Week 1 Power Rankings Links
FoxSports — Jets #19 — “Can one man make a difference? Plenty of public service announcements and ads will tell you so this fall during election season but in the NFL, one man can hardly make a Super Bowl team.”
AOL Sports — Jets #25 — “Several excruciatingly close losses last year show that the Jets are probably better than a four-win team. But not that much better.”
Sportsline — Jets #20 – ”So Favre makes this a playoff team? Not quite. That’s what most would think, but I see 8-8. They will regret the Favre trade in a year. You watch.”
ESPN — Jets #16 – ”The O-line appears fantastic, and their defensive additions have made a noticeable difference. If Brett Favre can cope with the big change, look out.”
Sports Illustrated — Jets #15 – ”They’ve gotten older and firmer. They’re putting together something that looks like, well, at least a playoff run. So what makes me nervous about this team? Maybe it’s the volume of money spent, the memory about the hollow way the Redskins tried to buy championships. Maybe I’m tired of being poor. (”Oh, gimme a break,” I hear sotto voce, nearby. Poetic license, sweetie. Cheaper than a dog license).”

I think ESPN nails it. And I have no idea what Prisco and sportsline are talking about. “They will regret the Favre trade in a year. You watch.”
I don’t understand how. Is he really gonna play worse than what Chad could bring us? Even if he is horrible, he was the best available quarterback at the time of the trade.
Financially, Theres no WAY we regret this trade, Brett has already paid his way and then some for Woody.
Oh yes he can play worst than Chad. Chad took us to the playoffs with a lesser team. The least that Favre can do is to repeat it. And don’t be too sure that Favre is better than Chad.
I always respect Dr. Z’s rankings because I know the guy takes the time to actually watch every game and team, and then charts them accordingly. He also gives you pretty sound analysis of why he ranks teams where he does. He puts the effort in.
The rest seem happy to regurgitate what they read in other places and almost never offer any sound reasoning. Lazy, terrible “writing.”
Nikolas are you Coles? or Chad’s mom? You whine like a child. Chad was not the face of this organization;Curtis Martin was. We had one good season without Curtis and it was made by us catching every break. Think about our highlights that year. Cotchery’s catch in the endzone to beat the Pats was amazing and how many games were won on special teams? Chad didn’t even score a point against JAX in 06. If we lose to Miami it wont be because of Chad.
I like the guy, but some of you give too much credit to a guy who couldn’t stay healthy and had a 32-29 record. Who cares about completion percentage when there aren’t touchdowns?
We didn’t drop Chad because we didn’t like him or to win games like Sunday’s. I doubt the line would have been much different if Chad was still wearing Green and White. Chad, for all his good qualties, was never going to win the game for you. We’ve seen that time and time again. He’s a wonderful, character guy who could be expected to not lose for you if you were evenly matched. Unfortunately, in recent years, defenses have adjusted to his style and compensated for his strengths. Too many times, last year, we saw defenses sitting comfortably waiting for Chad to come to them.
Favre was hired because of games where the quarterback needs to win the game. Where you throw your best against their best and one stellar play can make the difference. Favre is there to win the second New England game and to take us deep into the playoffs. If he does that, it’ll all be worth it. If not, it may still have been worth it. We’ve seen Chad’s upside. Sadly, it peaked in 2002 and, if I remember correctly, did not result in a Super Bowl.
Well, Sportsline is an idiot. Look at all the free pub Woody and his PSL proposal have gotten from a trade that, according to Sportsline, will only cost us a #3 pick.
Ironically, I think if we go to the SB and lose, and Favre retires, some might regret the trade. Sportsline would probably think that was worth it as we lose our #1 but except for a more exciting season all we ahve to show for the #1 is our 40th season without a SB.
Morons.

Somehow, both the Jets and Pennington got some respect when he went to the Dolfins. I couldn’t have predicted it!
Andrew Weiss — It peaked in 2002 and it dropped off dramatically in 2004 — Sadly, we would still be stuck with him if not for Ted Thompson –
just in ticket sales alone brett will make the jetts not regret it but i got high hopes for this team this year and i think bretts got the best offense around him that he’s had in many many years
screw the talking heads we know our team and what they have and that they were better then last year ..
only thing i’m worried about on sunday is ..chad knows our D like the back of his hand ..could get ugly
I think a better observation is that our D knows Chad like the back of their hand.
