Jets Throwing A Wrench in the Patriots Secondary?
Andrew Brandt of National Football Post explains that there are a lot of big-name veteran free agents hanging out in the breeze, but that a lot of it has to do with cap control, noting how teams skirt cap rules by not signing high-price veterans until after week one.
Due to the vested veteran rules requiring full payment of salary for veterans on the 53-man roster opening day, most of these names will not be signed this week. Maybe next week, but not this week. Some plans may be foiled, however. The Jets may sign John Lynch and accept the one-year guarantee to disrupt the Patriots’ plan to re-sign Lynch after week one.
Are the Patriots trying to get cute with John Lynch only to have the Jets beat them at their own game? It’s possible, but that would imply that Lynch thinks that being on the roster Week One for the Jets is better than being on the Patriots club as of Week Two for the entire season … forest for the trees and all that.
Lynch has snubbed the Jets in their offers twice now in his career, so I’m not sure why he would be so quick to join the Jets if the Patriots have promised to bring him back under the table after Week One.

Or, are the Pats trying to trick the Jets into signing him at full value, knowing he’s lost too much after having him in camp all summer?
The plot thickens.
sub … you just blew my mind.
Forget Lynch, sign Eugene Wilson.
If Lynch turns down a higher salary and a guaranteed one at that for the risk of being cut at any time and getting little, then the lure of the one true Ring is the thing.
All we can hope is that if he spurns us again, that we play well enough to prevent him from getting the ring with the Pats this year.

hi harlan- i didn’t want to say it on the first day back at the job without being sought out with pitchforks and torches … so thanks that you did it and not me!!
:P
Let him sign with the Pats so we can throw over his old ass in week 2.
John Lynch sucks, why do we want him on our team? Let the Pats sign him so we can exploit him in coverage week 2. Anyone whose been watching the NFL the last 3 years should know that Lynch doesnt have it anymore, at this point were better off with Abram Elam.
I don’t think we need Lynch. This is just sabre rattling.
Some say that football isn’t a thinking man’s game. I disagree. The one-upping dynamic between the Jets and Pats proves that football is won using Chess strategy just as much as football x’s and o’s.
man i rather get eugine wilson who i think is in his twenties and will be a good investment for the future and plus he should be familiar wit the pats playbook

We don’t agree on KC but on this I agree with you 100%.
WHAT IF LYNCH WAS PROMISED MONEY UNDER THE TABLE BY THE PATS NOT JUST TO BE SIGNED… MAYBE HE’S HIS OWN PIMP. THE PATS GAVE HIM A PRICE AND IF THE JETS DONT MATCH IT HE WONT PLAY W THE JETS. THE PATS THE MOB OF THE NFL. WHERE’S THE CAMERA WHEN YOU NEED ONE!!!
