Jets Tried For John Lynch

by Bassett on August 19th, 2008 at 8:12 am

Rich Cimini notes today that the Jets tried to make a play for John Lynch, but lost out to the Patriots who signed the future Hall of Famer.

“[Tannenbaum] was in the hunt for former Pro Bowl S John Lynch, according to multiple reports. Lynch signed last week with the Patriots. The Jets got CB David Barrett to take a $1.4 million pay cut, in part, to create cap room for Lynch. …”

Credit to the Jets for trying to get Lynch in town, and it would definitely have bolstered a surging secondary even more.  With Barrett’s cap number lowered, I guess this means that the Jets will be planning on keeping Barrett around for the season.

If Lynch wouldn’t come when Edwards was the coach, why would he come now?

    Screw Lynch…he’s done anyway.

Lynch’s best days at safety are behind him. He is rumored to be playing LB with Patsies. So I am just as happy not to have this guy on the team.

Why would we want Barrett to stay here

Glad that didn’t work out. Lynch has no range and isn’t even a great tackler anymore.

on barrett, i don’t know if it’s so much about barrett, but rather sounds like it’s more of an indictment on Justin Miller …

Barrett is not as bad as everyone thinks. Lowery will start and Barrett provides good depth in case of injuries.

I thought the Pats wanted to get younger in their ‘backing and d-back core?

If Jerrod Mayo isn’t a stud they’re in srs trouble!

Who needs Lynch? Better off without him. We have enough safties. He’s not even godfather to Mangini’s kid.

I’m glad the patriots cut him. I wouldn’t mind seeing him become a Jet if they pursue him but he should’ve stayed in Denver or joined Warren Sapp as an NFL analyst on the NFL network. . I’m a big John Lynch fan. I have over 20 Broncos Lynch jersey’s and an autographed helmet which cost me a lot of dough. But….he screwed up, and since he left my beloved Denver Broncos…oh well? Bronco John in Northern California.
