Here’s the announcement, verbatim from the Jets Public Relations staff after the jump. Upper Bowl ticketholders … you’ve been spared. If you are a season ticket holder or on the wait list, and feel comfortable doing so, please make sure to identify yourself as such in the comments …
August 26, 2008 – The New Jets Stadium seating plan will include no personal seat licenses (PSLs) for all 27,000 seats in the upper bowl, an auction for 2,000 seats in the new Coaches Club behind the Jets bench and the option for all PSL owners to finance their purchase over five years. The announcement was made by Jets Chairman and CEO Robert Wood Johnson IV.
The New Jets Stadium is scheduled to open for the 2010 season.
“Our goal with the New Jets Stadium is to create the best home field in football and provide a range of seating options,” Johnson said. “We listened to our fans in designing this plan. That is why we decided to have no PSLs in the entire Upper Bowl – including those on the 50-yard line. And to ensure that our long-standing season ticket holders join us in the new building, they will always be the first in line when seats go on sale.”
The Jets have also developed an optional five-year financing plan. After a 20% deposit due upon purchase, PSL owners may pay in installments over five years. Seats in the lower bowl and mezzanine end zones will have PSLs that range from $4,000 to $20,000. With the exception of the Coaches Club, PSLs in the other three club areas will range from $5,000 to $25,000.
Aside from the auction, the sale of seats in the new stadium will use a priority system based first on seniority, according to Jets box office records, and then on seat location. Waitlist members will have the opportunity to purchase seats after season tickets holders. Depending on availability, season ticket holders will be able to upgrade to a Club-Member PSL, a PSL in the lower bowl or mezzanine end zone or purchase a seat that requires no PSL in the best available location.
The Coaches Club PSL auction will be conducted in the Fall of 2008 with the Club Member PSLs to follow during the winter. The remainder of the seats, including the seats with no PSLs, will be available in the Spring of 2009.
Details about the team’s seating and pricing plans will be made available at www.newjetsstadium.com as they are finalized.

PSL’s still suck but I am happy to hear they arent half as bad as the Giants plan and with a 5 year option for financing I will be able to afford them
-
Kudos to them for bending over to public opinion! Clearly, they wouldn’t have done the non-PSL thing for the upper bowl if people weren’t livid about it.
Bassett and TJB did their job in this regard, as did the majority of NY media outlets! So kudos to TJB!
-
I guess I’ll keep my “cheap” seats.
-
I had season tix about 7 years back and gave them up because I moved out of the country for a few years. Since I’ve been back, I just get them from scalpers at the games. “Scalpers” is actually the wrong word – I don’t buy from scumbags, only from ticket holders wqith extras that they want to unload.
I’ve never had a problem and never paid more than face value. I thought about getting season tix again, but they wanted to charge me just to be on the waiting list! When they started talking about PSLs, I decided: No Fu****g Way! It is ridiculous and the fact that you can pay it off over 5 years just makes you a 5 year sucker. My guess is that within 5 years, the upper bowl will no longer be free. We should fans have to pay for a new stadium when the team and the league both rake in huge profits?
-
From what i can tell, they’re actually charging more for some lower level seats than the Giants did.
-
should read “Why should fans…”
-
you know how you are gona know where are the band wagon fans are , they will all be in the lower bolw with the exception on helmet Ed well what do i care i dont even go to the jets games so this whole PSL thing is not gonna effect me
-
they haven’t shared how much face value of actual tickets will rise, so there will be some added financial burden for upper bowl, just not psl.
-
I have Upper seats. HOw much more are they going to charge us per ticket though? That’s my concern now.
Also reading between the lines could someone in the lower level with better seniority than me bump me out of my seats?
Other than that, thanks to Woody for listening a bit. Sucks tho for those in the mex and lower levels.
-
This is ridiculous. My father has 10 season tickets. 2 upstairs and 8 downstairs. His original four seats dates back to when the Jets were the Titans. He owns the remaining six for over 25 years. To purchase the PSLs for the remaining seats he will have to shell out $80,000.
What a pathetic organization. 1 Superbowl and 40 years of misery for $80,000. Thanks for the Return on the Investment of our loyalty and dedication while following the organization since its inception.
This PSL nonsense is LAUGHABLE just like this organization has been since Broadway Joe.
