Chat Show: Jets 27 Eagles 20

Andrew Weiss will be here in due course with a more detailed recap, but for now, all you need to know is that:

* Jesse Chatman was worked hard. He ran for 93 yards, including the go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter (albeit at just over 3 yards per carry) and caught six passes for 87 yards.
* Clemens, Ratliff and Ainge split duties under center with varying levels of success. Ratliff and Ainge threw TD passes to Paul Raymond and David Ball, as the Jets overcame a 13-3 deficit.
* Most of the starters did not play.
* The Jets had no sacks.
* Poteat and Elam helped their cause with a pick each. Cummings led the team in tackles.
* At one stage, the Jets leading tackler was Chansi Stuckey, who saw a lot of time at DB. Could it be that the Jets will enter the season with fewer DBs than usual and were grooming him for emergency duties to enable them to sneak somebody like Clowney or Ainge onto the IR without waiving them first?

Here’s the link to the boxscore etc from NFL.com.

  1. well lets see the game was very much interesting

ainge did well and made his stand for a roster spot

marcus henry is gonna make it hard on tangini come time fo roster cuts

VG still has ways to go

seeing lowery on the sideline must mean lowery is a favorite to start

what also stood out is the penalties , less penalties than last week which is good

overall some players are gonna give mangini something to think about while he decides who to cut and who not ot cut

  2. From my point of view No.2 QB is Ratliff,

Marcus Henry must make the team, not related but I just looked up the roster on the official site, he is the youngest player on the team. Besides, with Stuckey on D we might be keeping all receivers and less DB’s

If K. Clemens trade is out there we must pull the trigger.

  3. Ratliff sure does look better than Clemens, but remember how good Clemens looked last preseason? I think the moral of the story is that you can’t judge how good a guy will be as a starter by how he plays against scrubs.

One think I DON’T like about Clemens: he is always telegraphing where he will throw and he NEVER seems to look off a defender. Farve is always looking one way and then throwing another and Pennington knew how to do that, too - although it was hard to see that last year when he consistently had 2 seconds to throw. Clemens doesn’t seem to get that yet - hopefully he sees it enough from Farve that it becomes part of his game.

  4. Ratliff and Chatman both looked good. Clemens was facing the same Eagles that Ratliff faced today. We don’t need four QBs with Farve. Keep Farve, Ratliff and Ainge.

  5. I guess you could say Clemens had a good game.

    He didn’t fall down.

  6. Clemens played pretty decent. He should have had a TD if it wasn’t for a drop in the endzone.

  7. I still don’t care for Ainge is lack of arm strength will get him killed vs starters in this league. He will never be a good NFL QB I really don’t see him as more than a #3.

  8. VG is still a BIG BUST. Couldn’t get it going vs. backups.

  9. Ainge surprised me though.

  10. Everyone always says Clemens would have had a good game if it wasnt for those dropped catches, WELL WTF?? This is a two way street and if they cant catch his footballs its time to start blaming the person throwing the damn ball.

Clemens sucks I wouldnt mind trading him but Ratliff is probably not NFL ready so we would be screwed if Favre went down.

I like Ratliff to start in 2 years he just looks poised and that play where he escaped the defender and threw the bullet TD really showed me something, reminded me of Tony Homo in Dallas, UDFA coming from a somewhat small school.

And dont think Im just jumping on the bandwagon because I never liked clemens even last preseason I was always a Chad supporter, I think Ratliff has a ton of potential and Clemens never looks poised in the pocket which is not a good sign.

  11. Suspect Ainge and Ratliff make the roster with Clemens the odd man out. Had a nice game, true, but admittedly it was against Filthadelphia’s 2008 version of Gang Green. (Who was the first to come up with that moniker anyway?).

In any event, the acquisition of Favre and final flushing of Pennington has me feeling a little favre-ilicious. Despite being relegated to the sidelines last night, it is definately Brett’s Jets from here on out!

  12. There is a good chance that Favre will only play this year, so trading or cutting KC makes no sense whatsoever. Doing so means that next year your QB’s are Ratliff and Ainge, give me a break. Neither have taken an NFL snap.

KC is and will be a good NFL QB.

  13. Pat d, Electric Ham (and others) are dead-on… Clemens will not make the final cut. You indicate that Clemens ‘…is and will be a good NFL QB” on what basis? What you’ve seen in pre-season? Give ME a break! A project at the position for the Jets or any other roster he may end up on… Destined to be a journeyman QB if there ever was one… We will pick up another project in next years’ draft. Enjoy the ride as you watch the NY Brett’s in 2008 my friend.

Look for my banner this year.

  14. I’m becoming a Marcus Henry Fan…give the kid time. If I see one more bull rush from VG I’m going to lose it. His speed and muscle are outstanding but his hands suck. He needs to go a few rounds with Tony Atlas.
