Breaking News: Shock Jesse Chatman Development; More Cuts Confirmed
Cimini reports again: Jesse Chatman has a four game ban for substance abuse. Hence the confusion.
Meanwhile, he confirms the Poteat, Chatham and Bender cuts and three more names, Jason Pociask, Cam Worrell and Nate Garner. Analysis after the jump:
Jason to the Argonauts?:
The fifth-round selection of Jason Pociask was widely criticized by many, as it seemed unlikely that anyone would draft this statistically unproductive blocking tight end at all, let alone in the middle rounds. However, after missing a year on IR, Pociask showed that he did have some potential as a pass catching threat that could get down the field. Maybe it wasn’t the blocking ability, but the athletic potential which sparked the Jets to reach for him at that time. When the team drafted another TE in the first round and then added a free agent that was to become the most familiar face on the roster for the team’s new QB, Pociask was up against it, but still must have been close to a roster spot because Mangini has been singing his praises. Whether Jason’s future is somewhere like the CFL or he still has a shot in the NFL next year remains to be seen.
Nate a Goner:
Nate Garner was a surprise seventh round pick this year by the Jets. Not expected to be drafted by many draft experts, he must have caught the Jets eye whilst they were evaluating footage of Darren McFadden. He was never likely to earn playing time as a rookie, but with his size and apparent lack of athleticism, I would expect the Jets to have been weighing up whether he has the potential to continue to develop on the practice squad.
Hakuna Matata – It Means No Worrell:
The Jets had a ton of guys in the mix for roster spots in the defensive backfield and Cameron Worrell was by no means one of the biggest names. He didn’t get much of a chance to do much in preseason, so was expected to be one of the guys cut. Would he be a better choice on the taxi squad than Ihedigbo or Burgess (assuming one of them is cut) if the Jets are going to develop a DB?

Probably the reason the Jets reached in drafted Pociask in the 5th is because he is a character guy. Its good to have character guys but to continue reaching for players like this is no way to build a team.
I’m surprised they didn’t keep Nate Garner on the practice squad.
All the cuts have been up on the Jets site for a while now:
RB — Jehuu Caulcrick
TE — Jason Pociask, A.J. Schable
WR — David Ball, Larry Brackins, Paul Raymond
OL — Jacob Bender, Stanley Daniels, Kyle DeVan, Nate Garner, Matt McChesney
DL — Thomas Johnson, Bryan Mattison, Ropati Pitoitua
LB — Blair Phillips, Brandon Renkart
DB — Rudy Burgess, James Ihedigbo, Cameron Worrell (waived/injured)
i didn’t really care for ganer or worrell but i liked pociask…oh well…can keep them all…
have to cut them before putting on practice squad.
yeah, all the cuts have to go through waivers before anything with the practice squad can be fixed. Probably the reason they kept Ainge, didn’t want anyone claiming him off wavers.
