Jerricho Cotchery spoke to the press today about the offense, playing with Favre this weekend and inching closer to the regular season.
On if QB Brett Favre will create more options for the offense…
We have a lot of weapons on offense. When you have a guy that can pressure the defense like he (Favre) can and threaten an entire defense, then a lot of our options are available on any given play.
On receivers finishing their routes…
When you have a guy that can pressure the defense in many ways, you know that every route is available. Every route is available on the field. There are no clear-out routes. Whatever route you have, you better run it hard because the ball could be coming. If you’re not looking, you may get hit in the head with it. Every route is available and that can only help our offense.
On if he is looking forward to getting one game closer to the regular season…
We’re just trying to take advantage of this practice time that we have in training camp and gain chemistry throughout our offense. Hopefully, we can develop something special on offense and put points on the board. We have a good defense, but any time you can keep the chains moving and put points on the board, it can only help out your defense.
On playing a preseason with Favre…
We’re excited. We’re just excited about another opportunity to get out here, each and every day to work hard for the season. We’re just trying to see what this offense is going to be like for this season and what this team is going to be like.
On if there is a certain anticipation to see Favre under center…
We’re excited to see what it looks like during a real game. We have to gain that chemistry on offense and work through some things on the practice field. We have to take care of that first. We’re excited as an offense, but we’re going to take it one day at a time – getting better each and every day, keeping that same approach. If we do that then we can become what we want to become.

I think Cotch has got to be pretty darn excited. I wouldn’t be surprised if he develops chemistry with Favre quickly, and emerges as our #1 before long. He must be thanking God he won’t get crushed immediately after every pass (still love you Chad…) this year.
-
Seems that the offense as a whole clearly understands the many ways Favre makes the O much more dangerous. Can’t wait for the season to start.
-
Which routes are available on the field, Cotch?
That is the one point all the players keep mentioning, offense and defense. The entire field is in play now. It is actually remarkable how effective Chad actually was considering how the defenses played him.
-
I just hope they get used to catching Brett’s passes. Tip passes can turn into interceptions. They need to turn quickly and look for smoke compare to a feather. Not an easy transition. Finally we can go long. I would be excited also. I am….
-
cotchery + favre = probowl and 1300 yds and 10 tds together
-
its still up to the D to live up to the hype. if we still cant stop the run in the 3-4 this year we are in trouble.
ricky goes for 140 and 2 td’s week 1….and its a looonnnnng monday morning in new york.
i will be there in person watching it all unfold….with many jet fans i am sure.
-
does any1 know if the rankings have been updated…becuz i would like to know why were ranked so low and how oakland who won 19 games since 2002 is ranked higher than us…
-
Cotchery will drop at least 4 TDs this year. He thinks that he will be getting Chad’s catchable balls, instead he will have to catch balls with erratic speed. To catch Favre’s fast-balls you have to practice for at least a year.
-
apparently you would know nikolas?
you play with favre before?
these receivers are professional atheletes and havent played with chad all their lives…
they will adapt
-
I agree with Ed L on that one. Will there be some dropped passes this season because of Favre’s arm? I would think so, but on the whole they will make the catches this season. After all Justin McCareins is gone.
-
Ed L..
I do! These receivers and Fvare do not have time to adapt.. and more important Favre does not have to many throws on his arm! He cannot even practice.Read …the…news….get the facts……
-
get the facts
what facts
Farve stretches the feild and will improve the play of all our players. -
nik
i was also against the trade…but just like me you will just have to accept it and move on…cheer for favre and the jets in a whole…and come september we’ll know if we made the right choice…because chad will have a running game and his play action is 1 of the best in the league…and if his line is any good…he’ll just dink and dunk us and everybodyelse to death…but we’ll have the deep ball which i’ve been wanting forever…
-
another fact
Chad has been hurt almost every year he has played.
Favre started 253 consecitive games.
Favre will last longer than Chad this year. At least that is what the facts indicate. -
Chad’s gone. It’s hopeless. Favre’s arm is going to fall off on the first play. That’s if he even agrees to his coach’s request to enter the game and huddle up. He’s so selfish and uncoachable that’s not a given. He only throws interceptions, anyway. Many stats show he throws 72 interceptions for every completion. Most for touchdowns. Chad completes every pass. Why even suit up without Chad? why not just forfeit the whole season now before people get hurt? The record books say the Jets played for decades before Chad came but that’s got to be a mistake. How could they?