I think Nickolas works for Sportsline. I’ve read that Sportsline quote word for word on the posts made by Nickolas.
Good to see them moving up a bit on some, but still being in the mid-to high 20’s on some blows my mind.
The only on-air personality that has spoken favorably about the Jets this year has been Marshall Faulk. He said he picks them to challenge the Patriots for the division. When pressed, he then said, “I’m picking the Jets. Not sure how Marshall is as a prognosticator, but he sure knows championship football. Let’s hope he’s right.
Some of you guys do not get it. I understand your desire to win, but if you let your desire to obscure reality then it is to your detriment.
The idea the Favre will come in and get you to the SB is only a desire with a miniscule probability to occur. In my estimation, such an event could occur with Chad at the helm as well.
I think I am entitled to my opinion. This is a point which will never be proved or disproved.
But what can be proved or not is whether the Favre move will end up being a good one for the franchise or not! And I do not mean here the business of Woody or the PSLs, I mean the TEAM.
Given what the Jets had to give for a RENTAL, most likely a second round draft pick, ending up with Chad in a division rival and loss of credibility amongst the players..the only way that this move will end up being good is only if they WIN the SB. So who will regret it? Most likely Mangini (the next scapegoat), and the Jets fans. Tannenbaum and Woody will be fine.
And JustGreen Guy….I think you football IQ is suspect..
Again, I’m glad we don’t have a pity case for a QB anymore. He didn’t ask for this, but some fans are like mothers who make excuses for their adult offspring who haven’t moved out quite yet.
‘Oh, poor Chad,’ like we should hold a candlelight vigil for him and all start wearing rubber bracelets that say ‘Poor Chad’ on them.
This attitude is indicative of why we’re regarded like other jinxed sports franchises. His character aside, Chad was telling of the ‘hard luck Jets’ narrative that I hope is now behind us.
QBs are supposed to be leaders with swagger. he was a leader with a limp.
I don’t really want to go back to discussing Chad anymore I’m quite sick of it. I do want to say how much I enjoy the sweet irony of him playing for the rival Dolphins and their fans having the quarterback they were previously so quick to tease and insult. I only wish Jason Taylor was still a Dolphin to truly enjoy the full irony.
FWIW, 6 of the 8 USA Today pundits picked the Jets to be one of the two AFC wild card teams.
Nikolas: “the only way that this move will end up being good is only if they WIN the SB.”
Seriously?
For Brett to be a success its Super Bowl win or bust?
I think YOUR football IQ is suspect.
If we play hard, tough, intelligent football for the majority of the season and are in a position to win games then that will be a success. thats all you can ask for. Chad almost always kept us in games but he consistently failed us late in games. GO back and look how many drives stalled b/c Chad couldn’t throw more than 5 yards on 3rd down. the 2nd pats game last year, it was horrible conditions and we were in that game right up until the end. The problem was, Chad couldn’t get a first down the entire game.
Brett immediately gives us a chance to make things happen when needed. Yes he will throw INT’s, but what is most important is that he may end up throwing more TD’s than INT’s.
His intangibles alone may or may not rub off on our team, but if he leaves after this year, I strongly believe our team will be better with the experience they have endured playing with Brett Favre.
Nik,
I dont think the Jets have to win the superbowl to make this trade “worth it.” When was the last time the Jets made it to the conference championship? I would be please if the Jets could do that. I know we cant prove what Chad would have done but if you want to talk about football IQ, how can you possibly think that Chad could lead this team to the superbowl? His best days are clearly behind him due to all the injuries.
You are already saying the Jets will most likely make the playoffs, I don’t think we could have sit there and said that with Chad.
Loss of credibility with the players? Coles? Who else? are you in the Jets locker room? At least the Jets FO did the respectable thing and let him choose where he wanted to go, but you wouldnt want to give them credit for anything because you have a viewpoint that you stick to. You’re posts sound like a computer designed to say negative things about the FO, no matter what the situation is.
Niko -I love your steadfast loyalty to all things Chad, but your “SB win or bust” theory about Brett is misguided.