Must have been a tough year for the Johnson’s.
Where was he when we were sitting in the pouring rain, freezing, watching Leahy miss 25 yard field goals and losing to the Colts 6-3?
My father is 71, has supported this team year in and year out since they were the Titans, spent his hard earned money on season tickets and vowed to keep them in the family. With this announcement he has vowed to boycott the Jets.

to see the prices for all seats in the new stadium. -
Monopolies and free-markets (unregulated by government) don’t mix well. More often than not the results are ugly.
To Editor’s commentary:
Under such an environment, where sports are dominated by unregulated monopolistic business, I do not think that the objective is the product on the field, the team, the game, or the fans, but rather exploitation itself. Sure Jets Fans did not need a new stadium..but Woody did. -
the new website’s faq answers many queries, including how friends seeking to sit together will get lowest common denominator treatment.
-
Hate to say this perrenial, but i’m not going to break down and cry cause your dad can’t have 10 seats! Leave some for the rest of us on the waiting list!
-
Nick….we know Tanny is you daddy.
-
Yes, that is why i love him so……
-
Yes I know, some victims after years of abuse confuse it with love.
-
Nick,
Not asking for your tears or sympathy. Just want to emphasize how terrible PSLs are. Those ten tickets are in my father’s name and are used by my family. Same as any other season ticket holder whose cousins, brothers, friends have season tickets through a single account holder. We have been paying for these tickets for more than 40 years. Sorry if I am disgraced that this is how an organization we have supported for so long treats its fans. Leave some for the rest of you? Should I be apologetic that you dont have tickets because my family has them and has been paying for them and going to all of the games for all of these years?Im sure you will have the chance to get them now. Hopefully you have the 25k to cough up.
-
Perrenial……common man Woody is willing to lend you the money at 2.75% above prime.
-
Nikolas -
On a serious note. What exactly is your beef with the FO? I can understand disagrement with personal moves, but, other then parcells, this is the only GM we have had that really is going for it. Yet you dislike and distrust there every move. What does this stem from?
-
At least the long-term season ticket holders will be able to skirt the PSL. In today’s time there was an article on the new stadiums in New York and fans’ complaints. The interviewed a Giants’ season ticket holder since 1946 who was being charged $10,000 a seat.
-
This is my first year as a season ticket holder and I am THRILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

woody has screwed a lot of people today. how he lives with himself is beyond me. the guys must be worth a billion dollars growing up with a gold spoon in his mouth….. I will never buy johnson and Johnson products ever again. And whats with the priority seating crap……I have seats in the 7th row on the 20 and now I will be moved to another section wherever…..total BS ….. Jet fans got screwed today bigtime…..the upper deck is free…….great PR move…..what about everybody else morons. I HATE WOODY ……Lose the jets cap.
marty
-
Not as bad as I thought, sounds like a good deal although hardcore fans are now officially priced out of the good seats.
-
Mike,
you should be thrilled. It is always great news when you find out that you get to pay 10 or 20 times more for the right to something than getting it for free. (Unless your seats are in the upper section)I wish they would have started PSLs years ago. I love dishing out huges sums of money to see a mostly bad act.
Glad for you as a Jets fan that you finally got season tickets but (unless you are sitting in the uppers) there is no logical reason to be happy about PSLs unless their creation has allowed you to get season tickets.
-
You short-term season ticket holders shouldn’t be too thrilled. The long-termers get first dibs on the free seats.
“The sale of seats in the new stadium will use a priority system based first on seniority, according to Jets box office records, then on seat location.”
-
Not happy about the PSL at all and the fact that I will most likely be priced out of my current seats but glad to see that they are being more reasonable than the giants and offered a 5 year payment plan as opposed to, I think, 18 months.
-
Nick… I have written extensively about this FO. I was willing to give them all the time of the world to build a TEAM and I have praised them when they have done good things. I respect people who stand for something even if I disagree with them, but I do not tolerate and I do not forgive dishonesty and hypocrisy.
This whole Favre thing was and is a charade, a pretense to sell the PSLs and exploit the Jets Fans.
They hope and pray that luck will be on their side, that Favre may have another great year and thus can diguise their real motivation. They cannot disguise it from me, and I do not think they will be lucky either.
