You Stay Classy, Ira Lieberfarb

Right now, ESPN is running a series of articles on devoted fans through the NFL.  While many look like … well … fanatics with their tongues a-wagging and David Putty-esque face paint (not that there’s anything wrong with that), a voice often heard on talk radio, Jets fan Ira Lieberfarb stands in a jersey in front of some of his memorabilia .. in a tasteful, but not in the least over-the-top photo, which more than 2/3s seem to be.

Our thanks from TJB to Ira for representing Jets fans well.  I respect him for forcing radio to talk about the Jets, especially in down years, so even if you disagree with Ira from time to time, just remember to be thankful that we’re not represented by this guy.

  1. What, D. Rose was still out of the country?!

  2. he’s too busy polluting the youth of america’s minds.

  3. someone’s gotta do it!

  4. Ira from Staten Island is an employee of the Jets just like Fireman Ed — He was against benching Chad Pennington last season — He was against getting Brett Favre this season — With a straight face he predicted double digit wins for the Jets in 2007 even after the Pete Kendall debacle — He was also constantly against getting rid of Herm Edwards and getting rid of Terry Bradway — In general, I have no problem with those who are paid shills for a team being such, but at least the Greg Buttles and Bob Wischusens of the world are above board about it –

  5. He kisses up to Randy so often, I skip reading him.

  6. I always assumed there was a special call in number for guys like him, Chazz ’scumbag’ Pomentari and Mike from Montclair. There has to be.

    I need that number.

  7. And Jerome……..can’t forget him.

  8. Ira is nothing like Fireman Ed. Ed is a clown who makes believe he cares about the Jets but only cares about himself and being famous. (agreed with your Fireman Ed story last week) Ira goes to every freakin game, home or away. And while he might always look at the glass half full he is a real fan.

  9. It doesn’t take a paycheck to make me a fan. Its just in my blood.

  10. Drew — He’s a fan who’s an employee of the Jets –

  11. Ira is the most beloved Jets fan. While I may not always agree with him, he knows his stuff. If you listen to him, you will always learn something! Does he have a problem with objectivity. Well, yes. But, no matter what, the guy is supportive of his team and you gotta love that.

  12. Thanks for the kind words. We all are very passionate Jets fans and only wan tthis team to win. GO JETS!!!!!

  13. Ira, I’ve got your back. No one knows the purity of your passion. Inexplicable as it may be to some folks in this age of cynicism–you have an unconditional love for your team. You bleed green.

On the other hand Fireman Ed is all about the other kind of green. He’s a cheap hustler and con man with his tired mug and J-E-T-S act. He shilled for the west side stadium, gotten t-shirt money from Modell’s, asks to be paid for his appearances and thinks he’s a celebrity. It’s all about his ego and his wallet. Bet he doesn’t have to pay for PSLs and will show up whenever he can get the most exposure.

It’s a damn shame that this phony creep is the face of the Jets–and not a guy like Ira, who, if anything, is too much of a Jets fan.

  14. I never met Ira–but I know his voice and now I know what he looks like. He’s too nice a man to be trying to fool us. My heart tells me his love for the Jets is sincere.

  15. Why didn’t they write an article about me?! This is an outrage.

  16. Captain Jet– take Firemen Ed and your hard hats and use your sky miles to buy a one-way ticket and fly away.

  17. Ah, Meany my friend,

You are just jealous because you don’t look as good as me in lycra.

And, even though I got shafted by espn.com, I applaud Ira for his fanhood.
