Breaking News: Pats Raid the Jets Again
Posted on September 1st, 2008 by Bent
The Superbowl Runners-Up have picked up another of the Jets that were cut on Saturday. This time it’s Jacob Bender.
Scout.com’s Adam Caplan confirmed that the Patriots have agreed to terms with former New York Jets offensive lineman Jacob Bender
Apparently, Bender is likely to be added to their practice squad. The Jets announce their practice squad later today.

I understand that this is all legal and the we (the Jets) do the same thing when given the opportunity. But it’s starting to get stupid. And worst of all, it’s just plain boring. I wish they (and I mean everybody, the Pats, Jets, Dolphins, etc.) would get over it already. Let’s play football and stop these stupid games!!
yeah…um…good luck wit dat…there, Billy…
Jacob Bender(over) sucks!
Finally! The two “capable guards” we had to replace Kendall last year are all gone…
bitter? I’m not bitter…who said I was bitter?! :-)
Can we please pick up Chad Jackson who the Pats cut, he has had a couple of injuries with them but is a really good receiver.
i think Chad Jackson has talent and can help our wr depth plus he is young
Two good points in Cimini’s blog. First, the Jets will make it official: Westhoff is back! Coack Westhoff is simply the best special teams coach in the NFL and getting him back means he’s also healthy enough to patrol the sidelines. Just great news.
Second, former Pat Eugene Wilson was cut by the Bucs. He’d be a solid signing for safety depth.
What does everyone make of the Jets keeping 4 QBs? Trade bait? Proof that KC is not the QB of the future? A strange roster move.
just MORE of beliCHEATS “head games”…….SEE you week2!
well chad jackson is good but we alrerad yhave good WR depth and i dont think jackson would like to be on the practice squad unless we get rid or wright and we should get lynch , our safeties beside rhodes , well lets say im not sure about them and we should get a guy like lync , he wont be superb but atleast he will be solid right
not necessarily that KELLEN isnt the future, but a VERY nice suprise!! and if need be, we CAN trade one!
Does anyone know if Jackson can play special teams? I would expect not because if he could the Patriots would have kept him
the “deal” on jackson is he can NEVER stay HEALTHY…….we DONT need him.
The JEts are keeping 4 QBS becasue Favre may be one and done and they like the other 3. Hopefully one of them distingiushes himself and we have Favres replecement
we need SAFETY/CORNER,O-LINE and D-LINE help/depth.
i think if the J-E-T-S have a GOOD season,FAVRE will come back for ONE more……wishfull thinking on ALL counts!
Just as they sign players that we cut we will do the same. We play the same damn system. Both teams can sign players that can come in and help because they have just spent 6 weeks learning the system. I Like the Eugene Wilson thought. He is a much better option than that old John Lynch.
i agree about signing Eugene Wilson……
If Lynch is on the field with Rhodes then that keeps Rhodes out of the Box… um not a good idea!
KC, I think we’ve got some depth on the DLine with Brown and Murrell on passing downs. O line depth has to be our #1 priority!
Eugene Wilson chose the Bucs over us… Maybe we can get him at a discount now :)
ya Eugene Wilson would be a solid back up spot starter, he is 28 and has a couple good years left and knows Mangini and the system
I’m surprised Eugene Wilson was even cut because I heard he was doing well with the Bucs. I’d rather sign him then Lynch. And we don’t need jackson, because we alreayd have so much depth at WR.
Also do wee need an old slow safety in Lynch? At this point I’d cut Barrett for a glass of water! Bring back Poteat!
The Pats added Titus Adams to their practice squad who I believe we drafted quite some time ago ZZzzz….
The Patriots also just signed Deltha O’Neal
If you look at the Pats roster they definitely do not have the depth they have had in years passed. There secondary looks weak, but I am sure they will try and cover that glaring weakness up with scheme. The Jets do not need Lynch, the Pats just cut him, so his salary will not be guaranteed, thus leaving the door open for him to return to them after week 1. Plus he is old and slow.
I doubt we will keep 4 QBs. Does anyone want KC. I doubt it when Chris Simms, Joey Harrington, Daunte Culpepper and Brooks Bollingger are all availabe. If anyone does want KC they will wait until we cut him.
This is what was on NFL.com
Brady looks healthy at practice Updated 8/31/08
Brady, Tom QB NE pocket pickers
News: Tom Brady was back at practice with the Patriots on Sunday, reports the team’s official website. Brady took part in passing drills with the other quarterbacks and showed no signs of being hindered by his recent foot injury.
this game has gone off long enough , where we sign a patriot player and they sign a jet player it is just getting out of hand , but we should still get Eugine Wilson , not to get info on the pats playbook but to help our depth at the safety spot, oh by the way i changed my mind on lynch he is to Freaking old and he might go back to the pats anyways