-
I am thrilled b/c i am in the upper bowl, but what if people in the lower sections dont want to pay the PSL and decide to move up there, do you think I will get bumped? This is my first year as a season tix holder so im pretty low on the seniority list!!!
-
what is the point of paying for these seat licenses if it means you still have to purchase the tickets to attend?
so after i pay my 20,000 for my lower mezz seats i still have to pay season ticket prices every year? how in the hell does that make any sense.. it looks like im no longer a jets fan thanks for screwing me out of a future of memories of taking my kids to football games
-
Mike,
I am not sure how it will work out but friends of mine have spoken to the box office today and said that they were very helpful You should give them a call.It would seem it may be the case that people with less seniority would get displaced for those fans with seniority who do not purchase the PSLs. However, they should have charged PSLs across the board because that would have lead to some of the upper season ticket holders to forfeit their seats thereby giving more options for the season ticket holders with seniority while at the same time possibly avoiding having to just kick someone like you out of your seats.
If you do contact the box office and get any further information, please share it with us.
-
The PSLs may violate anti-trust laws. I think the Jets fans should Contact their congressman and ask for a congressional inquiry into the issue.
No one has raised this issue, but this is what will happen slowly and under the radar in all sports. -
I am a longtime season ticket holder in the mezzanine. I assume many current ticket holders will try to move to the upper deck, which we hold only 27,000.
Someone here said they can pay over 5 yrs. so they will go for the PSL. Be aware that aside from financing the PSL the game ticket prices will more than double. That Hi-Def wide screen in my living room is looking pretty good. And parking in my driveway is free. -
Since there are SOME seats without PSL’s, its not THAT bad. Still a rip-off of the older fans. In my opinion, if someone has held season tickets for more
than 25 years, they shouldnt have to pay PSL. -
Nikolas -
I’m not unmoved by your arguement. I’m sure that Woody is on board with this Farve expermint for the PR value. I just don’t believe that Tangini is in it for the same reasons. Do you leave out no possibility that this is both a publicity stunt AND an excelent football decesion?
-
Christmas in August! Take that Giant fans!
Have been an upper decker since 68 when sat in the next to last row at Shea (never been colder since those years and I was very young in those years))Sitting now on 50 yard line on the sunny side will be even warmer with this wonderful news and
Brettt the Jet slingin passes right by me on the way to end zone. Thanks Woody!.
-
Hey, I love football, and the Jets, and, yes, the Flag Girls, but it’s nauseating to see a licensed monopoly (the NFL) rip off ticket holders in publicly-financed stadiums. Why not raffle off tickets every week for a fixed price? Pro teams make a big fuss about how they pay their “share” of new stadiums, but don’t kid yourself; it’s a racket called, “We’re moving to Shreveport unless youse guys on the city council come across with a new stadium and better ticket prices.” End the anti-trust exemption that major sports enjoy (indirectly or directly), and then there will be 70 NFL teams and prices will decline accordingly. What happened to supply and demand, and letting the market rule? Gag me with a silver spoon.
-
“Upper Bowl ticketholders … you’ve been spared.”
Well, those who choose to buy tickets in the upper bowl are spared. But where you sit now does not determine where you will sit in the new stadium. Those who’ve had their season tickets the longest will be able to choose their seats first. (I wonder whether PSL or non-PSL tickets will sell out first.)
I’m the daughter of a season ticket holder – we’ve had seats since the move to Giants Stadium. It’s frustrating because we were able to eventually get great seats in the lower tier in Giants Stadium just by virtue of being a season ticket holder for so long. Now we have to decide whether it’s worth paying $5-$25k per seat to continue sitting in the lower tier for the future. You also have to wonder, if you choose to sit in the upper bowl and later want to upgrade, how much more than the original PSL price will licenses be going for on the open market? (Or will we be the Same Old Jets and possibly be able to get those licenses for below original price? I hope not.)
Generally though, I’m glad to see that they left part of the stadium PSL-free. It also means, I assume, that there is room in the future for fans to continue to get in off the waiting list. If the entire stadium were PSL (and the current plan calls for PSLs to entitle you to sell your license at your discretion, I believe), it would seem that the only way to get season tickets after the initial purchase would be to buy them on the open market from existing ticket holders.