So what , if we lose a second or first rounder! This franchise won’t go to heck in a hand-basket. Justa hunch, but I don’t think NE FO or fans are regreting giving up a second rounder for Wes Welker last year just because they did not win the Super Bowl. Your logic is perverse.
No one is talking Super Bowl with this team anyway(except you..and you are saying “win it too”). How could anyone after a 4-12 season?! All we (most of us)are saying is “potentially the playoffs, and then, who knows”…
Question: would you be saying such things (win the SB or else) if this were still August 5th? If yes, then nothing has changed. If no, then you admit that Brett gives the team a better chance than Chad, and I’m guessing you will be giddy like the rest of us(regardless of outcome) the week before the big dance and not moping around saying “this was supposed to be Chad’s team, waa-waa”…
News flash - the FO “credibility” was lost prior to Chad’s departure (see Kendall ,et al). It’s just business, dude! Even Chad sees it for what it is. Are you Coles’ cousin or something? Get over it!!
I can just see you at the podium saying:
‘(sniffle, sniffle)…That’s my quarterback, man…that’s my quarterback!…’
know-what-I-mean-Vern?
You guys want your pie and eat it too.
But I am not surprised, I know it is human nature and my arguments cannot challenge your beliefs. But reality will… and she is around the corner.
Nikolas believe what you want. You have nothing to base it off of and you recently said that Erik Coleman was a significant loss. You just don’t like change.
What happens after Sunday Nik? If we win will you stop acting like a teenage girl who can’t text her bff?
Nik,
You can eat your “too cool for school pie.”
Yes you are different, you have different opinions therefore you are the righteous Jets fan. Congratulations.
Everyone, including me, keeps falling for your argumentative traps.
Erik Coleman… he was number 9 on that list right?
I liked Chad, too. I’ll never forget the hope that i had after the 2002 season that, finally, the Jets had a franchise QB to build around. But, those injuries! The 2003, 2005 and 2007 season were all severely affected by Chad’s injuries. And, his injuries weren’t like Moises Alou injuries, meaning when healthy, he was still productive like he was in 2002 or 2004 before the Buffalo game. Chad lost zip on his ball that made him unable to deliver all of his short passes. He knew where to throw, but his arm would’n't let him complete them.
Nikolas, I appreciate the passion for Chad, but you had to see what we all saw…the deep out was non-existent and the short-out started to be jumped. Thus, Chad’s passes had to be in the box, where the defense put 8-men to stop both the running and passing games. To succeed under such circumstances, Chad had to be perfect. Chad had an amazing, inspirational 2006 campaign, but we all saw significant detioration in 2007. I thought that Chad could regain his 2006 form and the Jets would have a solid season. But, ultimately, Chad would limit what the Jets (or any team) could do because Chad limits the field for the defense and playoff teams have good defenses that take away offensive weapons. The upside with Chad was too limited.
Favre, on the other hand, can hit every pass on the field. His only problem is that he knows he can, so he’s a bit of a gunslinger (so was Namath). Favre just makes things easier for the offense by opening up the whole field. Thus, the ceiling for this team is higher with Favre than with Chad. Will it work out that way? Who knows, but Chad, as much as we all like him, is not a complete QB; Favre is, and in a big way.
i dont understand why people put so much time in trying to predict whats going to happen before the season begins.
there are things like injuires, making it rain, and players coming from nowhere and becoming starts.
as a fan, you need to be positive, esp. after what we went through last year. so to those fans that say brett is going to fail and this and that, please save your remarks to at least after week 1
also, the jets off season was not like what the red skins tried to do and still try to do. they take old players, but never focus on there real problem, getting a solid QB
also the guy from SI put the Minnesota Vikings as his 4th best team in the league. i do understand that there d is solid and they have AP running the ball, but they dont have a QB.
this is just another reason why preseason stuff is just BS.
I mean the jets were a high preseason power ranking last year
I don’t think any of us hates Chad. I was glad the FO gave him a chance to pick his next job instead of holding him hostage. I know what he brings to the table as a QB and with that in mind one day he will be a great coach.
What matters to me most is that I cheer for the JETS. I don’t care who is on the team or who is coaching it. We cheer for them every year until we can start the just end the season chants. I will never wish success to a Dolphin.
