When asked about his two sacks of Eli Manning …
“The only thing I was thinking was, don’t let him get out of it once I caught him. A lot of credit goes to the defensive backs and the linebackers for giving me time back there. It wasn’t just me. The guys did a great job up the middle. It was just a little bit of me and a lot of everyone else. “

Bas.sett:
The “trade” you know refers to Mr. Farve. -
Being at the game last night, I have several observations:
1. Brett Favre looks great. His pass to Cotchery for TD was classic. He looked left and threw right. I haven’t seen that in a JETS QB since Namath.
2. The O Line provided excellent pass protection against the Giants vaunted D.
3. The run game is sorry. And the O Line penalties were really annoying. 10 motion, etc penalties? Give me a break.
4. I think Dwight Lowery will be starting CB. I think he was ahead of Miller before Miller’s injury.
5. The D was awesome. 8 sacks against the Giants? And Pace looks like a great pick up. Gholston on the otherhand, continues to be a bust.
6. And special teams need a respirator! And Quick!!! -
Ed,
Great post, and thanks for the “birds” eye view, but do you really think, without ever playing a real NFL game yet, we should be using the word “bust”? I mean, come on, the guy is learning a new system (3-4) and a new position (LB vs DE) shouldn’t we let him have the preseason and even a full season before we say “bust”?
By NFL standards a player is gived three years before he is given that label, VG hasn’t even finished his first preseason. I’m sure once the season starts the coaching staff will have a package in place for VG that will allow him to make plays.

pace has got to go to the probowl
-
VG should have a rookie year like John Abrahams. Just rush the passer and keep getting better. We should have expected him to be playing this way. All of the reports said he was raw and would need time to develope and that’s exactly what we are noticing.
Editor, If you judge him right now I’d say he is a bust. But given the avg 2-3 year learning curve for players I’d say he’s doing ok. I will give him one thing… VG can bull rush!
-
The true definition of ” a NY minute ” totally applies here. Lets give VG time to learn 75% of his new position (backfield) before we get on his case. HE WILL DOMINATE !!!
-
our defense looked really good last night…calling VG a busted is really ignorant…his slow start was expected but yet there are those who call him a bust…why, its only the 3rd pre-season game…plus he is behind every1 else becuz of that stupid college rule…and he’s learning a new position…when it all clicks you will be demanding he goes to the probowl…becuz the guy is gonna be a total beast for us…just my thoughts…
-
dakar I agree I can’t tell you how many stupid people on this blog and others are declaring Vernon a bust without seeing him play a full year or two. Yeh he’s not destroying people right now, but he’s not playing USC( University of Southern Conneticut) either give him time it was a teriffic pick.
-
I still stand behind it was a better pick than McFadden or Ryan. Even though neither fell.
-
Hey leave my alma mater out of this!!! LOL…It’s Southern Connecticut State University however (SCSU not USC…lol)…You may remember it as the home of Scott Meseareau.
Anyway, too soon to tell anything on Gholston (good or bad) at this point.
-
So he lost containment on one play! The next he fought of the block and strung the play out. He’ll be fine.
-
Wow. This was a blog about Mr. Pace and everybody got real pissed about that moronic statement on Gholston. I’m with you all. Gholston will be just fine. He is learning.
As for Pace, I’m loving this guy. Great performance against the Gints. They thought they would dominate the pass rush and they got “OutPaced”. His spin move was awesome. I saw him do it in practice and, to see it in a real game, it was a thing of beauty. What is also nice is his giving credit to his teammates. “Team” is what it is all about. I might have to buy a Pace jersey.
It was nice to see Kris Jenkins do some damage.
D Lowery looks like the real deal. He looks like he knows how to play the game. For a rookie to show such poise — I can imagine him in two or three years.
-
To be honest, I loved all the sacks, especially from Calvin Pace. But I was surprised that Eric “Stealth” Mangini tipped off his defensive playbook as much as he did…This team looked like the Eagles with all the blitzing going on! Don’t get me wrong. i loved it!! But I was surprised to see so much of it in a pre-season game when teams like to be vanilla in their game plans.
Go Jets!
-
Somewhere I read that those came out of the base package!
-
Pace is on pace to have a pro bowl year.

Bassett:
My prediction still stands. The Jets will come close or possibly break our team sack record. As our sacks goe so does the team. I originally posted a 10-6 record and the playoffs before the trade. Lets see.