Regardless of PSLs, planned ticket prices are crazy. See http://www.newjetsstadium.com/seating_chart.php. $80 lower tier seat prices are almost doubling, and it ‘ll cost $95-$125 to sit in the upper tier. We already knew that football tickets were becoming out of reach for the average American earner, but it’s still sad to see it happen, especially with a team for whom ability to resell your tickets isn’t always so great. To get decent money for your $140 seats in November or December when you can’t attend, we’re going to need a lot more wins that what we’re used to.
-
PUBOP — Nice to see Pat Leahy take some shrapnel — One day he will be nominated for TJB Hall of Fame –
-
Johnny, let’s be fair. After he left Shea, Pat Leahy was pretty good. He’s listed as 74th on the all time list in FG%. Check it out, there are some pretty big names behind him. Most of the guys in the top of the list are either still playing are played very recently. Much better conditions to kick in, domes, astro turf, etc. BTW, Mike Nugent is # 8.
-
It is going to be surreal for those fans who have sat near the front for 25 years choose the non-PSL seats and those on the waiting list who now get tickets (like Mike above) get forced to pay ridiculous PSL money to finally get their tickets.
And I never thought about the whole constitutionality of the PSL. It depends where the money actually goes. Constitution doesn’t prevent private individuals from charging and looting, but if the state gets an iota of the money, there may be something there. I think the monopoly thing might be a solid argument. Possible competition for fans in this area comes from….Buffalo?
Anyway, if I am the upper level ticket holders now, I would not be too excited yet because I wouldn’t be surprised if the senior ticket holders make their way up there.
-
I think the Jets have made a mistake , they should have waited for the official PSL announcement.
The most appropriate day would be Sept.8, the day when all the Jets fans would be in a more receptive and excited mental state. -
woody, you suck …… where is leon hess?
leon would never let this happen … back in 95, tickets were 25 bucks and you didn’t have to buy preseasons……because leon had enough money.
Woody the A**hole, however has never worked a day in his life and doesn’t know what a working man does for a living….what a scu*bag.
marty
-
Sounds like the Jets management has come up with a way to make more money then the Giants (see auction) and put the blame for people getting bumped out of their upper level seats on the old time ( I got 25 years) fans. Nice marketing——Woody knows how to put a band-aid on it.
-
Although I wonder how high 25 years puts you on the priorty list.
-
Belicheat did not want to play for Woody, Parcells did not want to play for Woody, Groh did not want to play for Woody, even Edwards hated Woody….
-
And look we even get fireman ed back on the same day PSL’s are announced. We are dealing with a marketing machine.
-
Call your congresman Jets fans!!!!
-
15K a seat.. that is what it will cost me to keep my seats. This is ridiculous absolutely ridiculous. If anyone knows what my options are for still keeping seats at a lower price, as in if I dont take these seats please let me know.. much appreciated.
-
Eric, It looks to me like no one keeps their seats. It is all up for grabs and you are going to be able to buy a PSL or Non-PSL based on senioriy (length of time you have owned the seats). When a section you want comes up for sale as a season ticket holder you can request to buy a ticket(s). If there are season ticket holders with more seniority than you also want those seats they will get them before you. Eventually there will be a scramble for the non-PSL seats which again will be given out on a basis of seniority. If your seniority is in the top 27,000 you should be able to get a non-PSL seat. At least that is how I think it is going to work. Seems like the odd men out will be recent season ticket purchasers in the upper deck who don’t want to buy a PSL seat. If my thinking is totally out of wack—somebody else can chime in.
-
We currently have 4 tickets in what looks like the 10 grand section. This year we have owned the seats for 27 years—I’m thinking that the seniority associated with 27 years of ownership should be pretty good. But I am wondering if they will tell us what our priority number is so that we can make the best decision. Because 40 grand just it doing for us.
-
Well said, Marty!
-
Thank you Woody.
I appreciate you finally pricing all the human trash out of my section. These PSL’s will thankfully move the escaped inmates to the upper deck and out of the ball park and replace them with people who have paid well to actually watch the game.
Coming to a Jets game for the sole purpose of drinking then deficating on each other is a thing of the past.
-
Walt ……if you say that the people who don’t want to pay or cannot afford to pay for Woody’s PSLs are the drunks who deficate on each other, then you must be a miserable little man who anyway does not deserve any better.
-
It’s a sad day for many jet fans. I am going from section 110 to my couch. Then again with all that money I save I can go buy a 52 inch tv and have a few killer vacations.