JustAgreenGuy
Well said.
I’ve rooted for some crappy teams in the past but root for the Jets I did. If nothing else I gave my friends and family something to laugh at during some of those years. Which I don’t mind. But this is one of those years none of them are laughing.
The first pass attempt by Farve in preseason made it quite apparent that I won’t regret the signing of Farve regardless of what happens.
I’m a feelin’ ya, Niko. I get ya, brutha!
The Jets will one day rue the day that Brett has made! Instead of locust, flooding, and fire & brimstone…it shall be levied upon them in great abundance with an avalanche of …
wait for it…
wait for it…
a second rounder….a small-armed QB departure…and Front Office loss of credibilty.
Ouch! Now that’s gonna leave a mark…
Yea, verily… Can Armageddon be far behind..?
What craziness comes next? Johnny Styne being elected prez of the Pennington fan club?
david i
Marshall Faulk of NFL network is one of the best sports commentators on TV. He is insightful and more often than not what he says turns out to be correct. On the other hand his coworker Rod Woodson seldom gets things right except the most obvious. Before the 2006 season Woodson said the Jets were one of the worst teams in football.
Its great to hear Marshall is picking the jets in the AFC East.
Right on people, we root for the JETS no matter what, at least this year we have something to be optimistic about. I love when all of the “experts” and media types count us out and diss us without even really knowing the team. Who knows what this season will bring, but it will be better than the last and that is more than enough heading in to week 1.
“I’ll never forget the hope that i had after the 2002 season that, finally, the Jets had a franchise QB to build around. ”
Not me. Because I saw Chad’s carriage turn back into a pumpkin against the Raiders when he completed just 21-47 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown, and turned the ball over four times, resulting in 17 Oakland points. I was convinced right then and there that that we’d seen the top of market for CP and nothing has happened since to disprove that.
The problem with the careful, high percentage passer is that later in games and deeper into the playoffs there are no high percentage passes. Everything is challenged and when a guy who’s not naturally aggressive tries to be, he’s not comfortable and disaster ensues. Only works if you have a once in a decade, dominant running game. And even then…
I’m grateful for his commitment, attitude, character and for at least making the Jets respectable for as long as he did, but happy to see Chad as a hold-the-fort-guy in Miami. The best of what he had to offer will be appreciated there.
I’ve yet to hear one rational argument supporting the ‘regret Favre’ theory. Even as a one year “rental” he’ll expand and energize the offense and make it easier for KC or, hopefully, a surging Brett Ratliff to step in. If the team wins 5 games it’s an improvement on what we had.
As for FO “credibility”, while no one will likely speak on record out of respect, I guarantee there are plenty of Jets who feel relieved at CP’s departure. And nothing hurts a FO’s credibility more than asking players to break their asses behind someone who they don’t think is the best available player for the job.
Everyone — Not everyone loved Chad — a solid 20 percent of Jets fans had had it with Chad for years — He smugness — His sense of self-entitlement — His “It is your privilege to cover The New York Jets” — His “I don’t want Tom Brady to take too much of a lead on me in Super Bowl Championships” remark — His refusal to EVER acknowledge that he was EVER responsible for losing games the Jets should have won — Some of you are concerned or fearful that he is now the quarterback of one of our division rivals — To those who have had it with Chad Pennington since he campaigned Herm to send Quincy Carter back to the bench when Chad was still injured in 2004 the fact that he is now with the Dolphins is PERFECT — The Dolphins’ loss is the Jets’ gain — Ted Ginn may develop into a pro bowl wideout — We may never know as there is the real possibility that Chad will lay him out at any time — Those hits add up over time and lead to shortened careers — Chad for the Dolphins is Parcells’ stop-gap crash test dummy to save Chad Henne from getting killed until he is ready to start — Nothing more — On a talented team like the Jets he is an albatross — To paraphrase what John Dean III said to Richard Nixon — “There was a cancer on the Jets and unless that that cancer was cut out the Jets would die” — On August 6th, 2008 that cancer was cut out –
