Favre noted that his arm is ‘fatigued’ from throwing.

DAILY NEWS
* Shaun Ellis is still nursing a broken hand that he broke last week.  Don’t expect to see him play this weekend against the Skins.  UDFA Mike DeVito has come a long way in a year since playing for the University of Maine, and looks to be the #3 DE as he’s now taking first team snaps with Ellis sidelined.
*KC and his Sunshine Band are still taking second team snaps, expect him to be the #2 against the Skins.

OTHER NOTES ON THE INTRAWEBS
* David Clowney collapsed at one point, might be overheating or something along those lines as they were applying wet towels to his head.
* David Harris is practicing again.  No word on how well
* People liked the way D’Brickashaw Ferguson was practicing and how he had a great block on Vernon Gholston.

  1. Also, what wasn’t mentioned was Clowney’s possibly serious hand injury.

well i think stuckey might use that injury to get ahead of him

oh and favre is also kind of classy he wants the jets to win coles nee dt oget over this fast cuase we play redskins on saturday

  3. Nice move by Favre trying to calm LC down. He probably wants to choke him and tell him to grow up already like most Jets fans do…..Maybe LC will feel better when he is not laid out crossing the middle a dozen times a year like Chad did to him

  4. We were out there this morning and I have to say, Favre did not look good at all.

I was a huge supporter of him coming in and will remain that way despite the outcome. I loved the trade, still love it and will even if we duplicate 4-12 this year. I hope for a whole lot more but the past few days have brought me down to earth on the expectations.

I still think we have catapulted into the AFC top 6, so playoffs should be there but I think we’re closing to 9 wins than we are to 11.

The catch by Elam was spectacular, so I won’t pin much of that on Favre but overall #4 looks too sluggish. I understand age, just back, etc etc etc. but I’d just expect more fire from this guy. When push comes to shove, it’s only Sundays that matter- so let’s hope he still has some magic left.

The other reasons for my diminishing outlook is the defense. Gholston looks soft against the better lineman and overall I’m concered about the D-Line. Our O-Line looks much improved, so maybe they are making the defense look a little worse but the ends are getting no push and I think too much was made early of Jenkins- he doesn’t look like an anchor who can make this defense superb.

Harris and Barton have looked good but Pace/Gholston need to work on the pass coverage and really develop an explosive move to get through elite lineman.

Although sitll very positive, today did disappoint.

  5. Well the Jets are giving Favre tons of snaps to get him up to speed with the offense. So this should not be a huge surprise or concern that his arm is tired. He just needs a little rest like all of us. I heard he might be held out of Saturday’s game vs the Redskins because of this.

  6. His arm is probably tired since he hasnt practiced for like 7 months. Hopefully he’ll get up to speed. Hopefully he plays some sanps this Saturday.

  7. hey “FINN” i thought RATLIFF was getting all the snaps with the 2nd team!!?? read the last line under DAILY NEWS…stick to the FISH and leave JETS talk to US J-E-T-S FANS! lol

  8. Without the D-line push, you’re going to have to rely on the secondary to stay with their guys. Early on that might do, but overall we’re going to need that push. Hopefully, we see evidence of it this Saturday.

  9. This is the pre-season. Do you think Brett Favre is going to be a rah-rah guy at Hofstra, because you attended the practice. Same, in regards to the d-linemen. Have patience. Once you see everybody in the Miami game, your opinions will change. By the way, although Clowney had a phenom Brown game, Stuckey is our slot receiver.

  10. Harvlis
I agree with you about Farve in regards to being a rah rah guy in the preseason. After seeing the first preseason game I must admit I’m concerned about the D-line.

  11. I don’t need to him to carry around pom poms but a smile could help…

  12. Farve makes his first start as a Jet and I’m working. They better show it again. I watched the first preseason game 3 times. I’m desperate for Jets football.