Woody Sucks, 4-12 for 25,000 are you kidding
Lets see if Woody walks the parking lots this year. -
Sadly, all sports are going very corporate, with owners and the league forgetting what makes the league special in the first place…passionate fans that actually care and want to go to these games – even when the team stinks. And Jets fans know what that is like. Let’s see how Woody and players like it when the sounds of silence echo after a touchdown because no one is there.
And not for nothing, as much as I cannot stand the Pats and their owner, he was not dumb enough to charge PSLs and their team had just won the Super Bowl when they moved into their new stadium.
-
I got to go to the opening game last season, and it sure was a blast but prices are just too high to justify going more often.
Ive always wanted to be a season ticket holder but that dreams been sort of shot hehe….I would never say I’m no longer a jets fan over something like PSLs but I do think I would rather go the HDTV with hd tivo and nfl ticket route.
Now if they would implement a sort of time-share(or if i knew some season ticket holders >.<), i wouldnt mind sharing the cost of tickets and PSL between people so that it would be affordable to all of us but until something like that happens i prob wont see another live game since I’m the type that needs to be lower level to enjoy the action
-
I find it mind boggling that people seem to ignore the fact that sports franchises are businesses. While customer loyalty is important, the fact of the matter is that tickets to Jets games have been under-priced for many years. There are millions of Jets fans so upsetting a few thousand season ticket holders is not going to have a big impact on the organization. The new prices seem quite high to me but if that is what the market demands, than I think it is unreasonable to ask the owners to sell tickets for below-market value. If you are Woody and people are willing to pay $200M collectively for PSL’s, can anyone expect him to pass up that opportunity for the sake of long-time fans?
Further, in terms of the PSL’s, let’s not forget that theoretically, the PSL is an investment as it can be later sold potentially at a profit. While many existing ticketholders likely can’t afford the PSL’s, it is not like this money goes down the toilet. I actually think ticket prices are so high that it is possible the PSL’s in a few years will actually lose value and could actually become worthless (the value of the PSL’s will impacted by how ticket prices change, and should the Jets raise prices of tickets in upcoming years dramatically, the PSL’s actually could become worthless), but this is an argument for another day.
As much as we like to fool ourselves, sports franchises are businesses and their owners are certainly entitled to maximize their profits. It would be nice of Woody to charge less for tickets and eliminate PSL’s to reward loyal fans, but as we all know, profits take precedence.
As an aside, at least Jets fans won’t have to pay $125 per game for decent tickets to a Mets game (or around $10,000 per ticket per season). If you think football tickets are overpriced, go check-out the ticket costs for the Mets and Yankees.
-
Johny Mitchell Fan…..you are totally confused my man!
You have no idea about demand, supply, market structures, “rights’ of exploitation, unfair business practices or investments for that mater.
The fact that this is a football blog does not imply that the people here are stupid.
Take your case and naive arguments somewhere else, this site operates in higher frequencies.
Open an economics text-book and study monopolistic competition to see about Woody’s rights! -
Bent — Don’t forget the missed 24-yard missed field goal attempt against New England which basically cost us the wildcard in 1978 — By the time Pat Leahy missed that chip shot against the Bears in 91 he was already revered as an all time Jet, despite the fact that Walt Michaels came close to replacing him with Nick Lowery in 82 — Collectively that is indicative of what is wrong with the viewpoint of most Jets fans: that they have historically favored familiarity over success — DAMN YOU DON SHULA FOR DENYING US OUR SUPER BOWL XVII CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!! –
-
I Johnny Mitchell Fan hit it dead on.
It is supply and demand. The seats will fill up. Unfortuantely its not gonna be long time fans in all of them more like businesses will own them. The demand for the seats even with higher ticket prices have been there for years. While the supply couldn’t go much higher so the price is catching up (i e Woody charging more). It sucks but its business.
Woody is sacrificing loyalty of fans for $$. Because he doesn’t need loyalty to fill seats. just watch. It’s not fair but its big business.
Nikolas let it go. This is no monopoly. I do agree it’s considered monopolistic competition though. What they are doing is not unfair business practice, no one can sue over this.
Just a lot of bitter, frustrated people venting their opinions which is fine they got royally screwed.
The guys wants to make more money. The American dream, you can’t fault him for that. Free market capitalism at its finest.