ok so why are we crapping on chad… the guy busted his ass for us for how many years and for a ORGANIZATION that wasn’t taking care of him and trying to file him to the back.. listen i love the fact that bretts here i’ve always admired brett but u can’t sit here and tell me that the players were pissed because chad wasn’t the best ..that dude was their leader u could see it on the field every game ..where moral was impacted was when management started playing games with chad and when they disrupted the lines chemistry by playing games with kendall ..i agree trading him was the other right move but seriously they should have just gave him the extra $mil he wanted even brick was quoted as saying thats what messed him up
i’m glad bretts here but don’t crap on the guy that gave us his heart while he was here and even took MULTIPLE pay cuts for the jets ..that dude was our leader ..now brett is ..have some class
johnny - cancer pertains to a life threatening thing ..like pete kendalls piss poor atitude .. chads removal was more like an infected galbladder not really life threatening but not really the best thing to have either
like i said have some class stop crapping on the guy ..focus on the positive aspect of having brett around and focus the hate on the people that think of the jets as a 4-12 team this year
Everyone — Not everyone loved Chad — a solid 20 percent of Jets fans had had it with Chad for years — He smugness — His sense of self-entitlement — His “It is your privilege to cover The New York Jets” — His “I don’t want Tom Brady to take too much of a lead on me in Super Bowl Championships” remark — His refusal to EVER acknowledge that he was EVER responsible for losing games the Jets should have won —
Some of you say you are concerned or even fearful that he is now the quarterback of one of our division rivals — However, to those who have had it with Chad Pennington since he campaigned Herm to send Quincy Carter back to the bench when Chad was still injured in 2004, the fact that he is now with the Dolphins is PERFECT — The Dolphins’ loss is the Jets’ gain — For example, Ted Ginn may develop into a pro bowl wideout — We may never know, as there is the real possibility that Chad will lay him out at any time and significantly hamper his development — Those hits Chad lays on receivers add up over time and lead to shortened careers — Chad for the Dolphins is Parcells’ stop-gap crash test dummy to save Chad Henne from getting killed until Henne is ready to start — Nothing more — On a talented team like the Jets Chad Pennington is an albatross — To paraphrase what White House Counsel John Dean III said to President Richard Nixon — “There was a cancer on the Jets and unless that that cancer was cut out the Jets would die” — On August 7th, 2008, thank Woody, that cancer was cut out —
FREE AT LAST FREE AT LAST THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST —
Jets 34 Fish 13 –
johnny - wow u are a bitter dude .. i never saw pennigton as smug or self entitled ..more giving then anything ..like a leader ..and the whole i don’t want tom brady to get too much of a lead on me in superbowl wins .. dude i think anyone that didn’t say that even jokingly as the starting QB of the jets might as well not suit up .. if u can find me a link or something i’ll eat crow or whatever but till then just have fun being bitter i’ll remain in the 80% that is an appreciative fan to a guy that did right by the organization even down to taking pay cuts just to stick around or clear space for better weapons to be added
kjgracey — There’s an absolute spring in my step these days — My team has a quarterback and we are absolutely going to kick the crap out of the Dolphins on Sunday –
I don’t know who is worse Nikolas or J. Styne. At least I can understand Nikolas’s conviction and loyalty. The other guy…I’ll leave it alone.
kjgracey,
Well put.
I would say that its more like 95% of the fans who are appreciative of Chad. I wish he never injured his shoulder.
I’ll take an excited Jets fan over someone who thinks D-Rob (even in the 4-3 he wasnt worth the 4th pick) and Erik Coleman are significant losses in an offseason that solidified our trenches. We all have rights to our opinions. Doesn’t mean any of them are right.
I loved Chad, but he took pay cuts because no one would bring in a guy coming off of two shoulder sugeries and to bring his best friend to the team. He did what any of would do protect ourselves and our own.