Jets announced their practice squad. No real surprises, glad to see Raymond and Calcrick made it.
i like the list…
To nycage and jvsvn and others-
Several thoughts on the Pats-
1-Beli is wired the way he is wired. He is not an honest guy and does these things because somehow to him they are OK. If not illegal they are sleazy, but he doesn’t think so. He no more misunderstood the rule on taping than I am Brett Favre. He will do it until he is gone! Business is full of these guys and they are what they are. You just have to avoid them as best you can.
2-The NFL LOVES Kraft and the Pats. Period- and will allow it to go on forever. They care more about the Giants than the lowly JETS, so much for that.
3-Notice that other than the needy 16-0 Pats only 1-15 Bill picked up a “star” cut of ours and he needs bodies. How come only the Super Bowl runner up “needs” these guys-please.
$-We just have to ignore it and beat them on the field even though Beli will find new ways to get around the rules (like he does with injury reports).
But it really is sad that the NFL lets them get away with all of this.
Hey, we do the same thing, we will pick up one of their players before the patriots game then cut him a week or a few weeks later..
Lets not cry about what Beli does because Mangini does the same thing, and so does everyone else..
There is no mushy kiss kiss in football, its a cut throat sport and a cut throat business.. thats football
By all accounts John Lynch has a handshake agreement with the Patriots…thats fine with me as he is a liability in coverage, much like Roy Williams…I would rather have a Eugene Wilson type guy then John Lynch who is older and slower. With John Lynch your then trying to mask his defencies or only using him in certain situations. Then how much are you really helping in depth if even when he does play he can only play certain downs…Im taking a shot at the are going full fledge on trying to convert Barrett into a full time safety, its been done before with success, and he may turn out to the a decent safety, and as much as we are paying him it would then justify that a bit.
As far as I’m concerned Barrett is already a safety and a sometime/backup CB.
belichick has to do this in order to get whatever he can out of these players…reason being he’s scared to death of losing to mangini and the jets…the little *** feels betrayed by mangini and he’ll do whatever it takes not to lose to him again like he did in 06…we all know that killed him inside and is why he went out and got a.thomas,r.moss,wes welker and d.stallworth last year…which was out of character for him and the paties…just my thoughts…
And if Cinci cut Deltha than how much does he have left really?
RK Cinci also cut Deltha because they need money to extend T.J. housemanzah’s contract
Deltha O’Neal is only so-so and a gambler. I don’t think he’s the Pats’ answer in the secondary. As for the HC of NEP, he’s a POS. Plain and simple.
pat d,
KC is as good or better then Harrington, Simms, and Bollinger, and IMO is actually better. Culpepper is not a good fit for us. You make KC out to be Rick Mirer, he has not had a chance yet, and last season was not a chance, not with the OL we had. It’s 50/50 whether Favre will play next year, we need to have QB’s on the roster.
If we were to get rid of KC (we’re not), he would just go out and be a good QB for someone else ala Jeff Blake.
Sack,
I agree, Eugene Wilson would be a good pickup. I don’t think Lynch has anything left other then playing in the box to stop the run.
THIS IS WHY I DON’T LIKE THE PRESEASON. ALL THE GOOD PLAYS ARE LEFT FOR THE REGULAR SEASON. THESE PLAYS ARE PROBABLY HIDDEN FROM EVERYONE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM SOMEONE BEING PICKES BY ANOTHER TEAM AND AND HAVING THEM SELL THOSE PLAYS. THE PRESEASON GAMES ARE AS BORING AS THE PROBOWL. BUT WITH AVERAGE PLAYERS OF COURSE. IT’S TIME TO PLAY TO WIN THE GAME…
LET’S GET IT STARTED!!!!
jas…..the nfl lets the pats get away with what?? not understanding what u mean in this instance….
ramble914
The only QB that KC is as good as on that list is Bollinger. I just added him as a joke. Besides these QBs Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson will be available next year.
My feeling is that the Pats are on the fade. Their defense is full of past prime guys, they cheat and Brady is a true scum bag…as is their head coach.
I feel their time is up, and they are ready to be challenged. The Giants gave all teams a road map on how to get it done, and we have the guys on defense to mess with shake up, bother and intimidate Brady.
May the football gods be moved by the lack of integrity and character NE is so full of, may the Jets jell as a team and realize the potential they have, and please just let us beat them once this season.
Because if we do we will make the playoffs…and like the Giants last year just maybe its our turn.
Klecko71-
They push every rule far more than any other team-like the injury report. The league could tighten all that but choose not to. I don’t disagree that the whole league pushes but nothing like the Pats. I personally agree that it should just stop and play football. Beli seems to think this all fine-so be it. We cut a guy he picks them up. Fine Let’s just play football. Do you see the Cowboys picking up every Giant that’s cut or visa versa? It is just a bunch of crap.
pat d,
What has Simms or Harrington ever done? They both suck.
So you’ve seen enough of KC to say he’s a bust? 8 games in his second year with a terrible OL, and you want to get rid of him. I bet your one of those who has labeled VG a bust also.

this post from Aug. 29th shows you are half right

Gholston is not a bust he is a rookie playing a new position. The Jets made the right pick. It was a need and if they didn’t the Pats would have taken him. Then what would have all the negative people be saying right now.
Now Clemens is a bust and we can’t waste a roster spot on him with Mr. 253 consecetive games in a row on our team.
I’d like the Patriots to sign and start John Lynch. I’d love to see Favre air it out against an ancient/inexperienced secondary and have Keller going over the middle against an ancient/inexperienced linebacking corps.!
The Pats have always seemed to be capable of making “something out of nothing” with their defenses, but if you look closely, there was always significant talent there (Seymour is excellent, the linebackers were all smart and capable like Bruschi and versatile like Vrabel, and they’ve always had some seriously talented players in the secondary who’ve come and gone over the “mini-dynasty” years).
This is the first time I’ve felt that the talent level isn’t as good on the Pats’ D as it has been over the years. Hopefully I’m not forced to eat my words! The D-Line still has superb talents and the LB corps still is savvy and all, but the D-backfield is either pretty old or pretty raw.