95% of you would do the same thing if you wanted the money.
-
I don’t support him, but do what most of us Jets fans do watch the game on TV.
-
I am technically a season ticket holder, because I was offered season tickets this year, but was told I could defer them for one year, which is what I did, because I wasn’t expecting it this year, and didn’t have the cash readily available. This means I will be a season ticket holder next year. I want the upper crap seats which is what they always offer first time ticket holders. I was told this by the box office. My big fear, is that older season ticket holders who downgrade will bump me out of those seats, and I will instead be offered better PSLseats which I definitely cant afford. I guess I will just have to hold my breath and hope for the best. Otherwise,I will not be a season ticket holder, after waiting 11 years to get there.
-
The NFL is a monopoly, but a legal one at that. They are protected by the government and as with the other professional sports, these leagues are able to act as a monopoly with a few regulations w/ the government and the government stays away.
For instance, MLB faced heavy pressure with Congress who threatened to address the monopoly issue if MLB did not cooperate with the congressional steroid hearings.
-
Johnny Mitchell Fan
What you forget is the team is a) breaking their lease on a perfectly reasonable, state owned stadium that was paid for with tax payer money; b) is building the new stadium on public land with the taxpayer ponying up the dough for a new train line; c) the taxpayer footed the bill for their new Florham Park, NJ training facility.
The NFL is not a typical business and the State of New Jersey has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the New York Jets. For that Woody Johnson owes something back to the fan and the taxpayer.
-
Vbsienna24……. You are lucky that this is BBCs site, because If it was up me I would be charging you a hefty pollution fee.
-
I think that only Baseball is a protected monopoly—I might be wrong but I don’t think is has ever been extended to other sports.
-
You guys did not read the fine print. Seats are assigned based on the seniority of the season ticket holder so if someone in the lowers wants a no PSL seat they can take yours if they have greater seniority.
-
lol hate me because i’m right.
-
vbsiena24
Unless you are in the top 1% of income you are dead wrong. You’re just following the Greenspan BS. There is no such a thing as free market capitolism. At least for the middle class it is not free. Wal Mart is getting tax breaks while the mom and pop bussinesses of America are dying. Donald Trump got 67 million dollars of tax money last year.
-
Vbsiena24….. I do not hate you.. I know sometimes I am a lit bit harsh with my arguments but I was joking man. You take things too seriously.
-
There are a lot of people on here confused about the nature of anti-trust laws. Ant-trust laws are designed to “prohibit agreements or practices that restrict free trading and competition between business entities.”
Anti-trust laws are not designed to limit prices for those who wish to be entertained by live sporting events.
PSL’s are simply unrestrained, free-market capitalism at work. But, of course, there are far more significant areas in which the general legitimacy of unregulated capitalism could be critiqued.
PSL’s are the result of an economic arms race between NFL Owners, Players, Network Bosses and Advertisers and the Fans are simply collateral damage.
-
It all comes down to priorities. A $5k license over 5 years is $100 per month (incl. interest). That’s giving up one dinner out a month., or downgrading from a Ford to a KIA. I’ll make the sacrifice……..
-
From ESPN:
“A New Jersey lawmaker is urging the New York Giants to rethink their plan to sell personal seat licenses for every seat in the new football stadium at the Meadowlands.
Assemblyman Anthony Chiappone is sponsoring legislation that would ban the sale of seat licenses at all sports facilities in the state.”
At least some legistators are doing their Job.
-
Props to Chiappone. But I am dubious he will have much success. We live in a society in which developers, construction conglomerates and banks have followed a similar formula to price basic housing out of the reach average New Yorkers, pushing them to the fringe and replacing them with those who pay $5000 rent for a one-bedroom on corporate subsidies. The football stadium is simply a microcosm of the city.
If government has failed to temper the impact of corporate avarice in areas that really matter, does anyone truly think it will charge in on a white horse to rescue citizens from overpriced entertainment?
-
Subwayfare….
Very good points…but I do support and like to fight for what is right and just.
