Over the next few days, we are going to take a quick look at each and every position of starters on this team. Now, we’re talking about the offensive line and will work through the rest of the offense and across the ball.
The sledding was tough in 2007, and that was just as true for Nick Mangold as it was for anyone else. After a great rookie season, the loss of Kendall seemed to affect Nick just like it did Brick. Getting help from Faneca will be key for Nick and it’s clear that Mangold has already learned a lot from the veteran guards on either side of him. Where we fans might have underestimated Mangold learning lessons not from another lineman altogether, but from the humble pie that Kris Jenkins has been serving him on a consistent basis in practice. During the first few practices, Nick was shocked at the sheer physicality of his opponent, but facing that sort of competition day in and out, will be good long term for Mangold. Now as a third year player, he knows more than ever and has more help, so expect to see Mangold’s progress … well … progress.
