Three days ago, we reported that National Football Post‘s Mike Lombardi had word that that former Jets Special Teams Coach Mike Westhoff, who had left the team for medical reasons, has agreed to come back back to coach the team once again in some capacity.
This story is now getting triangulation as the NY Post reports today.
The Jets somewhat confirmed a report that Westhoff, who stepped away from the job after last season to tend to his health, is going to rejoin the team.
One high-ranking Jets official said last night that Eric Mangini “loves” Westhoff, but the source indicated that Westhoff hasn’t yet officially been cleared medically to coach again.
Another Jets official emphasized that Kevin O’Dea, who was hired to replace Westhoff, will not be fired. If Westhoff returns, O’Dea surely will be reassigned and work with Westhoff.
Somewhat confirmed? Not sure what that means, but OK. Eric Mangini isn’t the only one that loves Westhoff … if we could we’d send him Valentines.
I would guess what is meant is that the team and Westhoff are in agreement, but that it’s the doctors that have get to sign off. I’m not sure what Kevin O’Dea’s reassignment would be (or for how long he would be reassigned before getting pushed out) but it would likely be in working with punter Ben Graham who’s had good things to say about O’Dea to his press back home as a “punting specialist.”

Westhoff is the best. Welcome back.

Great news. Is this season coming together?
-
i dont know if any of you saw this, or care, but Osi Umenyiora is reportedly out for the season
-
also westhoff coming back is great news cause the kick and punt returns havent been as good as were used 2

todd
yea i saw it looks like D brick really knocked him out
-
D’Brick barely touched him. Osi seemed to get caught in the ground. HUGE loss for the Giants. Probably the most valuable player on that team. Yes over Eli.

vbsiena24,
if not for a 6 sack performance against phili, osi would have had a pretty average season last year. Im friends with a sickening amount of giant fans and all of them would say eli is more valuable than osi, and tuck is as well. And dbrick did over power osi on the play he got hurt.

Westhoff is the cherry on this year’s sundae.
-
Just watched the video, D’Brick played two hand touch with him. Osi just got stuck in the turf.
-
did you huys here lofa totupu said david harris is the best defensive player in the league i heard it on jets nation
-
Well Mike that was last year. This year without Strahan he was the man on that D. And that D is what will get the G-Men wins this season.
-
To a hardcore Jets fan, this couldn’t be more exciting. Best wishes Mr. Westhoff, can’t wait to see you on the sideline.
-
i have to say if westoff comes back…10 wins is looking easier and easier…come on tangini…bring all 3 phases of the game together…
-
Dak,
What are you doing up at 1:14 on a Monday morning?
I’m still gunning for 11 wins.

o’dea has been contacted by his good freind lovie smith and steive marriuci. marriuci is trying to help o’dea find a job

ok , you cant imagine how happy i am i feel bad for a O’ Dea but i want washington to make the probowl this year and nugent to look better than a solid guy , i mean come on he was drafted in the 2nd Rd he has to be more than solid and graham well he just needs to be solid but i sya we should still keep O’ Dea for a while after all he does get to claim hester on his resume