I want to puke seeing him in a Dolphin’s jersey. Go Jets. Not Ex Jets. I don’t see tears for Hobson.
ramble - thx for the kind words
johnny - ok so the spring is in your step right NOW but what are we gonna do after this season or next when Brett does the retirement dance again ..i mean i hope we grab a top QB prospect next year ..if available ..
gotta thing long term and we all gotta hope tannenbaum has a plan together because i’d love to have brett around for 2-3 or more years but theres gotta be a plan and now .. ratliff’s looked awesome and kellen hasn’t but are those guys the answer ..i love the live for the season atittude though
no matter what stay classy and stop beating that dead horse
kjgracey — No sane Jets fan can get past the delirium of right now — We have a reasonable chance to compete for the Super Bowl — I did not expect that to happen again in my lifetime — Yes, Favre may break every bone in his body on Sunday and it will be Same Old Jets — If that happens, then we lost nothing because we had nothing — But if Favre stays healthy as he has for his entire pro career, then we can beat every team on our schedule and should win 10-13 games and we can reasonably compete for the Super Bowl — It’s not about next year or the year after that — THIS is the year for the New York Football Jets and their fans –
Manginis’ comments about Chad only reinforces my suspicion that Mangini was not for the Favre move. Those who can read between the lines (see the post article)
“I never looked at Chad as having throws that he can and can’t make,” Mangini said. “I think one thing that Chad does is consistently show he can do pretty much anything.”
can tell why Favre came to NY, and it was not football!!!
johnny - really u never expected a superbowl chance to happen in your lifetime ..i expect that out of them every year ..call me optimistic but as a jets AND giants fan i expect beautiful things from both teams and to one day see a NY vs NY meadowlands showdown for the lombardi trophy ..hey i can wish right ..i never expected to see a subway series in my lifetime but always hoped for it ..and guess what ..it HAPPENED .. its all about a positive outlook my friend and having faith no matter who’s at the helm, hell i was hoping for superbowl dreams and wishes when ray lucas and ben graham were under center lmao and those guys sucked way way way worse then chad ..yes there is reality but hey is a fan that starts a season thinking his team sucks really a fan ..well maybe a dolphins fan .. but other then the dolphins and raiders fans ..no they really might not be real fans ..not calling u into question ..just food for thought .. stay positive and positive things happen ..i stayed cheering on eli all season long ..look what happened and every jets game i expected kellen to have a break out game and show us that he got it and it was time .. things happen maybe not all the time the best out come but sometimes the greatness comes around
We shouldn’t care if Favre was brought here just so the team could get discounts on Wrangler jeans. I think Mangini was fine with the QB situation tho. I hope Mangini remembers his old Pats defensive scheme for against Chad that led to a lot of pic 6s.
nikolas - seriously though theres no question farves an upgrade to penny ..he’s got most of everything chads got; leadership, football knowledge by the ton, and the winning atittude but then he has what chad doesn’t and thats a stronger arm .. now if only brett had chad’s accuracy he and ability to read defenses ..why he would be peyton manning lol ..jk seriously brett’s an upgrade and he’s gonna fill seats and i think we’re gonna wreak some things on the way to the top and it will be very sweet ..just wish brett was 6 years younger
Farve has given us hope this year and Ratliff has given me hope beyond that!
Nikolas — Mangini called Chad a quarterbacks coach which is what a lot of Jets fans have been calling him for years –
kjgracey — glad your Giants won — but as a Jets fan and only that, this team has been so bad in so many ways (some honestly never before invented) for so long, that the word “hope” died in the Mud Bowl if not the day we cheaped out on Riggo — So winning enough games to make the playoffs but clearly incapable of beating the good teams in the League has been as unsatisfying as going 3-13 — That is why Chad so infuriated the fans that he did — To those fans he was in the way and there was no foreseeable hope that he would ever leave — Until one day — The glorious day of 8/7/08 — Thank you Robert Wood Johnson IV –
Kjgracey…..I respect your opinion, but I do not share it.
I think that Chad was the best leader and QB for this team. I have said before that Favre’s arm, and qualities will not translate on the field for the obvious reasons.
a. He is a Packer not a Jet!
b. He is 39
c. He will not be able to pick up the offense fast enough
d. He will not be able -for the time period he will be a Jet -to be the leader Chad was.
e. He will require the team to adjust to him. Already the coaches try to adjust to his tendencies and plays.
f. The team psych will be in shambles.
All these reasons counter any upgrade Favre may have talent wise over Chad.
My points have been disregarded by almost everybody in this blog, because they want to argue only on the ground that Favre has more talent than Chad.
I still believe that a TEAM is either more or less than the sum of its parts.
With Chad it was more, while with the more talented Favre is less; and I am convinced that Mangini and the players have the same feeling…but
The sum of the parts with Chad last year led to 1-7 record and he was benched.