-
Dakar and Pat D..
I call your response cheerleading, which is fine… but I do not root for Tannebaum.Favre will not strech any field. His arm gets easily fatigued, he is almost 39 years old ,and he does not have enough amunition even to practice.
Now if you ask what facts..go and read the News.. Favre himself said to reporters that he is 39 and his arm gets fatigued and…..he needs of course rest.
So when will Cotchery get the 100 balls and the 1,200 yards and 100 TDs. Get real -
PS: What is even more rediculus is that now some of you who were for KC over Chad, you are looking to cannibalize on KC!!
-
nik
i agree with everything you said its just time to move on…and im just saying accept the change…it can’t be undone… the sooner you accept it the better off you will be…believe me bro…i didn’t want favre…i wanted KC to get a chance…but thats not gonna happen…let it go…and get ready for the season and wish that this trade works out for the best…i am as well as every1 else…just my thoughts…
-
I was never for KC over Chad.
This is Farve’s first week of practice.
As far as Farve’s age can you spell Warren Moon. -
pat
wether or not you were for KC is besides the point…the point was to accept the change…but let me say this 1 more time…if it weren’t for those dropped passes KC would have had a 5-2 or 6-1 record…and there will be alot of dropped passes and INTs…so get ready for them…just my thoughts…
-
I have criticised Mangini in the past for trying to force players to play in situations that don’t fit their game. Last year Chad sucked because he was playing injured. Mangini then pulled Chad in favor of KC never mentioning the injury. The impression that was given is that Chad was just not playing well. Mangini does not discuss injuries to the press because he doesn’t want to give an advantage to the other team. This is not always fair to the player. But you won’t hear Chad complain because he was all class.
But this does not change the fact that Farve is a better QB.
-
Dakar…I accept your position. You stand for something and that is enough for me. However, I simply disagree with you on what we root for this season.
I am in a very difficult position. I want to root for the Jets, and I have nothing against Favre, but I can not root for this FO.
In my opinion, they do not know what they are doing and the faster they are gone the better it is for us the Fans. I can wait another one-two years till it becomes clearly obvious to everyone ,with an interest in this team, that they must go. It took Isaiah Thomas two years to run out of excuses.. I think it will take less for these people.
-
If it wasn’t for Chad’s injuries he would be in the HOF when he retires.
So KC’s only problem was dropped balls.
KC looked terrible in the pocket.
I was never for KC over Chad is not beside the point when I’m being called rediculous for something that I never did. -
Comparing this FO and the Jets to Isaiah Thomas and the Knicks is a bit premature.
-
Any way this post was about JC. our number 1 wide receiver from last year. NYTitan you are right. Jc will be our no. 1 receiver this year too.
-
I watched the morning practice, and if Brett has a tired arm, then the Jets will be O.K. He made some long, accurate throws that were right on the money and were well received by the fans.
The trade is done, might as well support Favre and enjoy the season. I loved Chad and wish him well, but he just could not make some of the throws Brett can.
It’s going to be a good season.
Come on Nikolas, jump on the band wagon, drink the Kool-Aid, you know you want to…………… -
pat
being terrible in the pocket doesn’t change the fact that we lost those games because of those dropped passes and not because of KC’S POCKET PRESENCE…and i didn’t call you ridiculous…and not to mention he had no line…so if the pocket collasped as soon as he said hut who in your mind would have pocket presence if there isn’t a pocket to have presence in…again KC was givien a bad rap for being thrown into the worst position…he had absoloutly no help…he simply wasn’t given a chance or the right position to win…not with the team we had last year…just my thoughts…
-
dakar you did not call me ridiculous. I was responding to Nikolas when I wrote that.
No game is lost because of one dropped pass. No game is lost because of one play period. Even if it is the last play of the game. Maybe if some plays were made earlier in the game the team wouldn’t be in the position of make the play now or lose. Maybe if KC showed some pocket he would have made some plays. -
KC was not given a bad rap. He was the worst rated QB in football last year. He lost the QB competition to Chad. And he will not be a Jet much longer.
-
Just to comment on the comparison between the Knicks and Jets…there is no comparison! Zero! Zilch! Nada!
The Jets would have to be cap strangled for 10 years for there to be anything close to a resemblance and even then the Jets would have to hire then fire 2 Hall of Fame coaches to approach the mindlessness.
I can’t keep repeating this poster’s name but let him think he’s right and just ignore the garbage PLEASE!
