Buzz: Trade Imminent?

by Bent on August 30th, 2008 at 12:16 pm

Latest blog post from Cimini suggests the Jets are about to make a trade. However, it may *not* be for Jesse Chatman, whose agent has reportedly denied that his client has been traded OR released. The cutdown deadline is 4pm ET.

Cimini wonders if the trade could be for Chris Baker or Justin Miller. Meanwhile, an unsubstantiated rumor (apparently from ESPN1050, hat tip Ed(itor)) says that Kellen Clemens has been traded to the Vikings.

UPDATE: Cimini has now done some digging and confirmed that there is no chance of this happening.

We’ll keep you posted…

i dont think tangini ever sleeps

It wouldn’t shock me, especially with the emergence of Ratliff, and the promise of Ainge, but I will hold any reservations until I read it as fact.

hopefully we get a solid corner to match up with revis….although i really like lowery, but he IS a rook.

wow im so pumped im hoping its barrett , even though baker has been a spoiled little brat but he is still worth keeping another year , and miller can be use for something, say if leon gets injured then we have to start using him , and as fas as KC come on MT we can afford his salary , if something happens to favre which i dobt but atleast we will have a back up with starting experience

Clemens to the Vikings make sense. He appears to be the odd man out with the success the others have had. Wouldn’t it be ironic that the QB’s in the pre-season competition hype end up both on different teams?

  6. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

Just to confirm, rumor not fact yet.

The trading of KC to Minn. makes sense for them too, as Jackson has been hobbled all of the preseason. I’d keep Barrett around around for depth, as he can play special teams/safety/CB, as long as he is not starting plus, he just restructured his contract. i would also see what I can get for Miller as he is a free agent at the end of the year as well.

Chatmans agent has announced his player “has not been released nor will he be traded “Jets Confidential reported.

  9. avatar Greenseed says:

That’s funny. Of the two, I would have put money on Chad going to Minnesotta.

Jesse Chatman should not be traded, released or taken off the team in any other way, shape or form possible, he has played to well to have such thing done to him. As for the possiblilty of Baker and Miller; I’m still a little iffy as to whether or not to get rid of Chris Baker but if Dustin Keller can block and “do his thing” then go ahead.

As for Miller, although he has been injury-prone, that would be just plain, flatout stupid. Miller was a Pro-Bowler and I find it funny that every time a former player goes to a new team they seem to get out of their “slump” (Anyone notice Pennington’s preseason?). I would at least keep Justin Miller for now especially if he can do well this year after he gets off the injury list.

As for Kellen Clemens to the Vikings … Okay interesting move but wouldn’t be surprisiing since Ratliff and Ainge performed well, that trade I just might believe.

  11. avatar Bent says:

If the Jets traded Chatman to a team where he’d actually get to play, they might be doing him a favor, because he might not be active very often with the Jets. Remember Miller is a free agent at the end of the year too.

  12. avatar pat d says:

Trade KC, please. Though we won’t get much for him it will open a roster spot.

  13. avatar Bent says:

I don’t believe the KC rumor, but it not impossible that the Jets themselves would have floated such a rumor to see what kind of a reaction it would get, which would at least mean that perhaps trading him is on their minds.

Or it could be 100% baseless, in which case, it tells us nothing!

  14. avatar hank/naples says:

    pat d;

    Totally agree with you.

  15. avatar pat d says:

    hank/naples

It just makes sense. I mean Farve has started in 253 consecitive games. If something does happen then just go with Ratliff.

  16. avatar kc says:

i KNOW im an IDIOT,but im NOT giving up on KELLEN………….YET!

  17. avatar Bent says:

Oi..no name calling! (Even if it’s directed at yourself!) ;o)

  18. avatar mario says:

i hope we trade kc!!! ratliff is our future, not kc!!!

  19. avatar burf says:

I’ve been thinking lately, we might trade KC, Miller or Baker.
I just don’t want us to get another guy over, or about to go over the hill.
Obviously, anything KC, would include some kind of conditional pick.
    Should be interesting…

  20. avatar Paul says:

I think Brett will be our starter for many years to come. Oh lol, I mean Ratliff of course. I’ve liked the Ainge pick from the start, and he seems to have an upside. Ratliff has just impressed all preseason. He looks so comfortable in there. He looks like a QB.

  21. avatar Paul says:

Oh yeah, I guess what I was saying was I’m okay with trading KC.

  22. avatar IRA says:

I would’ve kept Chatman. He would have given them good depth. Miller and Kellen trades would make sense.

  23. avatar pat d says:

I wouldn’t count on it not happening.

  24. avatar Brendan says:

Trading kc would make sense. Ratliff has incredible and Ainge will be a great backup. Jets should trade for linebackers