Similar to the football game, I have learned that we shouldn’t be afraid to lose a battle, becuase if we are then can never taste victory. That is why we play the game. -
Folks, I do not see how Woody gets even close to selling out the PSL’s. He has jumped the shark! Everyone forgets that we are about to witness something very unique in NY come 2010. PSL’s for the Jets, Giants, Yankees and Mets. There is not enough personal or corporate wealth to fill all 4 stadiums with folks who are willing AND able to pay for the PSL’s AND the ticket prices. Good Luck. I am going to sit back and see what happens. I sure as hell cannot afford the $20,000 seat licenses for my current tickets in section 115. It just might be time to buy a new HDTV!?
-
I’ve been a season ticket holder for 30 years. Had a lot of great times – 1982 and 1998 stick out in my head. We have seen mayyyyybeeee what: 6 playoff games in all those years!!!
WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!! SEAT LICENSES!!!!! TO SEE THE JETS!!!!! NO WAY!!!!!
You want to see the Jets, go scalp your way in. Better yet check out stub hub or some other ticket service. For a game or two a year – plan a nice tailgate party. And if you are into it go to an away game in another city….spend a weekend…have fun. You will be way ahead of the game.
You can’t tell me that the football experience is going to be so great in East Rutherford to rationalize spending all this money! Even if you have the money, what’s your threshold of pain when it comes to eating your tickets – which you know that you are going to do – $1,000 per game…$1,500 per game….This is not quality or fun.
TIME TO GET OFF THE BUS!!! -
WHAT JETS EXECUTIVES DON’T WANT YOU TO HEAR:
Well, the sale was a total and complete failure for the Jets. Supposedly, they needed to stop the auction after just 620 PSLs were sold because prices were headed quickly toward the minimum $5,000 per seat for the “best experience money can buy.”
Remember the Raiders’ attempt at PSLs? Prices dropped so quickly that they reportedly needed to abandon the entire PSL process midstream. In the end, all of those people who bought the first PSLs were out of luck and were simply stuck with worthless pieces of paper.Word on the street was that the Jets were forced to suspend bidding after just a mere 620 seats because prices dropped so rapidly. The 620 seats represent only 31% of the tickets the Jets intended to sell and all 2000 are supposed to be the finest seats fans can buy.
When you take out the likely bogus initial bids ($200,000 each for the first 2 PSls-this was more than likely a business friend of the Johnsons setting an artificially high floor to help Woody out) and the few other high bids for 45 yard line seats in the first row, most of the 620 seats that sold probably only averaged in the range of $17,500.
Forget about the first row. How about the 2nd through 15th rows. Those are not exactly bad seats, and the Jets were finding it hard to sell them at any price.
One person I spoke with told me he saw some of the last of the 620 PSLs sell for a mere $12,700 per seat.
What does this all mean for you and me?
All fans need to do is hang out and hold out and all prices for the entire stadium will drop dramatically.
Knowing this, the Jets will likely hold out from making the other seats available for quite some time. I would not be surprised if they started trying to move some privately along with other quiet perks in order to create an illusory initial PSL sell-through and an artificially high average PSL price prior to opening up the next round of bidding.
The bottom line is relax. When the Jets apparently sold only 31% of the seats they intended to sell, and the last ones were supposedly going for under $13,000 per seat, all you have to do is wait.
Look at it this way. If, on the open and unmanipulated market, the Jets might only receive $5,000-$10,000 for a PSL for Coaches Club Seats, why would I want to pay $25,000 for a PSL in the Great Hall Club on the visitors side of the stadium?
The people in the Coaches Club have already gotten a far superior deal than what Jets season ticket holders are being offered for far worse seats. It is essential to remember this. Season ticket holders are already being penalized for their loyalty.
Just in case you do decide to buy a PSL, please check with your accountant to see if you can mark your PSL to market and take a tax deduction since it will likely be worth far less than what you paid for it, the second after you buy it.
Unless the Jets are prepared to give PSL holders actual ownership interest in the franchise or a percentage of concession sales (which they will never do), the team does not deserve to have its loyal fans and local businesses pay for the new stadium.
More importantly, PSls at these prices simply represent a bad investment and a bad business decision.
Let’s hope the fans and regional business leaders will chill. Don’t believe the hype. The longer we all wait the cheaper PSLs get.

so the upper bowl will be where the real fans are….
but it seems like they are trying to be as “friendly and accomodating” as possible with the PSL’s… the 5 yr installments….
i aint got seasons so i aint gotta deal with it, but if i did and they were good seats…i wouldnt be thrilled
