Link: O’Connor Still Grinding His Axe

If you’re looking for a feel good story about Favre’s arrival and times with the Packers, Ian O’Connor’s latest on FoxSports is not exactly going to make your day.

Common sense suggests that this isn’t going to work out, that Favre will end up regretting the day he dragged his mangled 38-year-old body out of retirement and into the Jets’ huddle, a place where good intentions go to die.

O’Connor hasn’t warmed to the addition of Favre and that’s fine at least he’s consistent, unlike say … me.  My issue is with the word mangled.  Mangled is a good adjective that doesn’t get enough attention, but we save it to use with talking about Chad Pennington’s throwing shoulder, or an attempted catch by Anthony Becht.  Mangled here smacks of typical sports journalist hyperbole.

  1. Jets fans have understood for years that this team’s skill players were prohibitively handicapped by the lack of a legitimate starting quarterback — Brett Favre understood this — That is why he is here –

  2. man i should smack this guy side ways he is probably upset favre is older than him and can still throw farther than him and is making 12 million a year just to do so , this guy knows nothing about football and he is probably like any other new yorker a giant fan which pisses me off , if the jets win the superbowl i predict this guy to be the first to jump on the bandwagon , but he doesnt know how good cotchery is and obviously didnt vote for kerry to go to a probowl , but when the jets prove this fool wrong i would like to read the next article he writes about the jets

  3. FoxSports is where idiots go to write bad articles.

You are the greatest for posting this and I agree “mangled” is excessive. However following Farves’ hype as close I could from his last “retirement” speech ’till today, I did not read ANY falsehoods or lies written about Farve. The article appears to be accurate and honest. I trully believe the main reason Johnson threw pennington under the bus was a public relations move to sell his PSLs. I know that Farve is capable of giving us 1-2 more wins but I think team integrity and chemistry is more important. I trully believe we ( the team) lost that and the Dolphins gained it. I trully hope Farve can deliver on his expectations or we have lost much more than a couple of games.

  5. Bassett,
What, I get no credit for sending you this link? JK.

I think it’s great that the Jets are javee and second class. I just learned this from the article.

  6. Psh, I’ve gotten posted on FoxSports. It’s not particularly difficult haha. O’Connor is annoying with both the Jets and the Yankees.

  7. hank/naples — Lombardi-willing all this talk of Chad being a legitimate starting NFL quarterback will end on Sunday — Jets with Chad 4-8 wins — Jets with Favre 10-13 wins — Thank you Robert Wood Johnson IV –

  8. ACTUALLY, I was the one who POSTED/WROTE about this VERY SAME article YESTERDAY!!! WHERS THE LOVE!!!???

  9. dont believe me then go look under “JETS ANNOUNCE PRACTICE SQUAD”and read on…was like the FIRST COMMENT!

  10. In the past, most older QB’s who have changed teams and are about to retire, have not lasted very long or had very much success. Therefore, it is not a bold call for O’Connor. I think that Favre might do very well, as our Offense is talented and our Defense can be very good. I say Favre wins the SB in his first year and, if he doesn’t, he sticks around for a year or two, and eventually does so.

  11. let everybody say what they want, when the jets play the cowboys in the superbowl ill be the one with the smile on my face and they will have egg on theirs
