Start Me Up: Right Tackle

Over the next few days, we are going to take a quick look at each and every position of starters on this team.  Now, we’re talking about the offensive line and will work through the rest of the offense and across the ball.

For as enthusiastic as people are about the Jets changes, many are wondering about the new Right Tackle Damien Woody.  One thing is for sure, he might not return to Pro Bowl form, but he’s also not going to allow over nine sacks on his side of the ball as Anthony Clement did last year. A versatile lineman, Woody’s low center of gravity and technique gives him an advantage over faster opponents.

I’ve heard some analysts and reporters voice their concern about the Jets line based on how Favre has taken some hits in preaseason.  Although the line is coming together, I wouldn’t blame it all on these guys.  Favre likes to hold the ball, so remember that when you watch the game versus how the ran the offense last year with quick west coast throws.

  1. I’m afraid that while the line has improved, it is lagging behind expectations … BADLY!

D’Brick still isn’t showing a mean streak, which really can’t be learned anyway. Yes, it was known all along that he was a “finesse” tackle, and the hope was that he’d be more like Walter Jones, All-Pro LT for the Seahawks … but he hasn’t even shown a good skill-set for pass-blocking.

Thankfully, he gained some size, but that isn’t really going to help him stop guys who had a more skilled pass-rush set rather than power-rushers.

  2. I think Faneca will be a good role model!