The sum of the parts last year was -100 from the time you were supporting the FO and the trade of Kendall!!!
“I never looked at Chad as having throws that he can and can’t make,” Mangini said. “I think one thing that Chad does is consistently show he can do pretty much anything.”
Yeah I can read between the lines. Mangini is saying we need to get rid of this guy.

Hey dude did you forget to take your meds.
kjgracey
Your theory of staying positive and positive things will happen worked half the time. Boy I wonder what would happen if you did nothing.
hey hate all you want i was happy whenever the jets made it to the playoffs ..yes it wasn’t the superbowl but they made it to the post season they couldn’t be pointed at by stupid analyst and said they suck ..because obviously they were winners ..i start every season saying they’re gonna kick ass this year .. and if they start to have problems i don’t whine “oh no we suck again” i figure out where they suck and why .. last year the line was what killed the gets on O and D .. the year before was a playoff year ..year before that chad got hurt and we were stuck with a combo of brooks vinnie and jay ..who all blew goats .. thats what i meant by staying positive ..i don’t whine when i figure out who the problem is thats who i bash and with zeal ..like i said last years problem was the line ..but was it ..no it was management mishandling the kendall nightmare ..and all though kendall was a lil bit of a pain in the ass if they nipped it in the bud earlier there would have never been a chemistry issue which made them suck .. so don’t knock on my positive atittude ,,instead knock off the whining and the classless lack of appreciation of a gave that gave his all and start every season as a fan instead of a cynic
The way some people make it sound, Pete Kendall was solely responsible for Pennington dropping from 10 to 1 wins. If that’s the case, the Dolphins better get a trade with the Redskins going quick.
If losing 12 games last year was the price for swapping PK for Alan Faneca then I now realize I enjoyed last season a lot more than I thought I did.
Pat d…
wow! You smart guy..you read well below the lines!
Nikolas;
I totally agree with your comments on team chemistry. I’m convinced that champions ARE made in the clubhouse( I personally witnessed it w/Gil Hodges in ‘69) that the team lost part of it when the Jets threw Pennington under the BF Bus. From reading the enemy’s blog a can asure you that the Dolphins players are totally united, for the first time in many years, behind Pennington. How that will translate during the season I’ll let Styne tell you all about that.
I can speak for the “20%” or “5%” of Jets fans who wanted Chad off the team. Does that mean I’m not appreciative of what he did for the Jets? I will always be fond of the Chad era as the years go by but that doesn’t mean the Jets shouldn’t have moved on. The fact that he always came back amazed me, but clearly the injuries altered his career! Do you want to just reward players for being tough or for performing? It’s a fine line but I haven’t seen the same smart QB that he once was. I feel like now that hes gone everyone has forgetting the terrible 4th quarters picks hes thrown the last couple of years.
Its time to move forward!
kjgracey
I’m anything but a hater.
To blame last years season on the Pete Kendall situation is a joke.
The key to a successful season is the left guard. I have never heard this arguement before.
Our O line sucked. Chad got injuried. KC sucked. That is why we sucked.
HEY KNUCKLE HEADS
Chad”s injury last year was his ankle. The noodle arm was not the problem last year.
But the Jets D are gonna eat him up on Sunday. His fake moves won’t work on us. What we need to do is stop Ricky Williams.
Nickolas
Every time the Jets let someone go Mangini has such glowing comments.
And your statement that if the Jets don’t go to the Super Bowl then the Farve pick up was a bust - boy you went out on the limb on that one. Considering only 2 out of 32 make it to the Super Bowl.
When Farve made his first completion on his first attempt I was glad he was a Jet. Regardless of what happens next.
By the way Farve made his first completion on his first attempt as a Packer.
The fears about team chemistry are unfounded. The Jets players are behind Farve 100%. As far as the offensive game plan - give me a break. Farve knows more about reading the opposing teams defense than our coaches. Farve in the HALL OF FAME as a JET. That is what I see.
I think FoxSports hasn’t been paying attention. They say can one man make a difference. Umm i think we got many other player like Calvin Pace, Alan Faneca, Kris Jenkins and so on. I have no problems with the other rankings.
